New information on saxicolous bryophyte distribution in the NW mountains of Portugal is presented as it was considered relevant for the re-evaluation of their conservation status in Portugal and Europe. New localities of three taxa corresponding to old collections in Portugal, as well as new reports of three saxicolous bryophyte species previously considered rare in Portugal (Sérgio et al., 1994) are presented. Grimmia horrida (Grimmiaceae), a new species from the Iberian Peninsula

Grimmia horrida, a new species from the NW of the Iberian Peninsula is described and illustrated. The new species is characterized by the ciliate hair-points. Additionally, the leaves are linear, strongly keeled so that the two blades of the lamina touch each other near the costa and then curve outward, the lamina is bistratose only at the margins and in small areas, and the connection to the terete hair-point is very abrupt in most leaves. The Guarani land — Checklist of hornworts and liverworts of Paraguay

The first ever liverwort and hornwort checklist is provided for Paraguay. Despite the high level of biological diversity in Paraguay, there remain very few intensive collecting efforts for liverworts and hornworts in the region since the late 1800’s. We report 2 hornwort taxa and 71 liverwort taxa. The list is based on almost 100 literature references, including monographs, regional studies, and molecular investigations. Given the dramatic loss of habitats in Paraguay coupled with high species diversity in other organisms, further collecting of liverworts and hornworts is critical. There is also the potential to use historical records with contemporary collections to investigate the impact of habitat loss in the area
