Molecular genetic diversity of some rabbit breeds based on mitochondrial 16S rRNA sequences
[EN] The present study was performed to assess the genetic variations among six rabbit breeds in Egypt based on mitochondrial 16S rRNA sequences. The length of partial mitochondrial 16S rRNA in the six rabbit breeds ranged from 546 bp to 558 bp. The sequenced regions were submitted to GenBank/NCBI under accession numbers (MW052052 - MW052057). The average content of A+T was 57% in all breeds. Among breeds, the percentages of genetic distance values were ranged from 0.000 to 0.004. The highest P-distance (0.004) was found between the New Zealand White breed and all other breeds. The results support the suitability of mitochondrial 16S rRNA for genetic diversity analysis of rabbit breeds and the applicability for future research on genetic relationships and the phylogeny of rabbit breeds.Allam, M.; Mahrous, NS. Minisum and minimax transfer point location problem with random demands points
This paper is concerned with analyzing some models of the weighted transfer point location problem under the minisum and minimax criterions when demand points are randomly distributed over regions of the plane and the location of the service facility is known. In case of minisum objective with rectilinear distance, an iterative procedure was constructed for estimating the optimal transfer point location using the hyperbolic application procedure. Exact analytic solution was obtained when the random demand points follow uniform distributions. A unified analytic optimal solution was provided for all types of probability distributions of the random demand points when the distance is the squared Euclidean distance. For minimax objective with squared Euclidean distance, an iterative procedure based on Karush-Kuhn-Tucker conditions was developed to produce an approximate solution to the optimal solution. Illustrative numerical examples were provided
Experimental research into the effect of some operation factors and rock properties on the rate of penetration
Purpose. The purpose of this research is to investigate the effect of weight on bit (WOB), rotary speed (RPM), and some rock properties on the rate of penetration (ROP).
Methods. Four types of rock were collected from different sites in the south of Egypt (Aswan sandstone, Isawya limestone, Assiut limestone, and Minya marble). These tested samples were drilled by diamond core bit using a fixed laboratory diamond drilling machine under conditions (400 and 1200 rpm), and loads from 12 to 220 kg. WOB, ROP, torque (T) and specific energy (SE) were continuously observed during the drilling trials. The effect of these factors on ROP were examined. Water is used as a flushing and cooling medium.
Findings. The effect of some operation factors on the penetration rate regarding mineral composition and different rock type was evaluated and the general equation was carried out to predict the suitable operation factor which gives the best penetration Rate.
Originality. The effect of some operation factors on the penetration rate regarding mineral composition and different rock type was evaluated and the general equation was carried out to predict the suitable operation factor which gives the best penetration Rate.
Practical implications. The Results demonstrated that ROP was inversely proportional to compressive strength (CS), tensile strength (TS), and density. It was also found that Aswan sandstone, Isawya limestone, Assiut limestone, and Minya marble have CS 111.94 MPa, 131.22 MPa, 125.0 MPa, and 502.5 MPa respectively. Was established that ROP was directly proportional to porosity. Increasing ROP in case of Aswan sandstone is associated with increase in porosity – 23.158%, and in case of Assiut limestone and Isawya limestone ROP is also associated with an increase in porosity – 19.9% and 17.93% respectively. Decreasing ROP in case of Minya marble is associated with decrease in porosity – 2.314%. So, we concluded that marble has lower ROP due to its higher CS, TS, and density and lower porosity than other tested rocks.
Our sincere gratitude for Mining and Metallurgical Engineering Dept. Numerical investigation of laminar flow in micro-tubes with designed surface roughness
This paper was presented at the 3rd Micro and Nano Flows Conference (MNF2011), which was held at the Makedonia Palace Hotel, Thessaloniki in Greece. The conference was organised by Brunel University and supported by the Italian Union of Thermofluiddynamics, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, University of Thessaly, IPEM, the Process Intensification Network, the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, the Heat Transfer Society, HEXAG - the Heat Exchange Action Group, and the Energy Institute.Recently, there has been a rapid growth in applications that deal with fluid flow at micro-scale where surface roughness is a real feature in these applications. Published literature shows conflicting
findings regarding the effect of surface roughness on the friction factor of laminar flow at micro-scale. The understanding of fluid flow behavior in micro-tubes is very important for effective design of micro-fluidic devices. This work presents a numerical investigation of the effect of various surface roughness geometries on friction factor in fluid flow in the laminar regime. Results indicate that surface roughness causes deviation of the frictional factor from conventional theory with various values depending on the height and shape of
the roughness used

