Fábrica La Trinidad de Sevilla: experiencia desoladora de la "no" puesta en valora del patrimonio industrial

    Get PDF

Analysing the ideas with which teachers and pupils confront problems in physics and chemistry. The starting point for this analysis is the compilation of the difficulties and causes of failure involved in solving problems raised during a didactic investigation of these subjects. This part shows the results obtained in relation to the pupils. They show their opinions on the difficulties they came across, their evaluations, relationships between these and other groups of students showing similar characteristics. Another paper will be dedicated to the teacher's opinions and a comparison between both groups

Analysing the ideas with which teachers and pupils confront problems in physics and chemistry. The starting point for this analysis is the compilation of difficulties and causes of failure involved in solving problems raised in a didactic investigation of the subjects. This second part -referring to the teachers- shows the relationships between difficulties faced as well as distinguishing between groups of teachers who share similar ideas about problem solving education. Finally a comparison is made between the two sections -teachers and pupils- with implications to teaching and learning

Women’s disengagement from legal proceedings for intimate partner violence in southern Spain: Variables related to legal proceedings

    Get PDF
This article studies the relationship between a set of variables related to the legal process and women’s disengagement from legal proceedings against their (ex)partners in Southern Spain. A total of 345 women answered a questionnaire. Results evidenced that request for a protection order (PO), granting such PO, imprisonment of the offender, and women’s perception of who decided during the process were significantly related to disengagement (medium effect size). In addition, a logistic regression model was developed to predict disengagement with two variables: granting a PO and women’s perception of who decided. Results are interpreted in terms of the necessity that the judicial system gives support, protects, and provides women with opportunities to participate in the recovery process.Junta de Andalucía 1071/0453Ministerio de Educación, Cultura y Deporte (España) FPU15/0037

La masa no se crea ni se destruye ¿Estáis seguros?

From the very outset of the study of chemistry, the concepts of mass, physical and chemical transformations of matter and the law of conservation are fundamental. However, in reality, the learning of these concepts that pupils believe they understand is not very secure. When they try to apply their ideas to simple questions they make mistakes and the reasoning they use does not correspond to the explanations or definitions that they are able to repeat

Analysis of the Utilization of Air-Cooled Blast Furnace Slag as Industrial Waste Aggregates in Self-Compacting Concrete

    Get PDF
In this work, the effects of replacing the aggregates of self-compacting concrete by air-cooled blast furnace slag have been analysed. Different mixes have been manufactured by substituting the fine and coarse natural aggregates by air-cooled blast furnace slag. The fracture energy and the tensile and compressive strength have been determined for each mix. The self-compacting properties of the mixes, or the absence of them, have been observed. The main goals of this research are the decrease of the price of aggregates, reduction of the industrial waste, and attenuation the rate of consumption of natural resources. The results show that the self-compactability of the concrete is gradually lost as the slag content is increased, thus, when the ratio of replacement is low, the concrete keeps the self-compacting properties. Nevertheless, the loss of self-compaction affects the mechanical properties by increasing its strength. An air-cooled blast furnace slag did not present problems of heavy metals leaching.Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad BIA2016-75431-RUniversidad de Sevilla VI Plan Propio de Investigació

Deontological and Consequentialist Ethics and Attitudes Towards Corruption: A Survey Data Analysis

    Get PDF
Much of the empirical research on corruption for the past 45 years has focused on perception-based definitions and measurements. Citizens’ perceptions, their attitudes and (self)reported experiences of corruption have been widely studied through different perception-based measures obtained in surveys, interviews, and experiments applied to citizens in general, and experts, business leaders, politicians, or public officials. Notwithstanding the significant progress made to understand the complexity of citizens’ understandings, judgements and practices, we are still unable to decipher by what criteria they establish what is or is not corruption and what types of corruption are susceptible of being condemned/tolerated. This paper makes an innovative contribution to fill this gap. We propose a methodological design to identify and measure different perception-based definitions of corruption based on two contrasting normative perspectives: deontological and consequentialist ethics. We identified four groups: the Virtuous; the Intransigent; the Pragmatic; and the Hypocrite. Using survey data from a national sample of Portuguese citizens, we employ discriminant analysis and logistic regression models to differentiate individual profiles in terms of process- and outcome-based social definitions of corruption and explore the explanatory factors that account for these different conceptualisations and their different degree of tolerance towards corruption.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
