Interaksi Simbolik Pekerja Seks Komersial High Class di Kalangan Mahasiswa Kota Padang

This paper is the result of research in Padang, West Sumatra, about sex business which is done by female college students who continue their study in this city. TThrough the research, it could be revealed that they become prostitutes not only because of economic factors but also because of their own need. Interpersonal communication in the form of persuasive communication and showing their trademark symbols both verbal and non-verbal are performed in order to attract their male customers. However, these high class prostitutes communicate differently when they play their role as female college students. Their symbolic interactions when become students are very much different from their night life. At campus, they only wear casual clothes, show casual appearance, and tend to choose certain people to be their friends. In addition, these kinds of students are still motivated to continue and finish their study. They do it not only for their own prestige but also for fulfilling their family demand to be educated intellectuals in the future. Persepsi Masyarakat tentang Peran Media Cetak Lokal dalam Mitigasi Bencana Alam

Abstract One of the mass media role is to enhance society perception, for example in the information of disaster mitigation. The goal of this study is to describe perception in interpret the role of local mass printed media Padang Express and SInggalang about disaster mitigation. The research is using the qualitative method with collective data technique focus group discussion, interview, and observation. This study describe the role of local media i.e.Harian Padang Ekspress and Singgalang has been percepted differently by labour group, civil servant, student, and lecturer. Student and lecturer believe that local media can reduce society anciety as a consequent of issues and unresponsible rumour and educate the society in order to aware of disaster mitigation. on the other hand, labour and civil servant believe that local media over expose the disaster and causing the society anciety, even the exsodus society to other regions. This study recommend that media, government and institution related to disaster in order to control the news about disaster, so that it disadvantages the society. Abstrak Salah satu peran media massa yaitu memberikan tambahan wawasan kepadamasyarakat, di antaranya informasi tentang bencana alam.Tujuan penelitian iniadalah untuk mendeskripsikan persepsi masyarakat dalam menafsirkan peranmedia cetak lokal Padang Ekpress dan Singgalang tentang mitigasi bencana alam.Metode penelitian ini kualitatif dengan menggunakan teknik pengumpulan data focus group discussion, wawancara, danobservasi. Hasil penelitian mendeskripsikan Peranmedia lokal yaitu Harian Padang Ekpress dan Singgalang dipersepsi secara berbeda oleh kelompok Buruh, pegawai negeri,mahasiswa, dan dosen.Menurut mahasiswa dan dosen,media lokal dapat mengurangi kepanikan masyarakat akibat isu-isu dan rumor yang tidak bertanggung jawab dan mendidik masyarakat agar lebih melek bencana.Menurut Buruh dan pegawai negeri, media lokal terlalu mengekspos bencana secara berlebihan dan menyebabkan masyarakat kalut, bahkan eksodus ke luar daerah. Penelitian ini merekomendasikan agarmedia dan pemerintah serta lembaga yang terkait dengan bencana alamagar mengontrol pemberitaan tentang bencana alamsehingga tidakmerugikanmasyarakat.