Numerical investigation of laminar flow heat transfer through helically coiled tubes using Al2O3 nanofluid
This paper was presented at the 3rd Micro and Nano Flows Conference (MNF2011), which was held at the Makedonia Palace Hotel, Thessaloniki in Greece. The conference was organised by Brunel University and supported by the Italian Union of Thermofluiddynamics, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, University of Thessaly, IPEM, the Process Intensification Network, the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, the Heat Transfer Society, HEXAG - the Heat Exchange Action Group, and the Energy Institute.Nanofluids have been reported to enhance heat transfer performance in heat exchangers.
Additionally, the use of helical coils has shown to be another passive heat transfer enhancement technique. This work presents a CFD modeling study to investigate the laminar heat transfer through helical tubes with nanofluids. The developed CFD models were validated against published experimental results and empirical
correlations in the literature. The effects of particles concentration and Reynolds number on heat transfer coefficient were numerically investigated. Results have shown that Al2O3 dispersed in water increases the
heat transfer coefficient in helical coils by up to 4.5 times that of pure water in straight tubes at same Reynolds number. For concentrations larger than 2%, Al2O3 is more suitable for thermal systems of small thermal loads where the pumping power is not critical

BUILDING A COMMUNITY OF PRACTICE FOR ENGLISH-AS-A-FOREIGN LANGUAGE TUTORS DURING PRIVATE TUTORING
The creation of a community of practice of tutors--a shared practice among a group of people who share the same domain--enables second-language learners to facilitate their acquisition of English by embracing new learning strategies while they learn the target language. The community of tutors’ perspective allows for the incorporation of the individual’s particular second-language-acquisition needs and goals. This presentation presents a proposed study that took place at the Yasuda Center at California State University, San Bernardino in the summer of 2015. Students in the English Language Program housed in the College of Extended Learning were asked to participate in tutoring sessions offered by tutors who participated in a community of tutors. Tutors embraced new teaching strategies that they acquired through participating within a community of practice, sharing their background knowledge and teaching experience, and demonstrating new teaching techniques to each other by using collaborative and hybrid strategies during activities embedded in a rich learning context. The provision of community of practice for tutors in the English Language Program enabled learners to develop meaning-making and communication skills as well as language and literacy skills to address the informational and problem-solving needs of their tasks and assignments

Both indirect and direct optical energy gaps are calculated and discussed
Genetic polymorphism of five genes associated with growth traits in goat
Genetic polymorphism studies in domestic animals aim at evaluating genetic variations within and across breeds mainly for conservation purposes. In this study, polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) was used to detect polymorphisms of five candidate genes in four Egyptian and Saudi goat breeds (Barki, Zaribi, Ardi and Masri), to detect the genotype of GH, IGF1, POUIF1, MSTN and BMP15 genes in the goat breeds and their allele frequencies. Results of GH gene which encloses a Haelll endonuclease restriction site show four unique PCR-RFLP banding patterns (genotypes AA, AB, CC and CD). The frequencies of the A allele in the samples from the goat breeds varied from 0.410 to 0.620. While IGF-1gene revealed three fragments after digestion with Haelll with genotype AA, AB and BB and the frequencies of allele A varied from 0.432 to 0.731. Furthermore, PCR-RFLP of POUIF1 gene showed two fragments after digestion by Pst1 endonuclease with genotype TT and CC and the frequencies of allele T varied from 0.250 to 0.840. The MSTN gene revealed three fragments after digestion with DraI with genotype AA, BB and AB and the frequencies of allele A varied from 0.240 to 0.630. Meanwhile, the BMP15 gene revealed one fragments of 112 bp for AA after digestion with Hinf1 enzyme.Key words: Goats, polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP), GH, IGF-1, POUIF1, MSTN, BMP-15
CHEMICAL INVESTIGATION OF BAUHINIA VAHLII WIGHT AND ARNOTT LEAVES GROWN IN EGYPT
Objective: Plants of genus Bauhinia are famous for their rich flavonoid content. Several phytochemical and biological investigations affirmed the role of flavonoids in the different biological impacts exerted by Bauhinia plants. The present study aims to investigate the major phytoconstituents of the leaves of B. vahlii Wight and Arnott. Methods: Powdered leaves were extracted with n-hexane (HE) and the defatted marc was extracted with 70% ethanol. The defatted ethanolic extract (DEE) was further partitioned with solvents of increasing polarities. The HE and polar fractions of DEE were purified using different chromatographic techniques and isolated compounds were identified through their melting points, 1D and 2D NMR, UV and MS spectral data. Results: A total of nine compounds were isolated and identified. Taraxerol (1), a pentacyclic triterpene, and β-sitosterol (2) were isolated from HE. Investigation of polar fractions of DEE yielded six flavonoids and a phenolic acid, namely luteolin (3), quercetin (4), gallic acid (5), avicularin (6), quercitrin (7), hyperoside (8) and quercetin-3-O-β-sophoroside (9).Conclusion: Flavonols of the quercetin nucleus were the major detected constituents in B. vahlii leaves. Taraxerol, avicularin and quercetin-3-O-β-sophoroside are isolated for the first time from the genus Bauhinia. Results of this study encourage future pharmacological investigation of B. vahlii due to the presence of biologically active flavonoids and phytosterols. Keywords: Bauhinia vahlii Wight, Arnott., Polar extractives, Flavonols, Quercetin, TaraxerolÂ
