The borders of minoritised communities and national minorities are different than the nation-state ones; they are affected by local dynamics, the nation-state framework, and the global English-dominant context. In this paper, I analyse the concepts of minorisation and identity in two minoritised migrant communities, the Quechua and the Amazigh, living in another minoritised community, Catalonia. I will evaluate double and triple minorisation and the mirror effect on these communities. Double or triple minorisation happens when a particular individual or population sector is affected by more than one type of discrimination (Parella, 2003). The mirror effect happens when a particular individual or community from a minoritised background establishes contact with another minoritised community, triggering a change of identity, and cultural and linguistic ideologies and representations (Cortes-Colome, 2016). I will analyse a set of collected qualitative data, mainly semi-structured interviews with individuals from both communities residing in Barcelona. This is the first study to address these issues on minoritised communities in Catalonia

On September 28, 2021, the City University of New York- CUNY’s Institute for Health Equity (CIHE) hosted the online panel: Health, Health Care, and Health Disparities Among Latinx Population as part of the Speaker Series for Hispanic Heritage Month. The panel was conformed of four experts representing scientists, managers, and future researchers from the biomedical field. Participants were CUNY students, faculty, and individuals from the broader NYC community affiliated with CUNY college campuses. The panelists represented different professional roles, fields, and interests. The common denominator among them was their personal and professional commitment to serving Latinx populations. The main discussion focused on: the need to develop structural interventions that address societal factors to maximize the effect of clinical and individual-based interventions; the role and importance of community engagement; the need to use advocacy and community-centered approach; the significance of flexibility to adapt research portfolios and geographic location, which COVID-19 highlighted; and the need and urgency to increase the pool of Latinx HD researchers and practitioners at all levels and in all stages of the career pathway

It is proposed the implementation of design and construction procedures for beam-to-column moment resistant connection in steel special moment frames (PEARM) for Ecuador, which will ensure and guaranteed a good performance of the connection under severe seismic loads. It’s essential the ductility and good seismic performance of beam-to-column connections because the way of absorbing energy from an earthquake for a structure is by ductile deformation of the members. The capacity of energy dissipation by deformation of a PEARM is based by the formation of plastic hinges at the base of the columns, beams and columns. This is where comes the importance of beam-to-column connections, which is the capability to transmit forces from the columns to the plastic hinges of the beams. There are two ways to guarantee a good seismic performance of a beam-tocolumn moment resistant connection: 1) by using the pre-qualified connections, for example, following the American seismic provision which has undergone by sufficient testing, analysis, evaluation and review from highly qualified academic and professional personal; and 2) by making cyclic testing in laboratory for qualification of the of beam-to-column connection to observe and proof the good seismic performance. This thesis focuses on the analysis of these alternatives and the requirements to be implemented in Ecuador.

The community Pomasqui it is limited by one of the most polluted rivers in the city of Quito; the “Monjas” river. In order to regenerate this and other rivers there is already a wastewater treatment plant under construction in Quitumbe; but this neighborhood will keep sending their sewage directly to the river. The cleaning of the river will avoid the rejection of Pomasqui and San Antonio towards this natural resource and convert it a natural path that connects them. The objective of this project is to be able to make an infrastructure that is friendly to a community in order to maintain a constant interaction with the people who live around it. The relationship is given by including a community program that teaches about what is happening in the treatment plant and exposes the results of this treatment in orchards and gardens as part of the equipment of the linear park. By incorporating the coliseum of the community as part of the project it guarantees that the project becomes a landmark.

Herein, we describe the use of thioglycosides as glycosidase inhibitors by employing novel modifications at the reducing end of these glycomimetics. The inhibitors display a basic galactopyranosyl unit (1-4)-bonded to a 3-deoxy-4-thiopentopyranose moiety. The molecular basis of the observed inhibition has been studied by using a combination of NMR spectroscopy and molecular modeling techniques. It is demonstrated that these molecules are not recognized by Escherichia coli bgalactosidase in their ground-state conformation, with a conformational selection process taking place. In fact, the observed conformational distortion depends on the chemical nature of the compounds and results from the rotation around the glycosidic linkage (variation of F or Y) or from the deformation of the six-membered ring of the pentopyranose. The bound conformations of the ligand are adapted in the enzymatic pocket with a variety of hydrogen-bond, van der Waals, and stacking interactions.Fil: Calle, Luis.
