How is your mind-set? Proof of concept for the measurement of the level of emotional development

Background In persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities, not only cognitive brain functions, but also socio-emotional processing networks may be impaired. This study aims to validate the Scale of Emotional Development—Short (SED-S) to provide an instrument for the assessment of socio-emotional brain functions. Method The SED-S was applied in 160 children aged 0–12 years. Criterion validity was investigated at item and scale level in terms of the agreement between the scale classification and the child’s chronological age. Additionally, interrater reliability and internal consistency were assessed. Results For the majority of items, the expected response pattern emerged, showing the highest response probabilities in the respective target age groups. Agreement between the classification of the different SED-S domains and chronological age was high (κw = 0.95; exact agreement = 80.6%). Interrater reliability at domain level ranged from κw = .98 to 1.00 and internal consistency was high (α = .99). Conclusion The study normed the SED-S in a sample of typically developing children and provides evidence for criterion validity on item, domain and scale level

Afterpulse Measurements of R7081 Photomultipliers for the Double Chooz Experiment

We present the results of afterpulse measurements performed as qualification test for 473 inner detector photomultipliers of the Double Chooz experiment. The measurements include the determination of a total afterpulse occurrence probability as well as an average time distribution of these pulses. Additionally, more detailed measurements with different light sources and simultaneous charge and timing measurements were performed with a few photomultipliers to allow a more detailed understanding of the effect. The results of all measurements are presented and discussed

The Role of Cultural Fit in the Adoption of Fashionable IT: A Blockchain Case Study

    Get PDF
Investments in fashionable IT do not make organizations more successful than investments in less fashionable alternatives. Many organizations nevertheless associate with fashionable IT to signal compliance with norms of progress and rationality. These decisions can be risky as they require the ability to navigate hype narratives and fit the new technology into the adopting organization. In this paper, we explore a so far understudied fit perspective: cultural fit between the values attributed to the fashionable IT and those of the recipient organizational context. Through an interpretivist case study of two blockchain projects, we find that cultural sensemaking and dissonance reduction can be important determinants for successful adoption of fashionable IT. Moreover, we identify two recursive paths for how organizations can reduce cultural dissonance. They can adapt their implementation and the narratives surrounding the fashionable IT or they can transform their local or overarching organizational culture

Analyzing Source-Routed Approaches for Low Earth Orbit Satellite Constellation Networks

    Get PDF
Source-routing is a commonly applied routing solution to space-based communication networks. Despite its simplicity and flexibility, the approach has known disadvantages like the creation of hot spots and inefficient link load acquisition. However, the actual performance of source-routing depends significantly on its specific implementation and the reference system. For this reason, we analyze the performance of different source-routing schemes in a realistic scenario using a system-level simulator. Most importantly, we want to quantify the impact of using the inherent path diversity of constellation networks with inter-satellite links more effectively. To this end, we compare the QoS compliance between a shortest-path-first path selection based on latency and a random path selection from a set of minimum hop routes. Additionally, we investigate the impact of uniform and population-based user terminal distributions

Tilting refractive x-ray lenses for fine-tuning their focal length

In this work, we measure and model tilted x-ray refractive lenses to investigate their effects on an x-ray beam. The modelling is benchmarked against at-wavelength metrology obtained with x-ray speckle vector tracking experiments (XSVT) at the BM05 beamline at the ESRF-EBS light source, showing very good agreement. This validation permits us to explore possible applications of tilted x-ray lenses in optical design: we demonstrate that tilting 1D lenses around their focusing direction can be used for fine-tuning their focal length with possible applications in beamline optical design.Comment: 15 pages, 13 figures, 38 references to be submitted to Optics Expres
