A Novel Microwave Tunable Band-Pass Filter Integrated Power Divider Based on Liquid Crystal

Get PDF
This paper proposes a novel microwave continuous adjustable band-pass filter integrated power divider based on nematic liquid crystals (LCs). The proposed power divider uses liquid crystal (LC) as the dielectric material. It can realize phase shift by changing the dielectric anisotropy, when biasing the high anisotropy nematic liquid crystal. It is mainly used in microwave frequencies. It has a large number of advantages compared to conventional filter integrated power divider, such as low loss, multifunction integration, continuous adjustable, miniaturization, low processing costs, low operating voltage, high phase shift, and convenient manufacture. Therefore, it has shown great potential for application

Effect of Central Antileptin Antibody on the Onset of Female Rat Puberty

The effect of intracerebroventricular (ICV) antileptin antibody on the onset of puberty in the female rat and the relationship between serum leptin, luteinizing hormone (LH), and body weight were investigated. Antileptin antibody (group A) was infused ICV from days 23–36 in prepubertal female rats whereas the control (group B) received ICV goat immunoglobulin G (IgG). In the antileptin group, mean day of vaginal opening (VO) was postponed (day 34 versus day 30, P < .01 ). Body weight trended higher after 30 days in the antileptin group but not significantly. However, there was no difference in serum leptin and LH between the two groups on the day of VO. Serum leptin was relatively constant from day 23 through day 31 and did not correlate with LH (r = 0.14, P = .10). These studies demonstrate that central leptin promotes the onset of female rat puberty as evidenced by VO. Finally, central leptin impacts female rat pubertal onset in distinction from serum leptin and body weight

Novel mutations in ATP7B in Chinese patients with Wilson's disease and identification of kidney disorder of thinning of the glomerular basement membrane

Get PDF
IntroductionWilson's disease is an autosomal recessive disorder caused by ATP7B pathogenic mutations. The hallmark of this disorder mainly consists of liver involvement, neurologic dysfunction and psychiatric features. In addition, the kidneys can also be affected by excessive copper deposition.MethodsA total of 34 patients clinically diagnosed with WD were recruited. They underwent ATP7B gene sequencing and clinical data of symptoms, examination, and treatment were collected. Moreover, renal pathology information was also investigated.ResultsWe identified 25 potentially pathogenic ATP7B variants (16 missense, 5 frameshift, 3 splicing variants and 1 large deletion mutation) in these 34 WD patients, 5 of which were novel. In our cases, the most frequent variant was c.2333G>T (R778L, 39.06%, exon 8), followed by c.2621C>T (A874V, 10.94%, exon 11) and c.3316G>A (V1106I, 7.81%, exon 11). Furthermore, we described the thinning of the glomerular basement membrane as a rare pathologically damaging feature of Wilson's disease for the first time. Additionally, two patients who received liver transplant were observed with good prognosis in present study.DiscussionOur work expanded the spectrum of ATP7B variants and presented rare renal pathological feature in WD patients, which may facilitate the development of early diagnosis, counseling, treatment regimens of WD

Ti-substituted tunnel-type Na0.44MnO2 oxide as a negative electrode for aqueous sodium-ion batteries

Get PDF
The aqueous sodium-ion battery system is a safe and low-cost solution for large-scale energy storage, because of the abundance of sodium and inexpensive aqueous electrolytes. Although several positive electrode materials, for example, Na0.44MnO2, were proposed, few negative electrode materials, for example, activated carbon and NaTi2(PO4)(3), are available. Here we show that Ti-substituted Na0.44MnO2 (Na-0.44[Mn1-xTix] O-2) with tunnel structure can be used as a negative electrode material for aqueous sodium-ion batteries. This material exhibits superior cyclability even without the special treatment of oxygen removal from the aqueous solution. Atomic-scale characterizations based on spherical aberration-corrected electron microscopy and ab initio calculations are utilized to accurately identify the Ti substitution sites and sodium storage mechanism. Ti substitution tunes the charge ordering property and reaction pathway, significantly smoothing the discharge/ charge profiles and lowering the storage voltage. Both the fundamental understanding and practical demonstrations suggest that Na-0.44[Mn1-xTix]O-2 is a promising negative electrode material for aqueous sodium-ion batteries.

Homozygous p.Ser267Phe in SLC10A1 is associated with a new type of hypercholanemia and implications for personalized medicine.

SLC10A1 codes for the sodium-taurocholate cotransporting polypeptide (NTCP), which is a hepatocellular transporter for bile acids (BAs) and the receptor for hepatitis B and D viruses. NTCP is also a target of multiple drugs. We aimed to evaluate the medical consequences of the loss of function mutation p.Ser267Phe in SLC10A1. We identified eight individuals with homozygous p.Ser267Phe mutation in SLC10A1 and followed up for 8-90 months. We compared their total serum BAs and 6 species of BAs with 170 wild-type and 107 heterozygous healthy individuals. We performed in-depth medical examinations and exome sequencing in the homozygous individuals. All homozygous individuals had persistent hypercholanemia (P = 5.8 × 10-29). Exome sequencing excluded the involvement of other BA metabolism-associated genes in the hypercholanemia. Although asymptomatic, all individuals had low vitamin D levels. Of six adults that were subjected to bone mineral density analysis, three presented with osteoporosis/osteopenia. Sex hormones and blood lipids were deviated in all subjects. Homozygosity of p.Ser267Phe in SLC10A1 is associated with asymptomatic hypercholanemia. Individuals with homozygous p.Ser267Phe in SLC10A1 are prone to vitamin D deficiency, deviated sex hormones and blood lipids. Surveillance of these parameters may also be needed in patients treated with drugs targeting NTCP.This project is supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (31471193, 81570539, 81370535, 91331204 and 31525014). A Hybrid Wavelet de-noising and Rank-Set Pair Analysis approach for forecasting hydro-meteorological time series

Get PDF
Accurate, fast forecasting of hydro-meteorological time series is presently a major challenge in drought and flood mitigation. This paper proposes a hybrid approach, wavelet de-noising (WD) and Rank-Set Pair Analysis (RSPA), that takes full advantage of a combination of the two approaches to improve forecasts of hydro-meteorological time series. WD allows decomposition and reconstruction of a time series by the wavelet transform, and hence separation of the noise from the original series. RSPA, a more reliable and efficient version of Set Pair Analysis, is integrated with WD to form the hybrid WD-RSPA approach. Two types of hydro-meteorological data sets with different characteristics and different levels of human influences at some representative stations are used to illustrate the WD-RSPA approach. The approach is also compared to three other generic methods: the conventional Auto Regressive Integrated Moving Average (ARIMA) method, Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) (BP-error Back Propagation, MLP-Multilayer Perceptron and RBF-Radial Basis Function), and RSPA alone. Nine error metrics are used to evaluate the model performance. Compared to three other generic methods, the results generated by WD-REPA model presented invariably smaller error measures which means the forecasting capability of the WD-REPA model is better than other models. The results show that WD-RSPA is accurate, feasible, and effective. In particular, WD-RSPA is found to be the best among the various generic methods compared in this paper, even when the extreme events are included within a time series
