The results show that the series are not stationary, i.e. are individually I (1); in addition we find a long term relationship between both variables. Through a VECM we estimate short and long term elasticities to analyze the dynamics of adjustment. The results show that in the short-term the conservation hypothesis holds (i.e. no evidence of a short-term relationship of energy consumption to GDP). In the long-term, however, we find evidence of a feedback mechanism between both variables. Yet, this paper provides evidence that policymakers can implement policies aimed at energy conservation without hurting economic growt

In this paper estimates the long-term relationship in the relationship Energy Consumption - GDP and GDP - Energy Consumption for 10 Latin America countries during the period 1971 to 2007. Through Cointegration test of Westerlund (2006) for panel data, which takes into account the possible dependence between countries (Cross-Section) and any existing structural breaks in long-run relationship, we calculate the elasticities, both individual and regional level. Above, to provide empirical evidence on the ability to design and implement policies those promote energy conservation. Cointegration is found to exist in both directions, energy consumption to GDP, and GDP to energy consumption. It shows the energy dependence of some countries, as well as the possibility of implementing energy conservation in others.

    Get PDF
AbstractLeishmaniasis is an endemic disease in 98 countries around the world, with 12 million cases and more than 350 million people at risk of acquiring infection. Available drugs such as pentavalent antimony, amphotericin B and miltefosine, have been the treatment of choice for all clinical forms of leishmaniasis. However, disadvantages such as high cost, duration of treatment and toxicity, promote non-adherence or neglect of treatment and the emergence of resistant or less sensitive to medicine. These problems have stimulated the search of new therapeutic alternatives that are affordable, without adverse effects and favorable cosmetic results. Phototherapy is a procedure in which an agent photosensitizer when activated by light leads to production reactive oxygen species. This therapy used in the treatment of various forms of cancer, herpes and other and localized infectious diseases, is emerging as a promising strategy for the treatment of cutaneous leishmaniasis with large advantages such as low cost, easy handling and total resolution injury, becoming a very promising alternative compared to the traditional treatment approaches

    Get PDF
This following research's aim is to identify sexual difficulties that are related to the condition of organic erectile dysfunction in two male cases to characterize marital adjustment with their female couples. Therefore, five different questionnaire-type instruments were be applied (EAD, ISS, SEAR, IFSF and SHIM) as well as profound interviews to complete the obtained information. Results show that previous history of affective communication in erectile dysfunction is an important factor of sexual satisfaction and marital adjustment in couples.Psicólogo (a)Pregrad

New insights on Bjerkandera (Phanerochaetaceae, Polyporales) in the Neotropics with description of Bjerkandera albocinerea based on morphological and molecular evidence

    Get PDF
Bjerkandera is one of the few poroid genera in the Phanerochaetaceae family known to date. The genus has a worldwide distribution and is characterized by effused-reflexed, pileate basidiomata with a pale cream to smoky or mouse grey hymenophore that becomes darker when dried, and a monomitic hyphal structure with clamped generative hyphae. Morphological and phylogenetic studies have traditionally accepted only two species in the genus, B. adusta (generic type) and B. fumosa, both described from temperate Europe. Recently, three additional species, B. atroalba, B. centroamericana and B. mikrofumosa were described from the Neotropics. While studying polypores in the Yungas forests of northwest Argentina and the Atlantic Forest of southeast Brazil, several specimens of Bjerkandera were gathered. A comparative morphological study revealed that some of these specimens do not correspond to any of the known species in the genus. This study aimed to propose a broad species-level phylogenetic hypothesis for Bjerkandera in the Neotropics and worldwide and to discuss the taxonomic status and diversity of the species in this genus. This study is based on a morphological examination of specimens collected between 2012 and 2017, and on a revision of original collections, including the type specimens. A total of eleven ITS and seven nLSU sequences were generated and phylogenetic analyses based on Bayesian Inference (BI) and Maximum Likelihood (ML) were performed. An extensive documentation of the species diversity within Bjerkandera in the Neotropics is presented. Genetic data of B. mikrofumosa were obtained for the first time and its phylogenetic position was tested. Additionally, its geographic distribution was extended in the Neotropics to Argentina and Brazil. Finally, molecular and morphological evidence was used to propose a new species for the genus, Bjerkandera albocinerea sp. nov. This study provides an update of the known diversity of the genus in the Neotropics and worldwide. In addition, our results indicate that the number of taxa in Bjerkandera has been underestimated by morphological evidence, and may actually be greater than traditionally accepted.Fil: Motato-Vásquez, Viviana.
