ObjectiveOur objective was to study the effect of the association of weight loss intervention and pelvic floor muscle training (PFMT) on unirary incontinence (UI) in obese women.MethodsThis prospective study included 107 obese women with urinary incontinence (UI) randomized into three groups: G1 including women who underwent a training program with a low calorie diet, G2 women who underwent the same training associated to a PFMT and G3 women without any therapeutic intervention. An evaluation was realised a week before the beginning and after 12 months.ResultsA reduction of the BMI (body mass index) was noted in G1 and G2 (P<0.001). Sixty-six percent of women in G1 and 85.3% of women in G2 reported that their condition improved. The score of PFM strength was significantly improved only in G2 (P<0.001). Only in the two first group, we noted a significant reduction in the number of voiding and of leakages per day (P<0.001), a significant amelioration in the 24-hour pad test (P<0.001) and a significant improvement of the Urinary Disability Measure (UHM) and the score of quality of life (P<0.001). The improvement of all these parameters was more important in G2 (P<0.001).DiscussionThere are studies that report the effect of either weight loss intervention or PFMT for treating female UI [1,2]. However, there is no study that reveals whether or not there were additional effects of adding weight loss intervention to PFMT for UI in obese women. This work shows that the best management for UI in obese women must include weight loss intervention and PFMT with making women aware of their floor pelvic muscles. However, the limited nature of follow-up beyond the end of treatment means that the long-term outcomes of use of PFMT or weight loss intervention remain uncertain

Cardiovascular disease risk prediction in older people: a qualitative study.

BACKGROUND: Despite cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk prediction equations becoming more widely available for people aged ≥75 years, views of older people on CVD risk assessment are unknown. AIM: To explore older people's views on CVD risk prediction and its assessment. DESIGN AND SETTING: Qualitative study of community-dwelling older people in New Zealand. METHOD: A diverse group of older people was purposively recruited. Semi-structured interviews and focus groups were conducted, transcribed verbatim, and thematically analysed. RESULTS: Thirty-nine participants (mean age 74 years) of Māori, Pacific, South Asian, and European ethnicities participated in one of 26 interviews or one of three focus groups. Three key themes emerged: poor knowledge and understanding of CVD and its risk assessment; acceptability and perceived benefit of knowing and receiving advice on managing personal CVD risk; and distinguishing between CVD outcomes - stroke and heart attack are not the same. Most participants did not understand CVD terms, but were familiar with the terms 'heart attack' and 'stroke', and understood lifestyle risk factors for these events. Participants valued CVD outcomes differently, fearing stroke and disability - which might adversely affect independence and quality of life - but were less concerned about a heart attack, which was perceived as causing less disability or swifter death. These findings and preferences were similar across ethnic groups. All but two participants wanted to know their CVD risk, how to manage it, and distinguish between CVD outcomes. Those who did not wish to know perceived this as something only their God could decide. CONCLUSION: To inform clinical decision making for older people, consideration of an individual's wish to know their risk is important, and risk prediction tools should provide separate event types rather than just composite outcomes

In this paper, we study p-tuples of bounded linear operators on a complex Hilbert space with adjoint operators defined with respect to a non-zero positive operator A. Our main objective is to investigate the joint A-numerical radius of the p-tuple.We established several upper bounds for it, some of which extend and improve upon a previous work of the second author. Additionally, we provide several sharp inequalities involving the classical A-numerical radius and the A-seminorm of semi-Hilbert space operators as applications of our results

In this paper, we aim to establish several estimates concerning the generalized Euclidean operator radius of d-tuples of A-bounded linear operators acting on a complex Hilbert space (Formula presented.), which leads to the special case of the well-known A-numerical radius for (Formula presented.). Here, A is a positive operator on (Formula presented.). Some inequalities related to the Euclidean operator A-seminorm of d-tuples of A-bounded operators are proved. In addition, under appropriate conditions, several reverse bounds for the A-numerical radius in single and multivariable settings are also stated

Both the immature and mature Vicia faba L. seeds are used for human consumption. However, there is a lack of information on the phytochemical composition and the potent biological properties of the immature seeds. The aim of the present study was to establish the profile of bioactive lipids as well as the antibacterial, antioxidant, and α-amylase and α-glucosidase inhibitory capacities of the immature and mature Vicia faba L. seeds. The studied petroleum ether extracts contain different bioactive compounds such as β-sitosterol, lupeol, β-amyrin, α-tocopherol, and γ-tocopherol. The extracts of the immature seeds exhibited higher antioxidant and antibacterial activities than those of mature ones. All tested extracts exerted higher inhibition on α-glucosidase than α-amylase. The immature seeds appeared as promising sources of natural antioxidants, antibacterial compounds, and α-amylase and α-glucosidase inhibitors. Thus, the immature Vicia faba L. seeds have a great potential as functional foods providing health beneficial properties

The main focus of this paper is the study of the Selberg operator. It aims to establish appropriate bounds for the norm and numerical radius of the product of three bounded operators, with one of them being a Selberg operator. Moreover, it offers several bounds involving the summation of operators, notably the Selberg operator. Through the examination of these properties and relationships, this study contributes to a better understanding of the Selberg operator and its influence on operator compositions. The paper also highlights the significance of symmetry in mathematics and its potential implications across various mathematical domains
