Marxist Feminism: An Analysis on Class Structure and Position of Women in Malayalam movie -“Chemmeen”
The Malayalam film industry, prominently known as “Mollywood,” is one of the fast-changing faces in Indian cinema. This paper tries to examine one of the Malayalam movies, Chemeen, through the lens of Marxist Feminism. The primary text chosen for the study is the movie, Chemeen, an adaptation of Thakazhi Sivasankara Pillai’s novel with the same name. The story revolves around the lives of Karuthamma and Pareekutt, lovers whose life cannot be led together because of the strong influence of caste and class in their society. This is one of the liberal texts in Malayalam Literature narrating the Kerala fishing community’s lives, customs, traditions, and beliefs. The research paper’s primary focus will be on society’s hierarchy through the reflection of Mollywood cinema, the stereotyping of certain characters based on their class and caste, the aftermath of marriage, and the domineering male-centric society female fellowships through deities
Examining The Malleability Of Cigarette Product Preference
Introduction: Cigarette preference increases as a function of nicotine content, but preference can be shifted by manipulating cigarette cost. The aim of the present study is to model whether the behavioral-economic metric of unit price (cigarette cost/nicotine content) accounts for cigarette preference shifts and whether preference changes to very low nicotine content cigarettes (VLNCs) are associated with corresponding changes in smoking rate.
Methods: 169 daily smokers from populations vulnerable to smoking completed sessions in which choices between smoking normal nicotine content (NNC) (15.8mg/g) and VLNC (0.4mg/g) cigarettes were concurrently available. In Condition 1, choices for both products were available ad-lib at an equal cost of 10 responses/choice. In Condition 2, VLNCs were again available ad-lib at 10 responses/choice, but NNCs were available on a progressive-ratio (PR) schedule wherein response cost (and unit price) increased following each NNC choice (10,160,320…8400 responses/choice). Results were analyzed using ANOVAs and a binomial test (p\u3c.05).
Results: Participants preferred NNCs over VLNCs in Condition 1, but shifted preference to VLNCs in Condition 2 (p\u3c.001) immediately before the point in the PR progression where unit price for NNCs exceeded unit price for VLNCs (p\u3c.001). Additionally, this preference shift corresponded with reduced total cigarette consumption compared to Condition 1 levels (p\u3c.001).
Conclusions: These results suggest that unit price of nicotine underpins cigarette preference and may provide a metric by which regulators can predict product preference and potentially impact it through policy. These results also demonstrate that VLNCs sustain lower smoking rates than NNCs even under acute laboratory conditions
Characteristic frequency of the magnetic radiation of spinor condensates
The magnetic radiation of the fully-condensed states of Na condensates
have been studied. A narrow characteristic spectral line with a wave length
proportional to N^(-2/5) (N is the number of particles) and with a probability
of transition proportional to N^(17/5) emitted (absorbed) by the condensate was
found. It implies that short wave radiation with a huge probability of
transition can be obtained if numerous atoms are trapped. A new technique
developed by the authors, namely, the analytical forms of the fractional
parentage coefficients, was used to calculate analytically the matrix elements

Student-Centered Discussion in Racial Justice Courses
This article explores whether student-centered discussion is an effective pedagogical method to create a sanctuary type of environment in racial justice courses. Although studies abound about race in university classrooms, none assess the impact of a cross-racial faculty team (Black and White) co-teaching a racial justice course that utilizes a student-centered discussion model. Thus, we build on critical race education scholarship’s insights to examine the impact of a student-centered discussion (SCD) model with a cross-racial faculty team co-teaching a racial justice course. Our data come from a two-year interpretive study that included direct observation and content analysis to examine whether student-centered learning is an effective pedagogical method for teaching racial justice courses. While we employed the Interactivity Foundation’s SCD model, our findings provide insights about general advantages and disadvantages of student-centered learning in racial justice courses. We conclude the SCD process both detracts from and contributes to the creation of a sanctuary classroom environment. This is complicated because what some White students found to be a sanctuary space was simultaneously a threatening space for Students of Color, particularly due to repeat racial microaggressions. Nevertheless, an SCD process can be beneficial if course structure purposefully decenters a White-centric curricular and pedagogical lens

U.S. Gun Violence in 2021: An Accounting of a Public Health Crisis
Each year it is our mission to provide policymakers and the public accurate and up-to date data on gun fatalities and illustrate the enormous toll gun violence has on our country. This report is an update of "A Year in Review: 2020 Gun Deaths in the U.S." It uses 2021 firearm fatality data released by the CDC in January 2023.We recognize that each data point discussed in this report is a person who died by gun violence. This loss has an immeasurable impact on families, friends, and communities; data can only partly illuminate the true burden of gun violence. In addition to analyzing the data, we must listen to and uplift the voices of those directly impacted by gun violence, their loved ones, and their communities.Yet even on its own, the 2021 CDC data paints an alarming picture of the epidemic of gun violence. It illustrates how people from all walks of life are impacted. These deaths, and the associated pain and suffering, can be prevented. By leveraging the data outlined in this report, we can improve gun violence prevention strategies and create a more peaceful future, free from gun violence
Converting Faculty Performance Evaluations Into Merit Raises: A Spreadsheet Model
One of the most important, yet difficult tasks of any academic department chairperson is to evaluate the annual performance of individual faculty members and then to convert the array of performance evaluations into a structure of merit raises. Building on previous literature, this paper presents a spreadsheet model to convert qualitative performance evaluations into merit raises subject to 1) a limited pool of funds for salary adjustments and 2) a requirement that the relative structure of percentage raises match the relative structure of performance evaluations as defined by a linear evaluation scale. The contribution of the paper is its practical nature in that the proposed spreadsheet can immediately be put to use by academic chairpersons, is readily understandable by the faculty, and is useful for all institutions with various combinations of teaching, research, and service expectations for the faculty. To match the structure of raises with that of performance evaluations, qualitative evaluations in each of the three areas of faculty performance—teaching, research, and service—are first converted into numeric equivalents based on a linear evaluation key. Next, the numeric equivalents are weighted according to a weighting scheme dependent on the amount of release time provided to the faculty member for research and/or service, in order to generate an overall numeric evaluation for each faculty member. Finally, the weighted numeric evaluations are converted into percentage merit raises subject to a finite salary adjustment pool using the Goal Seek function in Microsoft Excel. The model is illustrated using a hypothetical department of ten faculty members with varying teaching loads and thus different amounts of release time for research and/or service.
