In this study analyzes about the relationship of language and power in a speech text Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok) that are read when the January 20, 2016. The method used in this study is a critical discourse analysis model of Norman Fairclough. Norman Fairclouch formulate, discourse shapes and is shaped by society. Second, the discourse helps shape and change its objects and their knowledge, social relations, and social identity. Third, the discourse shaped by power relations and related ideologies. Fourth, the establishment of discourse marks a tug power. This study aims describes about Ahok political communication style, and claims success in his statements. The results showed that through a political speech, Ahok have a high success rate, low context communication style. However, Ahok communication style failed to create a communicative process of communication, due to a number of communication distorsi

Knowledge Transfer in the Precommercialization Phase of a New Industry: Star Scientists’ (im)Mobility in the Presence of a Potential Lead User

We extend prior research on industry evolution by focusing attention to knowledge transfer in the precommercialization phase of a new industry. Specifically, we build on research that highlights the role of star scientists’ mobility as a mechanism of knowledge transfer to mitigate technological uncertainty and the role of potential lead users as the mechanism for knowledge transfer to reduce demand uncertainty. Using the image sensor industry's precommercialization phase as our context, we find that the star scientists of Texas Instruments, Tektronix, Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Bell Laboratories, and other organizations were largely immobile, that is, rooted to the same organization. Our article not only uncovers the role of star scientists’ mobility and the potential lead user as complementary mechanisms of knowledge transfer, but also highlights the boundary condition of the benefits of star scientists’ mobility in the precommercialization phase of a new industry

    Towards resilient supply chain networks

In the past decade, events like 9/11 terror attacks, the recent financial crisis and other major crisis has proved that there is strong interaction and interdependency of a supply chain network with its external environments in various channels and thus a need to focus on building resiliency (in short, the ability of the system to recover from damage or disruption) of the entire network system. Although literature has discussed some way of improving resiliency of an individual firm which is a member of the network system, it lacked to capture a holistic view of the supply chain network. Pertaining to this observation, this work proposes to improve resiliency of a supply chain network from a system’s perspective rather concentrate on an individual firm. For this purpose, this thesis proposes a conceptual framework to promote early identification and timely information of the disruptions arising in a supply chain network and timely sharing of this information among all the members of the network. The key principle emphasized in this thesis is that recovery from an inevitable disruption has a better possibility if a member of the supply chain network has an early indication or knowledge of the upcoming disruption. A discrete event dynamic system simulation tool called Petri nets is utilized to realize the proposed conceptual framework. Furthermore, the practical benefits and implications of the proposed model and tool are demonstrated with help of two case studies. This thesis has several contributions to the field of operation management and supply chain. First, a new paradigm for supply chain management to avoid large scale failures such as financial crisis is available to the field, which may be applied by governments or regulatory bodies. Second, a new framework which allows for a quantitative analysis of failures of an entire supply chain network is available to the field, which is easy to be used. Third, a novel application of Petri nets to this new problem in supply chain management is available

Synthesis and Characterization of Host Guest Inclusion Complexes of Cyclodextrin Molecules with Theophylline by Diverse Methodologies

    Get PDF
Steady host–guest inclusion complexes have been produced with medicinally important guest molecule theophylline within aqueous α-Cyclodextrin and HP-ÎČ-Cyclodextrin. α-and HP-ÎČ-Cyclodextrins have been established with favorable structural features for inclusion with Theophylline which include diversified applications in modern science such as controlled delivery in the field of pharmaceuticals, food processing, pesticides, foodstuffs etc. Theophylline is one of the most widely accepted drugs for the treatment of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) worldwide, even if it has been used clinically for many years. With both α and HP-ÎČ-Cyclodextrins it is found that 1:1 hosts-guest inclusion complexes are formed with the guest molecule theophylline. The construction and quality of the inclusion complexes have been characterized by using conductivity measurement, surface tension study, and Job’s method. The inclusion phenomenon has been confirmed by FTIR spectroscopy, proton NMR study. Association constants and thermodynamic parameters have been evaluated for the created inclusion complexes by ultraviolet spectroscopy

Disruption Lies in the Eyes of the Beholder: Firm Capabilities and Endogeneity of Technological Disruption

    Get PDF
Failure of leading firms to respond to disruptive technological changes has been explained in terms of their “choices.” I investigate the disruptive technological changes in the global industrial robotics industry and suggest that ‘ability’ of the firms play an important role in determining their survival chances. This paper suggests that what may be disruptive (or a sustaining) change may also be a competence-destroying (or a competence-enhancing) change for a firm. Hence, survival during a disruptive change is endogenous to the firm's component and architectural capabilities

A comparative study of moxifloxacin versus combination of doxycycline and metronidazole for treatment of uncomplicated pelvic inflammatory disease

    Get PDF
Background: Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), a common condition among women of reproductive age caused by various aerobic and anaerobic organisms, may sometimes lead to complications like infertility, ectopic pregnancy and chronic pelvic pain. Moxifloxacin is a broad spectrum bactericidal antibiotic acting against many gram positive, gram negative aerobic organisms and anaerobes. Rapid absorption and high bioavailability allow single daily dosing and improves compliance. The present study was done to compare the clinical and microbiological outcomes in  PID patients treated with conventional doxycycline- metronidazole  and moxifloxacin therapy. Methods: Women with uncomplicated PID, randomized into two groups either received 400 mg single dose of moxifloxacin daily for 14 days (group A) or doxycycline 100 mg + metronidazole 500 mg twice daily for 14 days (group B). Temperature, TLC count, ESR, CRP, microbiological assessment, Visual analogue score for pain, vaginal discharge, dyspareunia and backache were noted. The bacteriological cure was assessed by high vaginal swab for organism identification by gram stain, 10% KOH and blood sample by ELISA.Results: Total 60 women were enrolled and randomized into two groups. There was significant reduction of CRP and improved TLC in the moxifloxacin treated group. Visual analogue scores for pain, vaginal discharge and malaise were significantly reduced in the group treated with moxifloxacin.  Nausea, vomiting, metallic taste, dyspepsia and diarrhoea were complained by a significant number of patients of doxycycline + metronidazole group, in contrast to the patients receiving moxifloxacin. Conclusions: Moxifloxacin 400 mg once daily, is effective and safe for treatment of PID

(2019), Fearlessly Swimming Upstream to Risky Waters: The Role of Geographic Entry in Innovation. Jour. of Manage. This article may be used for non-commercial purposes in accordance with Wiley Terms and Conditions for Use of Self-Archived Versions. We examine the puzzling geographic pattern that shows firms entering countries with weak intellectual property rights (IPR) protection with their research and development (R&D) activities. Geographic entry into weak IPR protection countries is at odds with conventional wisdom as such an environment erodes a firm's ability to appropriate from its innovations. We offer that while the well‐established practice of spreading out a firm's value chain activities across a region has important implications for value creation, what remains unaddressed is the value appropriation aspect of such activities. We introduce a multilevel theory and maintain that operating regionally through commercialization activities (downstream activities) provides complementary assets to the upstream activities – specifically R&D activities in a country within that region – with which focal firms can appropriate more from their innovations. We find that regional downstream commercialization activities can substitute for weak IPR regimes, thereby providing firms with an alternative mechanism for protecting their intellectual property in weak IPR countries
