An Integer Programming Formulation of the Minimum Common String Partition problem

We consider the problem of finding a minimum common partition of two strings (MCSP). The problem has its application in genome comparison. MCSP problem is proved to be NP-hard. In this paper, we develop an Integer Programming (IP) formulation for the problem and implement it. The experimental results are compared with the previous state-of-the-art algorithms and are found to be promising.Comment: arXiv admin note: text overlap with arXiv:1401.453

A Modified Distortion Measurement Algorithm for Shape Coding

    Get PDF
Efficient encoding of object boundaries has become increasingly prominent in areas such as content-based storage and retrieval, studio and television post-production facilities, mobile communications and other real-time multimedia applications. The way distortion between the actual and approximated shapes is measured however, has a major impact upon the quality of the shape coding algorithms. In existing shape coding methods, the distortion measure do not generate an actual distortion value, so this paper proposes a new distortion measure, called a modified distortion measure for shape coding (DMSC) which incorporates an actual perceptual distance. The performance of the Operational Rate Distortion optimal algorithm [1] incorporating DMSC has been empirically evaluated upon a number of different natural and synthetic arbitrary shapes. Both qualitative and quantitative results confirm the superior results in comparison with the ORD lgorithm for all test shapes, without any increase in computational complexity

    Image-Dependent Spatial Shape-Error Concealment

    Get PDF
Existing spatial shape-error concealment techniques are broadly based upon either parametric curves that exploit geometric information concerning a shape's contour or object shape statistics using a combination of Markov random fields and maximum a posteriori estimation. Both categories are to some extent, able to mask errors caused by information loss, provided the shape is considered independently of the image/video. They palpably however, do not afford the best solution in applications where shape is used as metadata to describe image and video content. This paper presents a novel image-dependent spatial shape-error concealment (ISEC) algorithm that uses both image and shape information by employing the established rubber-band contour detecting function, with the novel enhancement of automatically determining the optimal width of the band to achieve superior error concealment. Experimental results corroborate both qualitatively and numerically, the enhanced performance of the new ISEC strategy compared with established techniques

Joint-SRVDNet: Joint Super Resolution and Vehicle Detection Network

    Get PDF
In many domestic and military applications, aerial vehicle detection and super-resolutionalgorithms are frequently developed and applied independently. However, aerial vehicle detection on super-resolved images remains a challenging task due to the lack of discriminative information in the super-resolved images. To address this problem, we propose a Joint Super-Resolution and Vehicle DetectionNetwork (Joint-SRVDNet) that tries to generate discriminative, high-resolution images of vehicles fromlow-resolution aerial images. First, aerial images are up-scaled by a factor of 4x using a Multi-scaleGenerative Adversarial Network (MsGAN), which has multiple intermediate outputs with increasingresolutions. Second, a detector is trained on super-resolved images that are upscaled by factor 4x usingMsGAN architecture and finally, the detection loss is minimized jointly with the super-resolution loss toencourage the target detector to be sensitive to the subsequent super-resolution training. The network jointlylearns hierarchical and discriminative features of targets and produces optimal super-resolution results. Weperform both quantitative and qualitative evaluation of our proposed network on VEDAI, xView and DOTAdatasets. The experimental results show that our proposed framework achieves better visual quality than thestate-of-the-art methods for aerial super-resolution with 4x up-scaling factor and improves the accuracy ofaerial vehicle detection

The Impact of Covid-19 Pandemic on Taxpayers’ Compliance of MSMEs in Palembang

    Get PDF
This study aims to determine the impact of the attitude of taxpayers, taxpayers’ knowledge, taxpayers’ awareness, and tax socialization on taxpayers’ compliance of Micro, Small, Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs) in Palembang, Indonesia during the Covid-19 Pandemic. A quantitative research method is used with a deductive research approach. This study used primary data by distributing questionnaires to taxpayers’ compliance of MSMEs in Palembang, Indonesia. The sample size used was 396 respondents with a total population of 37.902 (Department of Cooperatives and MSMEs, 2019) by using simple random sampling. Moreover, the IBM SPSS 20 software is used for analytical tool in this study. The results of this study indicate that partially the attitude of taxpayers’, taxpayers’ knowledge, and taxpayers’ awareness have a positive and significant effect on taxpayers’ compliance. On the other hand, tax socialization has no effect on taxpayers’ complianc

INFLUENCE OF ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE, WORK DESIGN AND COMPETENCY TOWARD NURSES PERFORMANCE SATISFACTION

A critical institution in a society is the hospital as a centre for medical services. There are physicians and nurses in the hospital. Nurses are also expected to enhance nursing performance as the largest health care team. The organisational structure here can only strengthen the perception of some dimensions of job satisfaction, such as the attainment of value. Ali and Zia-ur-Rehman (2014) found a strong link between work design and the performance of employees and job satisfaction that had a positive effect on the performance of employees. The topic of this study is formulated in the title on the basis of the review of the following problems: The influence of organisational structure, work design and competence on the performance satisfaction of nurses at Jakarta Seaport Hospital and Omni Hospital Pulomas. The method of this study is quantitative descriptive research, namely research on data gathered and expressed in the form of numbers. In this report, the target population was as many as 200 nurses at the Jakarta Seaport Hospital and as many as 200 nurses at the Omni Pulomas Jakarta Hospital. Result: Organizational structure (X1) on the satisfaction of the performance of nurses at Omni Hospital Pulomas has a higher impact value than Jakarta Seaport Hospital, while Jakarta Seaport Hospital has a higher impact value for Work Design (X2) on Nurse's Performance Satisfaction (Y) than the Omni Hospital Pulomas in Jakarta, and for the Jakarta Seaport Hospital Competency Variable (X3) (Y). In comparison, Omni Hospital has the effect of competence on the performance satisfaction of nurses (Y). Nurses need to further strengthen their performance and competence and pay more attention to patients' concerns. JEL: L20; M10; I10 Article visualizations

A CONCEPTUAL UNDERSTANDING OF THE CRITICAL FACTORS THAT INDUCE WOMEN ENTREPRENEURIAL SUCCESS IN THE KLANG VALLEY, MALAYSIA

    Get PDF
Entrepreneurship has always been men’s realm, nevertheless women’s enthusiasm in business shows some intensification in Malaysia, but their success is still trivial. This stimulates doubts about the factors that induce their success as entrepreneurs. The objective of this research is to offer an understanding into the success factors of women entrepreneurs in the Klang Valley, Malaysia. Thus, this study focuses on the implication of five variables, which are financial capital, human capital, social capital, innovation and work-life balance that induces success to the women entrepreneurs. To attain the objective of this study, a survey technique is used. The primary data would provide an understanding of the factors that induces success to the women entrepreneur. This study used quantitative methods to produce empirical outcomes and validations to answer the research questions. The Resource-Based View Theory and Conflict Theory are the theoretical foundations that fill the gaps of the study. The findings of this study could perhaps be a benchmark to other women to rise against all tribulations faced in their pursuit to triumph and remain at the highest socio-economic level as well as attain a competitive edge in business.  Article visualizations
