Subwavelength atom localization via amplitude and phase control of the absorption spectrum
We propose a scheme for subwavelength localization of an atom conditioned
upon the absorption of a weak probe field at a particular frequency.
Manipulating atom-field interaction on a certain transition by applying drive
fields on nearby coupled transitions leads to interesting effects in the
absorption spectrum of the weak probe field. We exploit this fact and employ a
four-level system with three driving fields and a weak probe field, where one
of the drive fields is a standing-wave field of a cavity. We show that the
position of an atom along this standing wave is determined when probe field
absorption is measured. We find that absorption of the weak probe field at a
certain frequency leads to subwavelength localization of the atom in either of
the two half-wavelength regions of the cavity field by appropriate choice of
the system parameters. We term this result as sub-half-wavelength localization
to contrast it with the usual atom localization result of four peaks spread
over one wavelength of the standing wave. We observe two localization peaks in
either of the two half-wavelength regions along the cavity axis.Comment: Accepted for publication to Physical Review

data maintainance for privacy, value and validity. This study focuses on investigating the existing approach of sharing and retrieving patient information and to develop
prototype to make electronic health record more easy to access. A web-application prototype was developed using ASP.NET SQL Server2005 for sharing patients' information. Finally, the users' satisfaction of the developed prototype was measured using IBM Computer Usability Satisfaction Questionnaires
On robustness against JPEG2000: a performance evaluation of wavelet-based watermarking techniques
With the emergence of new scalable coding standards, such as JPEG2000, multimedia is stored as scalable coded bit streams that may be adapted to cater network, device and usage preferences in multimedia usage chains providing universal multimedia access. These adaptations include quality, resolution, frame rate and region of interest scalability and achieved by discarding least significant parts of the bit stream according to the scalability criteria. Such content adaptations may also affect the content protection data, such as watermarks, hidden in the original content. Many wavelet-based robust watermarking techniques robust to such JPEG2000 compression attacks are proposed in the literature. In this paper, we have categorized and evaluated the robustness of such wavelet-based image watermarking techniques against JPEG2000 compression, in terms of algorithmic choices, wavelet kernel selection, subband selection, or watermark selection using a new modular framework. As most of the algorithms use a different set of parametric combination, this analysis is particularly useful to understand the effect of various parameters on the robustness under a common platform and helpful to design any such new algorithm. The analysis also considers the imperceptibility performance of the watermark embedding, as robustness and imperceptibility are two main watermarking properties, complementary to each other
Chemical simulation of greywater
Sustainable water resources management attracts considerable attention in today’s world. Recycling and reuse of both wastewater and greywater are becoming more attractive. The strategy is to protect ecosystem services by balancing the withdrawal of water and the disposal of wastewater. In the present study, a timely and novel synthetic greywater composition has been proposed with respect of the composition of heavy metals, nutrients and organic matter. The change in water quality of the synthetic greywater due to increasing storage time was monitored to evaluate the stability of the proposed chemical formula. The new greywater is prepared artificially using analytical grade chemicals to simulate either low (LC) or high (HC) pollutant concentrations. The characteristics of the synthetic greywater were tested (just before starting the experiment, after two days and a week of storage under real weather conditions) and compared to those reported for real greywater. Test results for both synthetic greywater types showed great similarities with the physiochemical properties of published findings concerning real greywater. Furthermore, the synthetic greywater is relatively stable in terms of its characteristics for different storage periods. However, there was a significant (p<0.05) reduction in 5-day biochemical oxygen demand (BOD5) for both low (LC) and high (HC) concentrations of greywater after two days of storage with reductions of 62% and 55%, respectively. A significant (p<0.05) change was also noted for the reduction (70%) of nitrate‒nitrogen (NO3‒N) concerning HC greywater after seven days of storage
Microscopic calculations of medium effects for 200-MeV (p,p') reactions
We examine the quality of a G-matrix calculation of the effective
nucleon-nucleon (NN) interaction for the prediction of the cross section and
analyzing power for 200-MeV (p,p') reactions that populate natural parity
states in O, Si, and Ca. This calculation is based on a
one-boson-exchange model of the free NN force that reproduces NN observables
well. The G-matrix includes the effects of Pauli blocking, nuclear binding, and
strong relativistic mean-field potentials. The implications of adjustments to
the effective mass ansatz to improve the quality of the approximation at
momenta above the Fermi level will be discussed, along with the general quality
of agreement to a variety of (p,p') transitions.Comment: 36 pages, TeX, 18 figure
