Archivos centralizados vs institucionales: ¿estamos equivocando el camino con la fragmentación de repositorios?

The continuing emergence of new resources, open archives and digital libraries affects both academia and institutions that house ancient collections. The current “ribbon-cutting culture” should be subject to safeguards for the preservation and provision of good services. This paper lists some cooperative services in the academic world and a concrete example of digitization of an early collection of Spanish journals at the University of Connecticut.[ES] Se defienden las ventajas de los repositorios centralizados frente a la dispersión de proyectos institucionales. La aparición constante de nuevos recursos, archivos abiertos y bibliotecas digitales, afecta tanto al medio académico como a las instituciones de fondo antiguo. La “cultura del corte de cinta” debería ir acompañada de garantías para la preservación y la prestación de buenos servicios. [EN] This working paper presents a model of report for the evaluation of Spanish journals of Human and Social Sciences, based on bibliographic content recorded by the database ISOC of Spanish Council for Scientific Research. The aim of the report is to develop a system of categorization of Spanish scientific journals indexed in Web of Science Core Collection and/or Scopus, according to the information gathered in this resource, which is a byproduct.[ES] Este documento presenta un modelo de informe, en fase experimental, para la evaluación de revistas españolas de Ciencias Humanas y Sociales, basado en los contenidos bibliográficos registrados por la base de datos ISOC del Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas. The aims of this paper are to describe and compare the main subject guides of web resources used in Spain: Intute (UK), Infomine (USA), The Virtual Library of WWW (International), Open Directory Project (International), Yahoo! Directory (International) and Tecnociencia (Spain). All of them have an interdisciplinary scope containing resources specialized in all of scientific domains: Science and Technology, Social Science, Arts and Humanities and Health and Life Sciences. Spanish journals in WoS

The number of Spanish journals indexed in the database Web of science is analyzed. It has grown from 44 in 2005 to 149 in 2009. Yet it seems that Spain is not adequately represented in relation to its scientific and publishing potential. The Spain presence in Scopus is considerably larger, with 223 journals

Dissemination and evaluation of historical reseach in the Digital Age: Spanish journals and databases

[ES] Se analiza la transformación operada con el desarrollo de Internet en el ecosistema formado por las revistas académicas y las bases de datos bibliográficas, con especial atención a la situación de las publicaciones españolas de Historia. Las bases de datos, en especial los índices de citas, permiten categorizar las revistas, pero actualmente los indicadores extraídos de la citación son inadecuados para valorar muchos ámbitos de Ciencias Humanas y Sociales. Se analiza en detalle la situación del área de Historia, sus características bibliométricas y la utilidad de las bases de datos bibliográficas para extraer indicadores alternativos y estadísticas para el análisis historiográfico, en el marco del desarrollo de las Humanidades digitales.[EN] This article analyzes the transformation operated with the development of Internet in the ecosystem of academic journals and bibliographic databases, with particular attention to the situation of Spanish publications about History. Databases, especially citation indexes allow categorize journals, but currently citation indicators are inadequate to assess many areas of human and social sciences. The paper analyzes in depth the situation in the field of History, its bibliometric characteristics and usefulness of bibliographic databases to extract alternative indicators and statistics for the historiographical analysis in the context of the development of digital humanities

Visibility and accessibility of information science dissertations in Spain

This contribution examines the visibility and accessibility of the doctoral dissertations in Library and Information Science in Spanish universities. The analysis shows the inadequacies of available resources that locate the theses in this discipline and calculate the percentage available as full text. Finally, a reflection about the use of classifications in the document databases is included
