VisSim Based Modeling and Simulation of Hybrid Diesel and Wind Power Generation

Energy demand pattern in Indonesia continues to increase due to the population growth, economic growth and behavior of energy consumption. Meanwhile, the availability of fossil energy as the main source of energy is very limited and continues to thin out. This paper discusses the modeling and simulation of hybrid power generator system consisting of wind power and diesel generator. Each component associated with this generating system is modeled and simulated in order to investigate the performance of the proposed hybrid generation system. The variations in environmental condition can be analyzed easily and quickly and the changes in generating parameters can be clearly demonstrated using VisSim software. From the simulation results, the simulation model is made to follow the characteristics of wind power, diesel generator for the initial hybrid generation system

Ethylene and the regulation of plant development

Often considered an 'aging' hormone due to its role in accelerating such developmental processes as ripening, senescence, and abscission, the plant hormone ethylene also regulates many aspects of growth and development throughout the life cycle of the plant. Multiple mechanisms have been identified by which transcriptional output from the ethylene signaling pathway can be tailored to meet the needs of particular developmental pathways. Of special interest is the report by Lumba et al. in BMC Biology on how vegetative transitions are regulated through the effect of the transcription factor FUSCA3 on ethylene-controlled gene expression, providing an elegant example of how hormonal control can be integrated into a developmental pathway

Mapping research activity on mental health disorders in Europe: Study protocol for the Mapping_NCD project

© 2016 The Author(s). Background: Mental health disorders (MHDs) constitute a large and growing disease burden in Europe, although they typically receive less attention and research funding than other non-communicable diseases (NCDs). This study protocol describes a methodology for the mapping of MHD research in Europe as part of Mapping_NCD, a 2-year project funded by the European Commission which seeks to map European research funding and impact for five NCDs in order to identify potential gaps, overlaps, synergies and opportunities, and to develop evidence-based policies for future research. Methods: The project aims to develop a multi-focal view of the MHD research landscape across the 28 European Union Member States, plus Iceland, Norway and Switzerland, through a survey of European funding entities, analysis of research initiatives undertaken in the public, voluntary/not-for-profit and commercial sectors, and expert interviews to contextualize the gathered data. The impact of MHD research will be explored using bibliometric analyses of scientific publications, clinical guidelines and newspaper stories reporting on research initiatives. Finally, these research inputs and outputs will be considered in light of various metrics that have been proposed to inform priorities for the allocation of research funds, including burden of disease, treatment gaps and cost of illness. Discussion: Given the growing burden of MHDs, a clear and broad view of the current state of MHD research is needed to ensure that limited resources are directed to evidence-based priority areas. MHDs pose a particular challenge in mapping the research landscape due to their complex nature, high co-morbidity and varying diagnostic criteria. Undertaking such an effort across 31 countries is further challenged by differences in data collection, healthcare systems, reimbursement rates and clinical practices, as well as cultural and socioeconomic diversity. Using multiple methods to explore the spectrum of MHD research funding activity across Europe, this project aims to develop a broad, high-level perspective to inform priority setting for future research

1233-1239New cobalt(II) dithiocarbazates with different mononegative and dinegative counter anions, of the general formulae [Co(IN-DtczH)₂]Xո (IN-DtczH = isonicotinoyldithiocarbazic acid; X = Cl, Br, NO₃, ClO₄, CH₃COO for n = 2 and X = SO4 and C₂O₄ for n = 1) for Zwitterionic complexes and [Co(IN-Dtcz)₂] for a normal complex, have been obtained. These complexes have been investigated by elemental analyses, room-temperature infrared and electronic spectral and magnetic susceptibility measurements. Five of the complexes have also been investigated for variable temperature magnetic susceptibility measurements. The complexes, [Co(IN-DtczH)₂]Xո (X = Cl, Br, NO₃, ClO₄, CH₃COO for n = 2; X = SO₄ for n = 1) and [Co(IN-Dtcz)₂] have NS linkage while the [Co(IN-DtczH)₂]C₂O₄ complex has ONS bonded ligand. The magnetic and spectral studies suggest that [Co(IN-DtczH)₂](NO₃)₂ is tetrahedral; [Co(IN-DtczH)₂]X₂ (X = Br, ClO₄) and [Co(IN-Dtcz)₂] are square planar; and, [Co(IN-DtczH)₂]X₂ (X = CH₃COO, Cl) involves square planar-tetrahedral equilibrium. The [Co(IN-DtczH)₂]X (X = SO₄, C₂O₄) complexes have octahedral geometry with sulphato or oxalato bridged polymeric structure with appreciable superexchange antiferromagnetic interactions. The mononegative ions, i.e. nitrate, perchlorate and acetate are acting as counter anions
