The Emergence of Native Podcasts in Journalism: Editorial Strategies and Business Opportunities in Latin America
This article analyses the state of the art of podcasting in the new digital landscape as well as the structures, editorial
strategies, and business models of native podcasts launched in Latin America over the last few years. To this end, a
multiple case study has been made to examine the way new digital outlets are using audio content. This qualitative research
is made up of a variety of approaches, such as interviews, online surveys of podcasters, as well as the collection
and analysis of secondary data. A specific aim of this comparative study was to include a sample of podcasts produced
by thirteen emerging media platforms from eight countries registered in the directory of digital natives conducted by
SembraMedia (https://www.sembramedia.org). This is a nonprofit organization dedicated to increasing the diversity and
quality of Spanish language content by helping digital media entrepreneurs become more sustainable and successful.
Results of this exploratory study reveal that native podcasting in Spanish is still expanding and that where the new media
are small in scale, they are more oriented to the full exploitation of the narrative and innovative possibilities of this
audio format and do not have responding to their target audiences’ needs as their main priority. These new media are
finding different ways to become monetised (mainly content production for clients, sponsored content, sponsorship, consulting
services, and advertising) and to make a profit
Improving the surface finish of concave and convex surfaces using a ball burnishing process
The ball burnishing process is done to improve the surface finish of workpieces that have been previously machined. In this article we present
the results of tests performed with this process that was applied to workpieces with a convex or concave surface of two different materials:
aluminum A92017 and steel G10380. An experiment to do the tests was designed. The results of measurements of surface roughness are presented
in this paper as well. These results are compared to those measured in the workpieces before being burnished. After that conclusions are drawn
about the improvement of surface roughness applied to the workpieces through the ball burnishing process. The main innovation of this paper is
that we work with concave and convex geometries. We also obtain a table of recomended parameter values for the process
Estimation of specific cutting energy in an S235 alloy for multi-directional ultrasonic vibration-assisted machining using the Finite Element Method
The objective of this work is to analyze the influence of the vibration-assisted turning process on the machinability of S235 carbon steel. During the experiments using this vibrational machining process, the vibrational amplitude and frequency of the cutting tool were adjusted to drive the tool tip in an elliptical or linear motion in the feed direction. Furthermore, a finite element analysis was deployed to investigate the mechanical response for different vibration-assisted cutting conditions. The results show how the specific cutting energy and the material’s machinability behave when using different operational cutting parameters, such as vibration frequency and tool tip motion in the x-axis, y-axis, and elliptical (x-y plane) motion. Then, the specific cutting energy and material’s machinability are compared with a conventional turning process, which helps to validate the finite element method (FEM) for the vibration-assisted process. As a result of the operating parameters used, the vibration-assisted machining process leads to a machinability improvement of up to 18% in S235 carbon steel. In particular, higher vibration frequencies were shown to increase the material’s machinability due to the specific cutting energy decrease. Therefore, the finite element method can be used to predict the vibration-assisted cutting and the specific cutting energy, based on predefined cutting parameters.Peer ReviewedPostprint (published version
Electroplastic cutting influence on power consumption during drilling process
The aim of this study is to report the use of non-conventional material removal process technique. It was found that electropulses (EPs) assisted drilling process improves the material machinability based on the eletroplastic influence. The influence of EPs in drilling process is studied by combining different feed rates, drills diameters, and current densities in 7075 aluminium and 1045 carbon steel. The results show that the electrically assisted drilling process improves material machinability, decreases the specific cutting energy up to 27 % in aluminium and 17 % in steel.Peer ReviewedPreprin
Observation of radio galaxies with HAWC
The High Altitude Water Cherenkov (HAWC) Gamma-Ray Observatory is an
extensive air shower array located in Puebla, Mexico. The closest radio galaxy
within the HAWC field of view, M87, has been detected in very high energies. In
this work we report upper limits on the TeV {\gamma}-ray flux of the radio
galaxy M87. At a distance of 16 Mpc, M87 is a supergiant elliptical galaxy
located in the Virgo Cluster that has been observed from radio wavelengths to
TeV {\gamma}-rays. Although a single-zone synchrotron self-Compton model has
been successfully used to explain the spectral energy distribution of this
source up to a few GeV, the {\gamma}-ray spectrum at TeV has been interpreted
within different theoretical models. We discuss the implications of these upper
limits on the photo-hadronic interactions, as well as the number of neutrino
events expected in the IceCube neutrino telescope.Comment: 8 pages, 1 figure, ICRC 201

Associations are the most numerous entities within the non-market subsector of the Social
Economy, these entities are characterized for being non-profit, its democratic governance
and its voluntary and free membership. Sports clubs are a specific subtype of association
which, due to their high presence and dispersion throughout the territory, as well as their
main mission, produce a significant socioeconomic impact and numerous positive effects on
society. However, many of these organizations are in a financial insufficiency situation and
obtaining resources is the most common problem faced by their boards, that is why income
management and maintenance of an optimal size are crucial issues for the development of
their activity. The nearly 6,500 active sports clubs present in the Valencian Community
compose a population universe with very heterogeneous characteristics, where a vast
majority of entities maintain small dimensions and, at the same time, there are some mediumsized
and even large clubs. This doctoral thesis analyzes the impact that the internal
dimensions of sports clubs have on their organizational models and financial structures,
focusing particularly on the ways in which they gather the necessary resources to grow,
maintain or even survive according to their size. The research has been based on an extensive
empirical work, whose main tool for obtaining quantitative data has been a field survey
conducted on a statistically significant sample, proportionally distributed according to the
known population universe, consisting of a total of 520 Valencian sports clubs. In addition,
an own model structured in eight income categories has been developed for the analysis of
financing, which allows its adaptation to other existing theoretical models, as well as an own
system for the classification of clubs by size, dividing them into four dimensional segments
based on two variables: the number of members and the annual budget of these entities
Newsletter as a journalist product aiming at new readers. Study on editorial email newsletters launched by El País, El Español and El Independiente
In the digital era of information saturation and dispersion of content through social
platforms, newsletters are more and more regarded by media as a way to connect
directly to audiences and to draw new publics beyond traditional sections of information
by means of both specialization and personalization of content. This article
first analyses different types of newsletters that are being produced in the international
media landscape nowadays, not only the ones launched by legacy media but
also by new digital journalism brands appeared in these last years (Quartz, Buzzfeed,
Vox, The Skimm y Ozy). And secondly, and above all, this study focuses on a
detailed comparison between contents, structure and business models of editorial
newsletters published by three Spanish media: one legacy media (El País), on native
digital (El Español) and another politics and economy niche one (El Independiente).
Results show how Spain does not stay apart from the expansion of this
product in media worldwide and how payment methods and financing possibilities
turn out to be a key element that defines the model of newsletters media want to
launch in each case.10.6035/2174-0992.2018.15.
