This paper aims to measure the psychotherapeutic processes effectiveness, and observe at what point in the process the higher incidence of changes occurs, under the Ericksonian Brief Therapy Approach. New taxonomic position and neotype designation for the conoidean gastropod Pleurotoma patagonica d’Orbigny, 1841

    Get PDF
Pleurotoma patagonica d’Orbigny, 1841 has been placed in several genera and families since its original description, perhaps because the type material, presumed lost, was never revised after the original description and because of the chaotic systematics of conoidean gastropods. New specimens, matching the original description and illustration and collected near the type locality allowed us to study the radula, shell, and protoconch. A neotype designation is proposed for this species in order to fix its identity. We tentatively assign it to the mangeliid genus Bela Leach, 1847, thus establishing Bela pata-gonica (d’Orbigny, 1841) comb. nov. Eleven species of Bela have been reported from Argentine waters; however, all of them have been reclassified into other genera and even other families. Despite the appar-ent geographic distance of B. patagonica comb. nov. from other species of this genus, this taxonomic placement of this species seems most appropriate and emphasizes shell characters until molecular data become available.Fil: Sánchez, Noelia Carolina. Get PDF

We also thank all projects for financial support. The proton transfer between equimolar amounts of [Cd(H2EDTA)(H2O)] and 2,6-diaminopurine (Hdap) yielded crystals of the out-of-sphere metal complex H2(N3,N7)dap [Cd(HEDTA)(H2O)]·H2O (1) that was studied by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetry, FT-IR spectroscopy, density functional theory (DFT) and quantum theory of “atoms-in-molecules” (QTAIM) methods. The crystal was mainly dominated by H-bonds, favored by the observed tautomer of the 2,6-diaminopurinium(1+) cation. Each chelate anion was H-bonded to three neighboring cations; two of them were also connected by a symmetry-related anti-parallel π,π-staking interaction. Our results are in clear contrast with that previously reported for H2(N1,N9)ade [Cu(HEDTA) (H2O)]·2H2O (EGOWIG in Cambridge Structural Database (CSD), Hade = adenine), in which H-bonds and π,π-stacking played relevant roles in the anion–cation interaction and the recognition between two pairs of ions, respectively. Factors contributing in such remarkable differences are discussed on the basis of the additional presence of the exocyclic 2-amino group in 2,6-diaminopurinium(1+) ion. This research was funded by the Excellence Network ‘Metal Ions in Biological Systems’ MetalBio CTQ2017-90802-REDT, the Research group FQM-283 (Junta de Andalucía) and MICIU/AEI of Spain (project CTQ2017-85821-R FEDER funds)

Characterization of CD34+ hematopoietic cells in systemic mastocytosis: Potential role in disease dissemination

[Background]: Recent studies show that most systemic mastocytosis (SM) patients, including indolent SM (ISM) with (ISMs+) and without skin lesions (ISMs−), carry the KIT D816V mutation in PB leukocytes. We investigated the potential association between the degree of involvement of BM hematopoiesis by the KIT D816V mutation and the distribution of different maturation-associated compartments of bone marrow (BM) and peripheral blood (PB) CD34+ hematopoietic precursors (HPC) in ISM and identified the specific PB cell compartments that carry this mutation. [Methods]: The distribution of different maturation-associated subsets of BM and PB CD34+ HPC from 64 newly diagnosed (KIT-mutated) ISM patients and 14 healthy controls was analyzed by flow cytometry. In 18 patients, distinct FACS-purified PB cell compartments were also investigated for the KIT mutation. [Results]: ISM patients showed higher percentages of both BM and PB MC-committed CD34+ HPC vs controls, particularly among ISM cases with MC-restricted KIT mutation (ISMMC); this was associated with progressive blockade of maturation of CD34+ HPC to the neutrophil lineage from ISMMC to multilineage KIT-mutated cases (ISMML). Regarding the frequency of KIT-mutated cases and cell populations in PB, variable patterns were observed, the percentage of KIT-mutated PB CD34+ HPC, eosinophils, neutrophils, monocytes and T cells increasing from ISMs−MC and ISMs+MC to ISMML patients. [Conclusion]: The presence of the KIT D816V mutation in PB of ISM patients is associated with (early) involvement of circulating CD34+ HPC and multiple myeloid cell subpopulations, KIT-mutated PB CD34+ HPC potentially contributing to early dissemination of the disease. This work was supported by Fondo de Investigaciones Sanitarias—FIS—of the Instituto de Salud Carlos III, Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad, Madrid, Spain (grant numbers PI11/02399 and PI16/00642, FEDER); Consejería de Educación (Regional Government of Castilla y León, Spain; grant number SA013U16); Biomedical Research Networking Centre Consortium–CIBER-CIBERONC (CB16/12/00400) of the Instituto de Salud Carlos III, Madrid, Spain; and Fundacion Ramon Areces, Madrid, Spain (grant CIVP16A1806). Chronic treatment with somatostatin analogues in recurrent type 1 gastric neuroendocrine tumors

