Beyond Hyper-capitalism: can the sharing economy reshape sustainable development?

In nowadays globalized world, highly interconnected by various kind of networks, first of all the social networks, a radical phenomenon is rapidly gaining momentum: that of the sharing economy. From the United States to the Eastern Europe, the phenomenon is becoming increasingly vast and increasingly discussed. Uber, Airbnb, HomeExchange, and so on are extending like wildfire. Even in Albania we start to see the first startups and the first experimentations. But what does this mean? Does represent an opportunity of development for the country? What are its critical issues? The work starts form the crisis of the hyper-capitalism and of the concept of ownership which is being replaced with that of a more fluid sharing. In this way, we will analyze the words and the concepts which lay at the basis of the sharing economy, influencing the effects this new way of acting and living has on the economies and on the socialization processes of the countries involved. In this perspective, we will also try to consider if and to what extent the sharing economy can be said to be a bearer of a reform of the sustainable development

In the light of Mayo’s definition of ‘praxis’ (Mayo, 2018) where it is posited that this involves a critical evaluation of a concept through the adoption of impartiality and consequently seeks to bring about change as necessary, this paper evaluates the results of a large scale quantitative survey with 1318 parents whose children attended Grade V - the penultimate class in the primary years’ educational cycle. The paper examines these respondents’ perceptions on current Maltese and English language practices in their children’s classrooms and presents what parents perceive as possible solutions towards an improvement in the quality of bilingual education experience for young learners.peer-reviewe

The reasons for this success are multiple but the most important is the tendency to faster exchanges and economic relationships both on the real and the financial market. This awareness made it essential to start the study from the crisis of the hyper-capitalism and of the concept of ownership which is being replaced with that of a more fluid sharing. in this way, we will analyze the words, the concepts and the values at the basis of the sharing economy which influence the effects this new way of acting and living has on the economies and on the socialization processes of the countries involved. Gendered devitalisations. A double reading of the “Vagina Dentata” motif in India

The motif of the “Vagina Dentata” appears in various Hindu myths and tales belonging to Indic folklore, yet its iconic relevance extends beyond symbolic and religious fields and overlaps with the wider sphere of the discourses on gender and sexuality. Based upon this premise, the paper aims to illustrate the motif of the “toothed vagina” on two interconnected levels: on the first one, it offers a psychoanalytical codification of the symbol and of the violence connected with the removal of the “teeth,” while on the second it scrutinises the “extirpation” in the light of the patriarchal endeavour to subjugate women through abuse and debasement. The concluding part of the paper advances a metaphorical suggestion around the “vagina dentata” symbol, pointing to the resources implied in the affirmation of women’s voices in the public domain

The Ricci flow in a class of solvmanifolds

In this paper, we study the Ricci flow of solvmanifolds whose Lie algebra has an abelian ideal of codimension one, by using the bracket flow. We prove that solutions to the Ricci flow are immortal, the omega-limit of bracket flow solutions is a single point, and that for any sequence of times there exists a subsequence in which the Ricci flow converges, in the pointed topology, to a manifold which is locally isometric to a flat manifold. We give a functional which is non-increasing along a normalized bracket flow that will allow us to prove that given a sequence of times, one can extract a subsequence converging to an algebraic soliton, and to determine which of these limits are flat. Finally, we use these results to prove that if a Lie group in this class admits a Riemannian metric of negative sectional curvature, then the curvature of any Ricci flow solution will become negative in finite time.Comment: 16 pages, 1 figur

Financial statement analysis of the steel industry (period 2013-2017)

The main objective of this project is the economic financial analysis of three companies: Acerin ox Europa S.A.U., Siderúrgica Sevillana, S.A., and ArcelorMittal Sestao, S.L. These three companies belong to the steel sector, being the first one well known not to say the most important and representative in Spain. At the same time, they all form part o f the Steel Producer Association (UNESID for its initials in Spanish), this association is the most important of its kind in Spain. Moreover, we are going to prove that although they belong to the same sector and association, a priori, they have different economic financial structure. After that, once we have all the information, and the financial indicators have been calculated, we are going to explain what the evolution was between 2013 and 2017. Furthermore, we are going to be able to predict what is goi ng to happen with the companies in the future. Finally, we will see how Acerinox Europa, S.A.U., Siderúrgica Sevillana, S.A. and Arcelor M ittal Sestao, S.L. have been able to survive the most financial crisis.El proyecto de fin de grado que se presenta a continuación tiene como principal objetivo el análisis económico-financiero de tres empresas: Acerinox Europa, S.A.U., Siderúrgica Sevillana, S.A., y ArcelorMittal Sestao S.L. Las tres compañías pertenecen al sector siderúrgico, siendo la primera de ellas una de las más importantes y representativas en España (por no decir la primera). Todas ellas al mismo tiempo pertenecen a la “Unión de Empresas Siderúrgicas (UNESID) que es la asociación de Empresas Productoras de Acero y de productos de primera transformación del acero en España. Se podrá comprobar que, aunque pertenecen a una misma asociación y mismo sector, a priori, tienen diferente estructura de propiedad. Una vez recopilados todos los datos y calculado todos los indicadores económicos-financieros, explicaremos cual ha sido la evolución de estos entre los periodos 2013 – 2017. Intercomparison and Uncertainty Assessment of Nine Evapotranspiration Estimates Over South America

This study examines the uncertainties and the representations of anomalies of a set of evapotranspiration products over climatologically distinct regions of South America. The products, coming from land surface models, reanalysis, and remote sensing, are chosen from sources that are readily available to the community of users. The results show that the spatial patterns of maximum uncertainty differ among metrics, with dry regions showing maximum relative uncertainties of annual mean evapotranspiration, while energy-limited regions present maximum uncertainties in the representation of the annual cycle and monsoon regions in the representation of anomalous conditions. Furthermore, it is found that land surface models driven by observed atmospheric fields detect meteorological and agricultural droughts in dry regions unequivocally. The remote sensing products employed do not distinguish all agricultural droughts and this could be attributed to the forcing net radiation. The study also highlights important characteristics of individual data sets and recommends users to include assessments of sensitivity to evapotranspiration data sets in their studies, depending on region and nature of study to be conducted.Fil: Sörensson, Anna.
