Seasonal Variation of Tannin Content on Pigeon Pea (\u3cem\u3eCajanus Cajan\u3c/em\u3e (L.) Millsp) Plants

    Get PDF
Tannins reduce forage digestibility and palatability by reacting with proteins (Makkar, 1989) and due to that, tannin content is considered to be an important characteristic of leguminous crops and it has been used as a selection criterion on pigeon-pea improvement programs (Godoy et al., 1994). In Southeastern Brazil, pigeon pea is less consumed by bovines in the rainy season (October through March) than in the dry season (from April on), when flowering occurs. Alencar et al. (1991) found very little consumption by Canchim cows during the rainy season, and Lourenço et al. (1984) recommend pigeon-pea for feeding bovines in the dry season

The title compound, C15H14O2, was obtained by Friedel–Crafts acylation between 2,5-dimethylphenol and benzoyl chloride in the presence of aluminium chloride as a catalyst. The dihedral angle between the benzene rings is 61.95 (4)°. In the crystal, O—H⋯O hydrogen bonding and C—H⋯O weak interactions lead to polymeric C(6), C(8) and C(11) chains along the a, b and c-axis directions, respectively

Magnetic response dependence of ZnO based thin films on Ag doping and processing architecture

Multifunctional and multiresponsive thin films are playing an increasing role in modern technology. This work reports a study on the magnetic properties of ZnO and Ag-doped ZnO semiconducting films prepared with a zigzag-like columnar architecture and their correlation with the processing conditions. The films were grown through Glancing Angle Deposition (GLAD) co-sputtering technique to improve the induced ferromagnetism at room temperature. Structural and morphological characterizations have been performed and correlated with the paramagnetic resonance measurements, which demonstrate the existence of vacancies in both as-cast and annealed films. The magnetic measurements reveal changes in the magnetic order of both ZnO and Ag-doped ZnO films with increasing temperature, showing an evolution from a paramagnetic (at low temperature) to a diamagnetic behavior (at room temperature). Further, the room temperature magnetic properties indicate a ferromagnetic order even for the un-doped ZnO film. The results open new perspectives for the development of multifunctional ZnO semiconductors, the GLAD co-sputtering technique enables the control of the magnetic response, even in the un-doped semiconductor materials. The Brazilian agencies CNPq, CAPES partially supports the research. From Portugal side, this work was supported by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) in the framework of the Strategic Funding UID/FIS/04650/2020 and the junior research contract (A.F.). The asymmetric unit of the title compound, C8H8O2, contains two crystallographically independent molecules, which form dimers linked by O⋯H—O hydrogen bonds. The benzene rings in the dimers are inclined at a dihedral angle of 7.30 (8)° and both methyl groups display rotational disorder. This redetermination results in a crystal structure with significantly higher precision than the original determination [Ellas & García-Blanco (1963 ▶). Acta Cryst. 16, 434], in which the authors reported only the unit-cell parameters and space group, without any detailed information on the atomic arrangement. In the crystal, dimers are connected by weak C—H⋯O interactions, forming R 2 2(10) and R 4 4(18) rings along [110] and an infinite zigzag chain of dimers along the [001] direction also occurs

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the occurrence of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder among women experiencing a severe maternal morbidity event and associated factors in comparison with those without maternal morbidity. METHODS: In a retrospective cohort study, 803 women with or without severe maternal morbidity were evaluated at 6 months to 5 years postpartum for the presence of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Interviews were conducted by telephone and electronic data was stored. Data analysis was carried out by using χ2, Fisher’s Exact test, and logistic regression analysis. RESULTS: There was no significant change in the prevalence of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder related to a previous severe maternal morbidity experience. There were also no differences in diagnostic criteria for severe maternal morbidity (hypertensive syndromes, hemorrhage, surgical intervention or intensive care unit admission required, among other management criteria). Low parity (2.5-fold risk) and increasing age were factors associated with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. CONCLUSIONS: A severe maternal morbidity episode is not associated with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder symptoms within five years of the severe maternal morbidity event and birth. However, a more advanced maternal age and primiparity increased the risk of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. This does not imply that women who had experienced a severe maternal morbidity event did not suffer or need differentiated care

ctive: Evaluate the biological effectiveness of native entomopathogenic fungi to control Spodoptera frugiperda and Schistocerca piceifrons piceifrons, as well as the natural incidence of parasitoids in S. frugiperda. Design/Methodology/Approach: Six strains of Metarhizium anisopliae (A1, A2, A3, A4, A5, and A6) and three strains of Isaria fumosorosea (B4, B5, and B6) were collected. S. frugiperda larvae were inoculated with all the isolated strains of Metarhizium and Isaria; while, the nymphs of S. p. piceifrons were inoculated with strains A1, A5, A6, B4, and B5. Mortality (%) and natural incidence of parasitoids in S. frugiperda larvae were evaluated. Mortality was analyzed using a one-way ANOVA and a comparison of means (Duncan; É‘ = 0.05) in the INFOSTAT 2021 software. Parasitism was reported with descriptive statistics (%). Results: Strains A1, A6, and B6 caused the highest mortality (86.6-90.0 %) in S. frugiperda larvae. Strains A1, A5, A6, and B6 caused the highest mortality in nymphs of S. p. piceifrons (90-100 %). Two families of parasitoids were recorded: Tachinidae (Diptera; 7.8 %) and Braconidae (Hymenoptera). Wasps of the genus Meteorus sp. account for 92.2 % of the latter family. Study Limitations/Implications: The biological effectiveness evaluations of the entomopathogenic fungi were carried out under laboratory conditions. The results must still be validated on the field. Findings/Conclusions: Strains A1, A5, and A6 showed a good control of the S. p. piceifrons nymphs. Strain B6 is a biological control alternative for S. p. piceifrons and S. frugiperda, since it recorded the highest mortality for both species

Synthesis of 7-Chloroquinoline Derivatives Using Mixed Lithium-Magnesium Reagents

We have prepared a library of functionalized quinolines through the magnesiation of 7-chloroquinolines under mild conditions, employing both batch and continuous flow conditions. The preparation involved the generation of mixed lithium-magnesium intermediates, which were reacted with different electrophiles. Mixed lithium-zinc reagents allowed the synthesis of halogenated and arylated derivatives. Some of the synthesized 4-carbinol quinolines have shown interesting antiproliferative properties, their hydroxyl group being a suitable amino group bioisostere. We also report a two-step approach for optically active derivatives

The dropout in higher education assumes relevant percentages, with negative consequences for the students, family, institution and society in general. In order to know the reasons for the dropout intention, researchers from Brazil, Spain and Portugal converged on the construction of a transcultural questionnaire. Face the multidimensional nature of dropout causes, the questionnaire assesses six dimensions: Social, Academic, Faculty, Health and Wellbeing, Institutional, and Financial. The factorial analysis, with autonomous samples of first-year students from Brazil, Spain and Portugal, showed an adequate distribution of the items by the six dimensions, with some difficulties in Faculty dimension in Brazilian sample. The internal consistency of items reached adequate levels in those six dimensions (values range from .74 to .91). Future developments should test the dimensionality of the questionnaire and its invariance in all three countries, including other psychological and academic variables for criterion validity analysis.