Background: Type 1 gastric neuroendocrine tumors (GC-1) represent an uncommon subtype of neoplasms. Endoscopic resection has been proposed as the treatment of choice; active surveillance may be performed in those smaller than 1 cm, while gastric surgery may be performed for those with frequent recurrences. The antiproliferative effect of somatostatin analogues (SSA) is well known, and their action on GC-1s has been postulated as a chronic treatment to reduce recurrence. Methods: A two-centered, retrospective, observational study that included nine patients (55.6% women) diagnosed with GC-1, receiving long-term treatment with SSA, with a median follow-up from baseline of 22 months, was undertaken. Endoscopic follow-up, extension study, and analytical values of chromogranin A (Cg A) and gastrin were collected. Results: In total, 88.9% of patients presented partial or complete response. Treatment with SSA was the only independent factor with a trend to prevent tumor recurrence (Odds Ratio 0.054; p = 0.005). A nonsignificant tendency toward a decrease in CgA and gastrin was observed; lack of significance was probably related to concomitant treatment with proton pump inhibitors in some patients. Conclusions: Chronic treatment with SSA is a feasible option for recurrent GC-1s that are difficult to manage using endoscopy or gastrectomy. Randomized clinical trials to provide more scientific evidence are still neede

A Telehealth-Based Cognitive-Adaptive Training (e-OTCAT) to Prevent Cancer and Chemotherapy-Related Cognitive Impairment in Women with Breast Cancer: Protocol for a Randomized Controlled Trial

    Get PDF
Background: Many women with breast cancer experience a great number of side effects, such as cognitive impairment, during and after chemotherapy that reduces their quality of life. Currently, research focusing on the use of non-pharmacological, and specifically telehealth interventions to prevent or mitigate them has been insufficient. Methods: This protocol describes a randomized controlled trial aimed at studying the preventive effects of a videoconferenced cognitive-adaptive training (e-OTCAT) program (ClinicalTrials.gov NCT04783402). A number of 98 eligible participants will be randomized to one of the following groups: (a) the experimental group receiving the e-OTCAT program during 12 consecutive weeks since the beginning of chemotherapy; and (b) the control group receiving and educational handbook and usual care. The primary outcome will be the cognitive function. Secondary measures will be psychological distress, fatigue, sleep disturbance, quality of life and occupational performance. The time-points for these measures will be placed at baseline, after 12 weeks and six months of post-randomization. Conclusion: This trial may support the inclusion of multidimensional interventions through a telehealth approach in a worldwide growing population suffering from breast cancer, emphasizing the prevention of cognitive impairment as one of the side effects of cancer and its treatments.Spanish Government FPU17/00939 FPU18/03575Instituto de Salud Carlos III FI19/0023

Growing up in the deep-sea protected development in deep-sea invertebrates: A case study in the southwestern Atlantic Ocean

    Get PDF
Marine invertebrates display a range of reproductive strategies, from external fertilization to several methods to protect the young. Both brooding or protected development of benthic species and direct development species (when juveniles born in a smaller version of its adult form) involves reducing the time that the larvae and/or juveniles spend in the plankton. The different forms of juvenile protection are often associated with the taxonomic group, although certain groups are much diversified in terms of their reproductive modes. However, the area where the species live also seems to play a key role. Several authors have indicated the unusual proportion of brooding species in the Southern Ocean, in particular in the southwestern Atlantic, including its adjacent deep-sea. The knowledge about the reproductive characteristics of most of the fauna in this area remains unknown. Proof of this are the great number of studies carried out in recent years, describing the reproductive features of several species (many also new), with some of them having many peculiarities about their biology.Fil: Teso, Silvia Valeria. IEC is supported by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness. This study was part of a Ph.D thesis conducted in the Clinical Medicine and Public Health Doctoral Studies of the University of Granada, Spain. Trial registration: ClinicalTrials. Gov identifier: NCT04583124.A current challenge in breast cancer (BC) patients is how to reduce the side effects of cancer and cancer treatments and prevent a decrease in quality of life (QoL). Neurotoxic side effects, especially from chemotherapy, are present in up to 75% of women with BC, which implies a large impact on QoL. There is a special interest in the preventive possibilities of therapeutic exercise (TE) for these neurological sequelae, and the benefits of TE could be improved when it is combined with vagal activation techniques (VATs). This superiority randomized controlled trial aims to examine the feasibility and efficacy of an 8-week multimodal intervention (ATENTO) based on moderate-vigorous intensity and individualized TE (aerobic and strength exercises) and VAT (myofascial and breathing exercises), on neurotoxicity prevention in women with BC before starting adjuvant chemotherapy (ATENTO-B) versus throughout adjuvant chemotherapy (ATENTO-T). A sample of 56 women newly diagnosed with BC, as calculated with a power of 85%, will be randomly allocated into these two groups. This study could provide an impetus for the introduction of early multimodal intervention methods to prevent neurotoxicity and consequently avoid the QoL deterioration that BC patients presently suffer throughout their treatments.Fundacion Cientifica Asociacion Espanola Contra el Cancer IDEAS19055CANTSpanish Ministry of Education Culture and Sport FPU17/00939 FPU18/03575Instituto de Salud Carlos III FI19/00230 PI18/01840Fondos Estructurales de la Union Europea (FEDER) PI18/01840Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitivenes
