The SaPPART COST Action: Towards Positioning Integrity for Road Transport

    Get PDF
Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) is becoming one of the main components supporting Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) and value-added services in road transport and personal mobility. The use of GNSS is expected to grow significantly due to improvements in positioning performance, with positive impacts such as: finding the optimal route; improving traffic and travel efficiency as well as safety and security; reducing congestion and optimizing fuel consumption. The deployment of mission critical applications needs high reliability in the positioning information. However, the positioning reliability is not easy to achieve because of the heterogeneous quality of the GNSS signal, which is highly influenced by the road environment and the operational scenario of the application. It is important to understand the requirements and performance GNSS can achieve for various road transport applications. This paper is presenting the SaPPART COST Action on the Satellite Positioning Performance Assessment for Road Transport. It introduces the goal and the framework of the Action with the research programme and some related activities dedicated to dissemination and supporting standardisation working groups

TiivistelmĂ€. TĂ€ssĂ€ kandidaatintutkielmassa tarkoituksena on tutkia varhaiskasvatusikĂ€isten lasten tunnetaitoja ja miten niitĂ€ voidaan tukea Fanni-kirjasarjan avulla. Tutkimuskysymykseni oli “Miten 4–6-vuotiaan tunnetaitoja voidaan tukea Fanni-kirjasarjan avulla?“ Tutkimus on toteutettu kuvailevana kirjallisuuskatsauksena. Teoreettinen viitekehys rakentuu sekĂ€ suomen- ettĂ€ englanninkielisistĂ€ teoksista. ViitekehyksessĂ€ mÀÀrittelen lapsen tunteiden kehittymistĂ€ vastasyntyneestĂ€ alkaen, tunnetaitoja, tunnekasvatusta ja aikuisen roolia lapsen tunnekasvatuksessa sekĂ€ ongelmia tunnetaidoissa. Fanni-kirjasarjasta analysoin kolmea ensimmĂ€istĂ€ kirjaa. Analysoin kirjasarjaa vapaasti peilaten teoreettiseen viitekehykseen. Tarve pienten lasten tunnekasvatukselle on lisÀÀntyvĂ€. Tunnetaitojen tukeminen vaatii aikuiselta tietoista panostusta ja aiheeseen perehtymistĂ€. TĂ€mĂ€n tutkielman tavoitteena on tarjota tietoa tunnetaitojen tĂ€rkeydestĂ€ lapsen elĂ€mĂ€ssĂ€ sekĂ€ tuoda esille yhtĂ€ mahdollista tunnetaitojen tukemiseen sopivaa kirjasarjaa: Fanni-kirjasarjaa. Tutkimustulosten perusteella tunnetaidot ovat monimutkainen asia, jonka toimintaa ei tĂ€ysin osata selittÀÀ. Kulttuuri vaikuttaa siihen, miten ymmĂ€rrĂ€mme tunteita. Lapsen tunnetaitojen kehittymiselle on tĂ€rkeÀÀ aitous, rehellisyys, aikuisen roolimalli sekĂ€ aikuisen lĂ€snĂ€olo. Lapsi tarvitsee tilaa ja aikaa tunteilleen. Fanni-kirjasarja tukee lasta oppimaan tunnetaitojen peruspilareita: tunteiden tunnistamista ja nimeĂ€mistĂ€, tunteiden sÀÀtelyĂ€ sekĂ€ stressinhallintaa. Kirjasarja tukee nĂ€itĂ€ taitoja tarinan, tieto-osuuden ja tehtĂ€vien avulla

Cooperative environment recognition utilizing UWB waveforms and CNNs

    Get PDF
Cooperative navigation enhances localization performance and situational awareness in challenging conditions, such as in tactical and first responder operations. In this work we demonstrate how the waveform of the Ultra Wideband (UWB) signal used for ranging in cooperative navigation can also be used to detect the environment surrounding the user of the navigation system. Different environments affect the wave-form in different ways, and thus the received waveform contains features characteristic to the environment around the receiver. We show how the received UWB signal waveform can be used in a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) in order to determine whether the user is outdoors, indoors or in a forest. The environment is recognized correctly more than 90% of the time. © 2020 German Institute of Navigation - DGON.Peer reviewe

Adenoviral Gene Transfer Restores Lysyl Hydroxylase Activity in Type VI Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome

    Get PDF
Type VI Ehlers-Danlos syndrome is a disease characterized by disturbed lysine hydroxylation of collagen. The disease is caused by mutations in lysyl hydroxylase 1 gene and it affects several organs including the cardiovascular system, the joint and musculoskeletal system, and the skin. The skin of type VI Ehlers-Danlos syndrome patients is hyperelastic, scars easily, and heals slowly and poorly. We hypothesized that providing functional lysyl hydroxylase 1 gene to the fibroblasts in and around wounds in these patients would improve healing. In this study we tested the feasibility of transfer of the lysyl hydroxylase 1 gene into fibroblasts derived from rats and a type VI Ehlers-Danlos syndrome patient (in vitro) and into rat skin (in vivo). We first cloned human lysyl hydroxylase 1 cDNA into a recombinant adenoviral vector (Ad5RSV-LH). Transfection of human type VI Ehlers-Danlos syndrome fibroblasts (about 20% of normal lysyl hydroxylase 1 activity) with the vector increased lysyl hydroxylase 1 activity in these cells to near or greater levels than that of wild type, unaffected fibroblasts. The adenoviral vector successfully transfected rat fibroblasts producing both ÎČ-galactosidase and lysyl hydroxylase 1 gene activity. We next expanded our studies to a rodent model. Intradermal injections of the vector to the abdominal skin of rats produced lysyl hydroxylase 1 mRNA and elevated lysyl hydroxylase 1 activity, in vivo. These data suggest the feasibility of gene replacement therapy to modify skin wound healing in type VI Ehlers-Danlos syndrome patients

    Get PDF
This paper presents the key assumptions and preliminary research on an integrated system called ESABALT, for enhancing maritime safety, which incorporates the latest technological advances in positioning, e-Navigation, Earth observation systems and multi-channel cooperative communications. The most novel part of the ESABALT concept, however, is a focus on user-driven crowdsourcing techniques for information gathering and integration. The system will consist of a situational awareness solution for real-time maritime traffic monitoring via utilizing various positioning technologies; an observation system of the marine environment relevant to transportation and accidents including assessing the sea ice, oil spread, waves, wind etc.; and a methodology for context-aware maritime communication with cooperative, multi-channel capabilities. The paper presents the intelligent, novel, user-driven solution and associated services developed in ESABALT for enhancing the maritime safety in the whole Baltic area

Varhaiskasvatusta vai -sÀilytystÀ?:varhaiskasvatuksen laatu varhaiskasvatuslain ja opettajien työn nÀkökulmasta

TiivistelmÀ. Tutkielmamme aiheena olivat varhaiskasvatuksen laatutekijÀt varhaiskasvatuslain (540/2018) ja opettajan nÀkökulmasta. Kiinnostuimme aiheesta varhaiskasvatusta koskevan yhteiskunnallisen keskustelun ja omien kokemustemme myötÀ; varhaiskasvatus ei aina yllÀ tavoitteisiinsa ja varhaiskasvatuksen opettajista on pulaa monessa paikassa. Kuitenkin samaan aikaan tiedostetaan laadukkaan varhaiskasvatuksen merkitys lasten hyvinvointia ja oppimista edistÀvÀnÀ tekijÀnÀ. Kyselymme kohdistettiin varhaiskasvatuksen opettajille, koska he ovat vastuussa ryhmÀn toteuttamasta pedagogiikasta. Tavoitteenamme oli selvittÀÀ varhaiskasvatuksen opettajana toimivien ajatuksia varhaiskasvatuslain edellyttÀmÀstÀ laadukkaan varhaiskasvatuksen toteutumisesta. Tutkimuskysymykset olivat: 1. MitkÀ laatutekijÀt vaikuttavat varhaiskasvatuslain tavoitteiden toteutumiseen varhaiskasvatuksen opettajan työssÀ? 2. MitkÀ tekijÀt edistÀvÀt tai estÀvÀt varhaiskasvatuslain tavoitteiden toteutumista varhaiskasvatuksen opettajan työssÀ? Varhaiskasvatuksen laatu on kaikkien osatekijöidensÀ summa. TÀmÀn takia tutkielmamme on sidottu suomalaiseen tÀmÀnhetkiseen varhaiskasvatukseen. Varhaiskasvatuksen laatua on selvittÀnyt aikaisemmin kattavasti kansallinen koulutuksen arviointikeskus (Karvi, 2018), joka on luonut varhaiskasvatukselle laatuindikaattorit. Toteutimme tutkielman laadullisena kyselytutkimuksena, jonka aineiston analysoimme teoriaohjaavalla aineistoanalyysilla. Analyysia ohjaavana teoriana toimivat varhaiskasvatuksen laatuindikaattorit. Kyselyyn vastasi 31 opettajana toimivaa, joista 21 tÀytti varhaiskasvatuksen opettajan kelpoisuusvaatimukset.

Parametric hazard rate models for long-term sickness absence

    Get PDF
PURPOSE: In research on the time to onset of sickness absence and the duration of sickness absence episodes, Cox proportional hazard models are in common use. However, parametric models are to be preferred when time in itself is considered as independent variable. This study compares parametric hazard rate models for the onset of long-term sickness absence and return to work. METHOD: Prospective cohort study on sickness absence with four follow-up years of 53,830 employees working in the private sector in the Netherlands. The time to onset of long-term (>6 weeks) sickness absence and return to work were modelled by parametric hazard rate models. RESULTS: The exponential parametric model with a constant hazard rate most accurately described the time to onset of long-term sickness absence. Gompertz-Makeham models with monotonically declining hazard rates best described return to work. CONCLUSIONS: Parametric models offer more possibilities than commonly used models for time-dependent processes as sickness absence and return to work. However, the advantages of parametric models above Cox models apply mainly for return to work and less for onset of long-term sickness absence

First observation of excited states in 173Hg

The neutron-deficient nucleus 173Hg has been studied following fusion-evaporation reactions. The observation of gamma rays decaying from excited states are reported for the first time and a tentative level scheme is proposed. The proposed level scheme is discussed within the context of the systematics of neighbouring neutron-deficient Hg nuclei. In addition to the gamma-ray spectroscopy, the alpha decay of this nucleus has been measured yielding superior precision to earlier measurements.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figure
