    Profit Analysis of a Warm Standby Non-Identical Units System with Single Server Subject to Priority

    The present paper deals with the profit analysis of a warm standby non-identical (one is main unit another is duplicate unit) units system with single server. The model consists of two non-identical units –one is operative and the other kept as warm standby and one unit is sufficient to make the system in operative mode. The main unit may fail directly from normal mode and the warm standby unit can fail owing to remain unused for a longer period of time. There is a single server, who gives priority to repair of the main unit over the repair of the duplicate unit. The time is taken to repair activity by the server follows negative exponential distribution whereas the distributions of unit are taken as arbitrary with different probability density functions. The expressions of various efficiency measures are analyzed in steady state using semi-Markov process and regenerative point technique. Also, taking the arbitrary values for the parameters (i.e. ?, µ, ? and ?) to delineate the behavior of some important performance measures to check the efficacy of the system model under such situations shown in the graphs

    Correlation-induced spin-charge and spin-orbital coupling effects on spin dynamics in ferromagnetic manganites are calculated with realistic parameters in order to provide a quantitative comparison with experimental results for spin stiffness, magnon dispersion, magnon damping, anomalous zone-boundary magnon softening, and Curie temperature. The role of orbital degeneracy, orbital ordering, and orbital correlations on spin dynamics in different doping regimes is highlighted.Comment: 19 pages, 9 figure

    Experimental Investigation of the Mechanical and Thermal Properties of Natural Green Fibres

    Biomaterials and green products rely heavily on natural lignocellulosic fibres. They have a wide variety of potential capabilities and characteristics, making them suitable for many applications. These fibres offer all the components required for renewable energy deployment. Fibre polymers from Jharkhand such as palm, datura, lemon, and mustard were studied for their thermal, mechanical, and interfacial adhesion properties. There were also tests on tensile strength, elongation to break, and thermogravimetric analyses (TGA). The effects of heating on weight loss, water loss, and disintegration have also been studied. A comparison was made between frequently used global fibres and the fibres analysed in this research article. Jharkhand’s fibres are shown to be more compromising than worldwide fibres. Palm fibres have excellent tensile strength (160 MPa) and modulus of elasticity (5 GPa). The thermal behaviour of lemon and datura fibres is the most similar. Palm and mustard fibres respond similarly in warm temperatures. At 140°C and 240°C, mass loss was 18.8 and 24.3%, respectively. TGA shows that the studied fibres are more suited for industrial applications owing to their stable thermal behaviour. Plastics, textiles, packaging, and papers may all use palm fibres in insulators, circuit boards, switches, and terminals, as well as in furniture and window frames

    Identification and quantification of biological active constituents of Amritarishta, a herbal formulation

    Herbal formulations have been used by Indian and Chinese traditional systems of medication for a long time. Amritarishtais one of the herbal formulations that possess various biological activity viz., antioxidant, anticancer, analgesic, antipyretic,antidiabetic, etc. The active constituents include gallic acid, tannic acid, piperine, and quercetin, etc. Ethanolic extract of theformulation was analysed and quantified. Rf (Retardation factor), functional groups and amount of some of the major chemicalconstituents were analysed by TLC, FTIR, LC/MS, HPTLC and HPLC, respectively. LC/MS results reveal the presence ofquercetin, piperine, tannic acid and gallic acid in the formulation. With the help of HPTLC and HPLC, the quantity of 4chemical constituents in the formulation was estimated. This type of study is completely new to herbal research

    Unprecedented reduction in air pollution and corresponding short-term premature mortality associated with COVID-19 lockdown in Delhi, India

