Synopsis of early field test results from the gravity gradiometer survey system
Although the amount of data yielded by the initial airborne and surface tests was modest, it was sufficient to demonstrate that the full gravity gradient tensor was successfully measured from moving platforms both in the air and on the surface. The measurements were effectively continuous with spatial along-track resolution limited only by choice of integration lengths taken to reduce noise. The airborne data were less noisy (800 E squared/Hz typical) than were the Gravity Gradiometer Survey System (GGSS) measurements taken at the surface (5000 E squared/Hz typical). Single tracks of surface gravity disturbances recovered from airborne data were accurate to 3 to 4 mgal in each component of gravity when compared to 5 x 5 mean gravity anomalies over a 90 km track. Multitrack processing yielded 2 to 3 mgal when compared to 5 x 5 mean anomalies. Deflection of the vertical recovery over a distance of 150 km was about one arcsecond
Local Quantum Measurement and No-Signaling Imply Quantum Correlations
We show that, assuming that quantum mechanics holds locally, the finite speed
of information is the principle that limits all possible correlations between
distant parties to be quantum mechanical as well. Local quantum mechanics means
that a Hilbert space is assigned to each party, and then all local
positive-operator-valued measurements are (in principle) available; however,
the joint system is not necessarily described by a Hilbert space. In
particular, we do not assume the tensor product formalism between the joint
systems. Our result shows that if any experiment would give nonlocal
correlations beyond quantum mechanics, quantum theory would be invalidated even

Maximally Causal Quantum Mechanics
We present a new causal quantum mechanics in one and two dimensions developed
recently at TIFR by this author and V. Singh. In this theory both position and
momentum for a system point have Hamiltonian evolution in such a way that the
ensemble of system points leads to position and momentum probability densities

Non-Contextual Hidden Variables and Physical Measurements
For a hidden variable theory to be indistinguishable from quantum theory for
finite precision measurements, it is enough that its predictions agree for some
measurement within the range of precision. Meyer has recently pointed out that
the Kochen-Specker theorem, which demonstrates the impossibility of a
deterministic hidden variable description of ideal spin measurements on a spin
1 particle, can thus be effectively nullified if only finite precision
measurements are considered. We generalise this result: it is possible to
ascribe consistent outcomes to a dense subset of the set of projection valued
measurements, or to a dense subset of the set of positive operator valued
measurements, on any finite dimensional system. Hence no Kochen-Specker like
contradiction can rule out hidden variable theories indistinguishable from

Hopf Structure and Green Ansatz of Deformed Parastatistics Algebras
Deformed parabose and parafermi algebras are revised and endowed with Hopf
structure in a natural way.
The noncocommutative coproduct allows for construction of parastatistics
Fock-like representations, built out of the simplest deformed bose and fermi
representations. The construction gives rise to quadratic algebras of deformed

The generalized Kochen-Specker theorem
A proof of the generalized Kochen-Specker theorem in two dimensions due to
Cabello and Nakamura is extended to all higher dimensions. A set of 18 states
in four dimensions is used to give closely related proofs of the generalized
Kochen-Specker, Kochen-Specker and Bell theorems that shed some light on the

Small optic suspensions for Advanced LIGO input optics and other precision optical experiments
We report on the design and performance of small optic suspensions developed
to suppress seismic motion of out-of-cavity optics in the Input Optics
subsystem of the Advanced LIGO interferometric gravitational wave detector.
These compact single stage suspensions provide isolation in all six degrees of
freedom of the optic, local sensing and actuation in three of them, and passive
damping for the other three
The auxiliary use of LANDSAT data in estimating crop acreages: Results of the 1975 Illinois crop-acreage experiment
The author has identified the following significant results. It was found that classifier performance was influenced by a number of temporal, methodological, and geographical factors. Best results were obtained when corn was tasselled and near the dough stage of development. Dates earlier or later in the growing season produced poor results. Atmospheric effects on results cannot be independently measured or completely separated from the effects due to the maturity stage of the crops. Poor classifier performance was observed in areas where considerable spectral confusion was present
