Periods for flat algebraic connections
In previous work, we established a duality between the algebraic de Rham
cohomology of a flat algebraic connection on a smooth quasi-projective surface
over the complex numbers and the rapid decay homology of the dual connection
relying on a conjecture by C. Sabbah, which has been proved recently by T.
Mochizuki for algebraic connections in any dimension. In the present article,
we verify that Mochizuki's results allow to generalize these duality results to
arbitrary dimensions also
Semistable reduction for overconvergent F-isocrystals, III: Local semistable reduction at monomial valuations
We resolve the local semistable reduction problem for overconvergent
F-isocrystals at monomial valuations (Abhyankar valuations of height 1 and
residue transcendence degree 0). We first introduce a higher-dimensional
analogue of the generic radius of convergence for a p-adic differential module,
which obeys a convexity property. We then combine this convexity property with
a form of the p-adic local monodromy theorem for so-called fake annuli.Comment: 36 pages; v3: refereed version; adds appendix with two example
Biochemical and histological study on the effect of levetiracetam on the liver and kidney of pregnant albino rats
Background: Levetiracetam is a broad-spectrum antiseizure agent and one of the most commonly prescribed drugs for epilepsy. The aim of this work was to assess the effect of levetiracetam at its therapeutic range on the liver and kidney of pregnant albino rats.
Materials and methods: Forty pregnant rats were divided equally into two groups (I–II), Rats in the group I were gavaged 1.5 mL/day distilled water in two divided doses throughout pregnancy. Rats in the group II were gavaged 1.5 mL/day distilled water (containing 36 mg levetiracetam) in two divided doses throughout pregnancy. At the end of the experiment, blood samples were taken and the sera were separated and used for biochemical analysis. The kidneys and livers of both groups were excised and used for light and electron microscopic examination.
Results: Treatment with levetiracetam induced undesirable histopathological changes in the liver and kidney of pregnant albino rats. These changes were in the form of distortion of the hepatic architecture, dilatation of the central and the portal veins, widening of the Bowman’s spaces, thickening and disruption of the glomerular basement membrane, fusion and effacement of secondary foot processes, cytoplasmic vacuolation, and swollen mitochondria with loss of their cristae. Such changes were confirmed by alteration of certain biochemical parameters related to the liver and kidney functions.
Conclusions: Levetiracetam induced deleterious effects on the liver and kidney of pregnant albino rats. Further investigations are recommended to clarify the mechanism of levetiracetam toxicity

The Effect of Different Kind of Liquid Smoke Materials on the Quality of Smoke Flavored Catfish (Cryptopterus Bichircis)
The study aimed to observe the effect of different kind of raw materials of liquid smoke on the quality of smoke flavored catfish (Cryptopterus bichircis). The experimental was designed as completely randomized design (CRD). The treatment was soaking catfish into different kind of solution of liquid smoke, namely liquid smoke pyrolyzed from rice husk (A1), oil palm midrib (A2), and coconut shell (A3). The catfish were soaked into the liquid smoke at a concentration of 6% for 60 minutes. Parameters to evaluate the quality of smoke flavored catfish produced were the sensory value of appearance; smell; texture; and taste, proximate composition, the content of total phenol, total acid, and pH values. The results showed that the different kind of smoke source was indicating significant effect on aroma, but not on appearance, flavor, and texture of the smoke flavored catfish. The chemical characteristics were significantly affected on the pH value and the content of total phenols, but not significantly affected on water content and the content of total acid. Based on the results of the study concluded that the best treatment was the using of the raw material of liquid smoke coconut shell (A3) which have the characteristics of smoked fish with 7.00, flavor at 7.61, texture at 6.71, and aroma at 7.29 and containing a total phenol of 5.28 ppm and pH. 4.63
Evaluation of the influence of leaflet stiffening on leaflet stresses of porcine bioprosthetic valves using a finite element model
