A Machine Learning Model for Early Prediction of Crop Yield, Nested in a Web Application in the Cloud: A Case Study in an Olive Grove in Southern Spain
Predictive systems are a crucial tool in management and decision-making in any productive
sector. In the case of agriculture, it is especially interesting to have advance information on the
profitability of a farm. In this sense, depending on the time of the year when this information is
available, important decisions can be made that affect the economic balance of the farm. The aim of
this study is to develop an effective model for predicting crop yields in advance that is accessible and
easy to use by the farmer or farm manager from a web-based application. In this case, an olive orchard
in the Andalusia region of southern Spain was used. The model was estimated using spatio-temporal
training data, such as yield data from eight consecutive years, and more than twenty meteorological
parameters data, automatically charged from public web services, belonging to a weather station
located near the sample farm. The workflow requires selecting the parameters that influence the crop
prediction and discarding those that introduce noise into the model. The main contribution of this
research is the early prediction of crop yield with absolute errors better than 20%, which is crucial for
making decisions on tillage investments and crop marketing.European Commission PYC20-RE-005-UJA 1381202-GEU

Efficient generation of occlusion-aware multispectral and thermographic point clouds
The reconstruction of 3D point clouds from image datasets is a time-consuming task that has been frequently
solved by performing photogrammetric techniques on every data source. This work presents an approach to
efficiently build large and dense point clouds from co-acquired images. In our case study, the sensors coacquire
visible as well as thermal and multispectral imagery. Hence, RGB point clouds are reconstructed
with traditional methods, whereas the rest of the data sources with lower resolution and less identifiable
features are projected into the first one, i.e., the most complete and dense. To this end, the mapping process
is accelerated using the Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) and multi-threading in the CPU (Central Processing
Unit). The accurate colour aggregation in 3D points is guaranteed by taking into account the occlusion of
foreground surfaces. Accordingly, our solution is shown to reconstruct much more dense point clouds than
notable commercial software (286% on average), e.g., Pix4Dmapper and Agisoft Metashape, in much less time
(−70% on average with respect to the best alternative).Spanish Ministry of

Genetic evolution of weights and growing in segureño sheep in a decade of mass selection
The evolution of the mean breeding values and its mean fiability of the weight and growing traits are descrived in the Segureño sheep breed have been studied using the information of the breeding program of the breed. These values have been obtained using BLUP animal model enclosing maternal effects, what permited observe the evolution along a decade of mass selection.
Geotechnical and geomechanical characterization of the fault gouge of the Alhama de Murcia active fault, SE Spain
Here we present the results of the mechanical and mineralogical study of the fault rock of the Alhama de Murcia fault. This fault is one of the most active faults in the Iberian Peninsula. It shows segments partially formed by exhumed fine grained fault rocks (fault gouge FG) with a thickness of more than 50 m developed mainly in a brittle regime. Several strength and strain tests have been carried out, both in-situ and in laboratory, considering different stress orientations in relation to the tectonic fabric. Undisturbed samples encountered from two fault observatory boreholes drilled near Lorca, (FAM-1 and FAMSIS-IGN, of 174 and 40 m depth, respectively) has been used for the laboratory tests. The FG shows a hard soil and soft rock like mechanical behavior with uniaxial compressive strength 1.19) for planes unfavourably oriente
Tuning the Cytotoxicity of Bis-Phosphino-Amines Ruthenium(II) Para-Cymene Complexes for Clinical Development in Breast Cancer
Despite some limitations such as long-term side effects or the potential presence of intrinsic
or acquired resistance, platinum compounds are key therapeutic components for the treatment of
several solid tumors. To overcome these limitations, maintaining the same efficacy, organometallic
ruthenium(II) compounds have been proposed as a viable alternative to platinum agents as they
have a more favorable toxicity profile and represent an ideal template for both, high-throughput
and rational drug design. To support the preclinical development of bis-phoshino-amine ruthenium
compounds in the treatment of breast cancer, we carried out chemical modifications in the structure
of these derivatives with the aim of designing less toxic and more efficient therapeutic agents. We
report new bis-phoshino-amine ligands and the synthesis of their ruthenium counterparts. The
novel ligands and compounds were fully characterized, water stability analyzed, and their in vitro
cytotoxicity against a panel of tumor cell lines representative of different breast cancer subtypes
was evaluated. The mechanism of action of the lead compound of the series was explored. In vivo
toxicity was also assessed. The results obtained in this article might pave the way for the clinical
development of these compounds in breast cancer therapyMinisterio de Ciencia e Innovación y Agencia Estatal de la Investigación, Spain (Grant Nos. PID2020-117788RB-I00, PID2020-

Synthesis and functionalization of biocompatible Tb:CePO4 nanophosphors with spindle-like shape
Monoclinic Tb:CePO4 nanophosphors with a spindle-like morphology and tailored size (in the nanometer and micrometer range) have been prepared through a very simple procedure, which consists of aging, at low temperature (120 C), ethylene glycol solutions containing only cerium and terbium acetylacetonates and phosphoric acid, not requiring the addition of surfactants or capping agents. The influence of the heating mode (conventional convection oven or microwave oven) and the Tb doping level on the luminescent, structural and morphological features of the precipitated nanoparticles have also been analyzed. This study showed that microwave-assisted heating resulted in an important beneficial effect on the luminescent properties of these nanophosphors. Finally, a procedure for the functionalization of the Tb:CePO4 nanoparticles with asparticdextran is also reported. The functionalized nanospindles presented negligible toxicity for Verocells, which along with theirs excellent luminescent properties, make them suitable for biomedical applications.