    Countries around the world introduced strict restrictions on movement and activities known as ‘lockdowns’ to restrict the spread of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) from the end of 2019. A sudden improvement in air quality was observed globally as a result of these lockdowns. To provide insight into the changes in air pollution levels in response to the COVID-19 restrictions we have compared surface air quality data in Delhi during four phases of lockdown and the first phase of the restriction easing period (25 March to 30 June 2020) with data from a baseline period (2018–2019). Simultaneously, short-term exposure of PM and O attributed premature mortality were calculated to understand the health benefit of the change in air quality. Ground–level observations in Delhi showed that concentrations of PM , PM and NO dropped substantially in 2020 during the overall study period compared with the same period in previous years, with average reductions of ~49%, ~39%, and ~39%, respectively. An overall lower reduction in O of ~19% was observed for Delhi. A slight increase in O was found in Delhi’s industrial and traffic regions. The highest peak of the diurnal variation decreased substantially for all the pollutants at every phase. The decrease in PM and O concentrations in 2020, prevented 904 total premature deaths, a 60% improvement when compared to the figures for 2018–2019. The restrictions on human activities during the lockdown have reduced anthropogenic emissions and subsequently improved air quality and human health in one of the most polluted cities in the world. Implications: I am submitting herewith the manuscript entitled “Unprecedented Reduction in Air Pollution and Corresponding Short-term Premature Mortality Associated with COVID-19 Forced Confinement in Delhi, India” for potential publishing in your journal. The novelty of this research lies in: (1) we utilized ground-level air quality data in Delhi during four phases of lockdown and the first phase of unlocking period (25 March to 30 June) for 2020 as well as data from the baseline period (2018–2019) to provide an early insight into the changes in air pollution levels in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, (2) Chatarize the change of diurnal variation of the pollutants and (3) we assess the health risk due to PM and O .     Background Findings from the RESTART trial suggest that starting antiplatelet therapy might reduce the risk of recurrent symptomatic intracerebral haemorrhage compared with avoiding antiplatelet therapy. Brain imaging features of intracerebral haemorrhage and cerebral small vessel diseases (such as cerebral microbleeds) are associated with greater risks of recurrent intracerebral haemorrhage. We did subgroup analyses of the RESTART trial to explore whether these brain imaging features modify the effects of antiplatelet therapy

    Research priorities in Maternal, Newborn, & Child Health & Nutrition for India:An Indian Council of Medical Research-INCLEN Initiative

    In India, research prioritization in Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health and Nutrition (MNCHN) themes has traditionally involved only a handful of experts mostly from major cities. The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR)-INCLEN collaboration undertook a nationwide exercise engaging faculty from 256 institutions to identify top research priorities in the MNCHN themes for 2016-2025. The Child Health and Nutrition Research Initiative method of priority setting was adapted. The context of the exercise was defined by a National Steering Group (NSG) and guided by four Thematic Research Subcommittees. Research ideas were pooled from 498 experts located in different parts of India, iteratively consolidated into research options, scored by 893 experts against five pre-defined criteria (answerability, relevance, equity, investment and innovation) and weighed by a larger reference group. Ranked lists of priorities were generated for each of the four themes at national and three subnational (regional) levels [Empowered Action Group & North-Eastern States, Southern and Western States, & Northern States (including West Bengal)]. Research priorities differed between regions and from overall national priorities. Delivery domain of research which included implementation research constituted about 70 per cent of the top ten research options under all four themes. The results were endorsed in the NSG meeting. There was unanimity that the research priorities should be considered by different governmental and non-governmental agencies for investment with prioritization on implementation research and issues cutting across themes

    Low Cost Tuberculosis Vaccine Antigens in Capsules: Expression in Chloroplasts, Bio-Encapsulation, Stability and Functional Evaluation In Vitro

    Tuberculosis (TB) caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis is one of the leading fatal infectious diseases. The development of TB vaccines has been recognized as a major public health priority by the World Health Organization. In this study, three candidate antigens, ESAT-6 (6kDa early secretory antigenic target) and Mtb72F (a fusion polyprotein from two TB antigens, Mtb32 and Mtb39) fused with cholera toxin B-subunit (CTB) and LipY (a cell wall protein) were expressed in tobacco and/or lettuce chloroplasts to facilitate bioencapsulation/oral delivery. Site-specific transgene integration into the chloroplast genome was confirmed by Southern blot analysis. In transplastomic leaves, CTB fusion proteins existed in soluble monomeric or multimeric forms of expected sizes and their expression levels varied depending upon the developmental stage and time of leaf harvest, with the highest-level of accumulation in mature leaves harvested at 6PM. The CTB-ESAT6 and CTB-Mtb72F expression levels reached up to 7.5% and 1.2% of total soluble protein respectively in mature tobacco leaves. Transplastomic CTB-ESAT6 lettuce plants accumulated up to 0.75% of total leaf protein. Western blot analysis of lyophilized lettuce leaves stored at room temperature for up to six months showed that the CTB-ESAT6 fusion protein was stable and preserved proper folding, disulfide bonds and assembly into pentamers for prolonged periods. Also, antigen concentration per gram of leaf tissue was increased 22 fold after lyophilization. Hemolysis assay with purified CTB-ESAT6 protein showed partial hemolysis of red blood cells and confirmed functionality of the ESAT-6 antigen. GM1-binding assay demonstrated that the CTB-ESAT6 fusion protein formed pentamers to bind with the GM1-ganglioside receptor. The expression of functional Mycobacterium tuberculosis antigens in transplastomic plants should facilitate development of a cost-effective and orally deliverable TB booster vaccine with potential for long-term storage at room temperature. To our knowledge, this is the first report of expression of TB vaccine antigens in chloroplasts