AbstractThe magnitude and distribution of mechanical stresses acting on the closed cusps of porcine bioprosthetic valves were estimated using a finite element model. Leaflet stresses were calculated using reported stress-strain properties of glutaraldehyde processed normal porcine valves and stress-strain properties of porcine valve leaflets stiffened by fatigue cycling (658 x 10 cycles). In the normal leaflet, at a pressure of 80 mm Hg, stresses were highest near the commissures (140 kPa), decreased near the center of the leaflet (110 kPa) and were lowest near the base of the leaflet (30 kPa). With increased leaflet stiffening, stresses near the commissures remained relatively unchanged (140 kPa). Stresses near the center of the leaflet, however, increased markedly (170 kPa). With increased leaflet stiffening, stresses near the base of the leaflet remained the lowest (60 kPa). The development of a site of stress concentration near the center of the leaflet following leaflet stiffening, may offer a clue to the etiology of leaflet perforations reported to occur in the central region of leaflets of degenerated porcine bioprosthetic valves

In general, the importance of cluster analysis is that one can evaluate elements by clustering multiple homogeneous data; the main objective of this analysis is to collect the elements of a single, homogeneous group into different divisions, depending on many variables. This method of analysis is used to reduce data, generate hypotheses and test them, as well as predict and match models. The research aims to evaluate the fuzzy cluster analysis, which is a special case of cluster analysis, as well as to compare the two methods—classical and fuzzy cluster analysis. The research topic has been allocated to the government and private hospitals. The sampling for this research was comprised of 288 patients being treated in 10 hospitals. As the similarity between hospitals of the study sample was measured according to the standards of quality of health services under fuzzy conditions (a case of uncertainty of the opinions of patients who were in the evaluation of health services provided to them, which was represented by a set of criteria and was measured in the form of a Likert five-point scale). Moreover, those criteria were organized into a questionnaire containing 31 items. The research found a number of conclusions, the most important is that both methods of hierarchical cluster analysis and fuzzy cluster analysis, classify the hospitals of the research sample into two clusters, each cluster comprises a group of hospitals that depend on applying health quality service standards. The second important conclusion is that the fuzzy cluster analysis is more suitable for the classification of the research sample compared to hierarchical cluster analysis
The Underwater Photic Environment of Cape Maclear, Lake Malawi: Comparison Between Rock- and Sand-Bottom Habitats and Implications for Cichlid Fish Vision
Lake Malawi boasts the highest diversity of freshwater fishes in the world. Nearshore sites are categorized according to their bottom substrate, rock or sand, and these habitats host divergent assemblages of cichlid fishes. Sexual selection driven by mate choice in cichlids led to spectacular diversification in male nuptial coloration. This suggests that the spectral radiance contrast of fish, the main determinant of visibility under water, plays a crucial role in cichlid visual communication. This study provides the first detailed description of underwater irradiance, radiance and beam attenuation at selected sites representing two major habitats in Lake Malawi. These quantities are essential for estimating radiance contrast and, thus, the constraints imposed on fish body coloration. Irradiance spectra in the sand habitat were shifted to longer wavelengths compared with those in the rock habitat. Beam attenuation in the sand habitat was higher than in the rock habitat. The effects of water depth, bottom depth and proximity to the lake bottom on radiometric quantities are discussed. The radiance contrast of targets exhibiting diffused and spectrally uniform reflectance depended on habitat type in deep water but not in shallow water. In deep water, radiance contrast of such targets was maximal at long wavelengths in the sand habitat and at short wavelengths in the rock habitat. Thus, to achieve conspicuousness, color patterns of rock-and sand-dwelling cichlids would be restricted to short and long wavelengths, respectively. This study provides a useful platform for the examination of cichlid visual communication
tt*-geometry on the big phase space
The big phase space, the geometric setting for the study of quantum cohomology with gravitational descendents, is a complex manifold and consists of an infinite number of copies of the small phase space. The aim of this paper is to define a Hermitian geometry on the big phase space.
Using the approach of Dijkgraaf and Witten, we lift various geometric structures of the small phase space to the big phase space. The main results of our paper state that various notions from tt*-geometry are preserved under such liftings
