Combined Fertilizers Versus Dolomitic Limestone: A Comparative Study from a Forest Habitat with Norway Spruce

The research paper with character of case study deals with the influence of amelioration on soil as well as the Norway spruce nutrition and growth, with the focus on dolomitic limestone and combined fertilizer applications. The study was performed in the 7-year-old forest stand (Nízký Jeseník Mountains, Czech Republic, 100% Norway spruce, podzol, mor humus form, slightly undulated slope, 770m a.s.l.). The soil properties (soil reaction, nutrient status, C/N ratio and cation exchange capacity), the plant nutrition, the plant biomass production and the health status were measured. Neither the expected significant increase in pH due to liming in the root zone nor the increase in calcium and magnesium in the soil was confirmed. In the dolomitic limestone treatment, the highest hydrolytic acidity reaching 260 mmol+/kg, the worst development of assimilatory organs, the growth and health status of individuals were ascertained one year after the usage. The application of combined fertilizers resulted in the highest response in the needle biomass production (0.35 g/100 needles compared to less than 0.30 g/100 needles in the dolomitic limestone treatment), in the potassium and phosphorus nutrition status (suboptimal 4-4.5% of potassium in dolomitic limestone and the control treatment compared to optimal 5.5-7.5% in the combined fertilizers treatments) and simultaneously to the optimization of the health status. Specifically, in forest stands, the effect of dolomitic limestone is rather overestimated and furthermore, chemical amelioration requires the detailed knowledge of the forest site.O

Soil Microbial Functional Diversity under the Single-Season Influence of Traditional Forest Management in a Sessile Oak Forest of Central Europe

This one-year study focuses on the responses of a soil environment to the implementation of traditional forest management practices in oak-hornbeam stands with the following treatments: cut (C), cut + litter raking (CR), cut + grazing (CG), cut + litter raking + grazing (CRG) and control (Ctrl). The cut was conducted in 2018 through extremely heavy thinning. In autumn of 2017 and 2018, we sampled the soils, focusing on microbial functional diversity (FD) assessments using BIOLOG EcoplateTM. After one season, the FD was the highest in the Ctrl stand and the lowest in the CRG stand. Furthermore, we detected significant seasonal differences in soil reaction, nitrate nitrogen content, phosphatase activity and microbial biomass among the treatments. In particular, the Ctrl stand was defined via FD indices and biochemical and biological soil properties that contrasted mainly with those of the CRG stand defined by the content of mineral nitrogen forms. The soil properties did not differ substantially in the remaining treatments. Of the 31 carbon sources defining FD, 6 were treatment-specific (putrescine, L-arginine, L-serine, L-threonine, D-cellobiose and glycogen), while the remaining carbon sources mainly displayed either uniform high or low activity across the treatments.O

Jakub Popovický of Popovice and other students from the Czech Lands at the Wittenberg University

This diploma thesis deals with education in early modern period, especially at universities, which is related to the issue of grand tours. It is mainly focused on the Wittenberg University, where Jakub Popovický of Popovice studied and whose album amicorum is the subject of this thesis. One of the main goals is to introduce a group of friends, acquaintances and colleagues of Jakub Popovický who he met in Wittenberg or after his studies in Bohemia. In the edition of the Wittenberg University Register we will also search for other students from Bohemia and Moravia and we will try to gather information about them from various sources (for example from their alba amicorum, diaries or literature) to understand where they came from to Wittenberg, their social structure, their lives and subsequent careers

Rosíková Pavla Evaluation of activity of potentional antifungal substances through the use of microdilution broth method II Diploma thesis Charles University in Prague, Faculty of Pharmacy in Hradec Kralove Pharmacy The aim of this diploma thesis was testing of samples of substances produced at the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Drug Control and the Department of Inorganic and Organic Chemistry Faculty of Pharmacy of Charles University in Hradec Kralove. Substances were tested by using microdilution broth method. Testing was carried out on eight strains of yeasts and filamentous fungi: Candida albicans, Candida tropicalis, Candida krusei, Candida glabrata, Trichosporon beigelii, Aspergillus fumigatus, Absidia corymbifera, Trichophyton mentagrophytes. Total were tested 49 substances, which are divided into four groups according to their chemical structure. Derivatives pyrazin-2-carboxamide, 3-derivatives hydrazinopyrazin-2- carboxamide, 2-derivatives isonikotinoylhydrazinkarboxylate, benzoxazin derivatives. Group of derivatives pyrazin-2-carboxamide, which is substituted by low alkyl (-CH3) in the position 5 of pyrazin, and in which is nitrogen of amid group subtituted by the phenyl with electronegative group (-CF3,-F,-Cl,-OH) or with hydroxy group in position m, showed higher..

Soil Respiration of the Spruce Forest during Four Years after the Application of the Different Dolomitic Limestone Dosage

    No full text
The study focuses on an in situ response of soil respiration at 10 °C (R10) of the Norway spruce monoculture to the application of the different dolomitic limestone dosages (0, 2, 3, 4, 6, 9 a 26 t.ha-1) over a period of four years. Soil respiration was measured within the growing seasons 2016 – 2019. Moreover, the pH was determined in the H and Ah horizons during each season. The effect of liming on soil respiration was statistically significant during all the seasons except for 2017. The greatest effect was observed within the first season after liming. In May 2016, R10 in the limed plots increased as much as by 97% compared to the non-limed ones. However, soil respiration did not increase in the direct proportion to the liming intensity. We found out the correlation between soil respiration and the micrometeorological parameters (temperature and moisture) when both low temperature moisture limited soil respiration. Due to the strong soil buffering capacity, the small effect of liming on the soil acidity was observed in the first study season. In the following seasons, the differences in the pH among the plots with the different liming intensity started to increase, which was, however, observed only in the H horizon. The substantial increase in the soil microbial activity accompanied with faster respiration after liming can lead to the increased threat of rapid mineralization and the loss of soil organic matter with all its negative impact
