Controlled localization of interacting bosons in a disordered optical lattice

    Get PDF
We show that tunneling and localization properties of interacting ultracold atoms in an optical lattice can be controlled by adiabatically turning on a fast oscillatory force even in the presence of disorder. Our calculations are based on the exact solution of the time-dependent Schroedinger equation, using the Floquet formalism. Implications of our findings for larger systems and the possibility of controlling the phase diagram of disordered-interacting bosonic systems are discussed.Comment: 7 pages 7 fig

Evaluation of a Local Fault Detection Algorithm for HVDC Systems

    Get PDF
A great increase in the amount of energy generated from clean and renewable sources integrated in the electric power system is expected worldwide in the coming years. High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) systems are seen as a promising alternative to the traditional Alternating Current (AC) systems for the expansion of the electric power system. However, to achieve this vision, there are some remaining challenges regarding HVDC systems which need to be solved. One of the main challenges is related to fault detection and location in HVDC grids. This paper reviews the main protection algorithms available and presents the evaluation of a local fault detection algorithm for DC faults in a multi-terminal Voltage Source Conversion (VSC) based HVDC grid. The paper analyses the influence of the DC voltage sampling frequency and the cable length in the performance of the algorithm. © 2019, European Association for the Development of Renewable Energy, Environment and Power Quality (EA4EPQ).The authors thank the support from the Spanish Ministry of Economy, Industry and Competitiveness (project ENE2016-79145-R AEI/FEDER, UE) and GISEL research group IT1083-16), as well as from the University of the Basque Country UPV/EHU (research group funding PPG17/23)

TEMPORAL AND SPATIAL DISTRIBUTION OF POACEAE POLLEN IN AREAS OF SOUTHERN UNITED KINGDOM, SPAIN AND PORTUGAL

Overall, longer Poaceae pollen seasons coincided with earlier pollen season start dates. Winter rainfall noticeably affects the intensity of Poaceae pollen seasons in Mediterranean areas, but this was not as important in Worcester. Weekly data from Worcester followed a similar pattern to that of Badajoz and Évora but at a distance of more than 1500 km and 4-5 weeks later

Radiative open charm decay of the Y(3940), Z(3930), X(4160) resonances

We determine the radiative decay amplitudes for decay into DD^* and Dˉγ\bar{D} \gamma, or DsD^*_s and Dˉsγ\bar{D}_s \gamma of some of the charmonium like states classified as X,Y,Z resonances, plus some other hidden charm states which are dynamically generated from the interaction of vector mesons with charm. The mass distributions as a function of the Dˉγ\bar{D} \gamma or Dˉsγ\bar{D}_s \gamma invariant mass show a peculiar behavior as a consequence of the DDˉD^* \bar{D}^* nature of these states. The experimental search of these magnitudes can shed light on the nature of these states.Comment: 18 pages, 9 figure

Maxillofacial reconstruction in a pediatric patient with Osteosarcoma

Osteosarcoma is a bone tumor that consists of malignant cells that produce immature bone. Is a bone tumor that develops during periods of rapid growth in adolescents and young adults. It is the most common type of bone cancer in children and adolescents. The diagnosis and treatment of patients with osteosarcoma requires a multidisciplinary team approach. Resection of maxillary tumours remains a surgical challenge due to the possible aesthetic and functional secuelae. We present herein the case of a 15 year-old female with an osteoblastic osteosarcoma of the left maxilla. It was treated with eight cycles of neoadjuvant chemotherapy, followed by a total left maxillectomy. Resection was performed through a modified Ferguson-Weber approach, using a titanium mesh to reconstruct the orbital base and the maxillary process. A palatal obturator was placed at the same time. The use of a three-dimensional model by stereolithography is extremely helpful in planning and performing the maxillectomy, as well as the facial reconstructio
