Bishop McKendree was there in good health and expects to go to the Kentucky Conference, as does Bishop Roberts. He regrets that he will not be able to attend the Ohio Conference because he wishes to see Finley. Roberts will not be able to pay Finley the money he owes him, but will send $75.00 with Brother M. Ruter to pass on to him. He tells Finley about the establishment of a school and mission among the Potawatomi Indians under the missionary leadership of Bro. Walker [Jesse].     Finley is serving as the Presiding Elder of the Ohio District (Ohio Conference), which includes the eastern Ohio circuits of Beaver, Erie, Grand River and Mahonan, Chatauque, Steubenville, Tuscarawas and Huron. Bishop Roberts lets Finley know that he will not be in attendance at the Ohio Conference in Steubenville. He believes that Bishop George and Bishop McKendree will be in attendance.     Quantum well and dot self-aligned stripe lasers utilizing an InGaP optoelectronic confinement layer

    We demonstrate and study a novel process for fabrication of GaAs-based self-aligned lasers based upon a single over-growth. A lattice-matched n-doped InGaP layer is utilized for both electrical and optical confinements. Single-lateral-mode emission is demonstrated initially from an In0.17Ga0.83 As double quantum well laser emitting similar to 980 nm. We then apply the fabrication technique to a quantum dot laser emitting similar to 1300 nm. Furthermore, we analyze the breakdown mechanism in our devices and discuss the limitations of index guiding in our structures

    Synchronous N-S and E-W extension at the Tibet-to-Himalaya transition in NW Bhutan

    Despite ~50 Myr of continuous continent-continent collision, contractional structures in the Himalayan-Tibetan orogen are today limited to the northern and southern margins of the system, while extension dominates much of the interior. On the Tibetan Plateau, Cenozoic E-W extension has been accommodated by strike-slip faults and extensional grabens, while N-S extension at the Tibet-to-Himalaya transition has been accommodated by the South Tibetan fault system (STFS). The genetic relationship between N-S and E-W extension is disputed, although age constraints indicate temporal overlap of at least 7 Myr. In NW Bhutan the two intersect where the STFS basal detachment is cut by the Yadong cross structure (YCS), an extensional half graben that provides a rare opportunity to constrain relative timings. We report U-Pb zircon dates from four STFS footwall leucogranites consistent with episodic magmatism during the middle-late Miocene and in situ U(-Th)-Pb monazite and xenotime dates from three metasedimentary rocks ranging from late Oligocene to middle Miocene. We suggest that amphibolite facies footwall metamorphism was ongoing at the time the basal STFS detachment initiated as a ductile structure in the middle-late Miocene. Late-stage granitic intrusions may reflect footwall melting during extensional exhumation along the STFS, but post-metamorphic and post-intrusion fabrics suggest that most displacement occurred after emplacement of the youngest granites. Some of the oldest YCS-related fabrics are found in a deformed 14 Ma leucogranite, implying middle Miocene ductile deformation. This observation, along with evidence for subsequent brittle YCS deformation, suggests that N-S and E-W extensional structures in the area had protracted and overlapping deformation histories

    Study of the radiative decay ϕηγ\phi \to \eta \gamma with CMD-2 detector

    Using the 1.9pb11.9 pb^{-1} of data collected with the CMD-2 detector at VEPP-2M the decay mode ϕηγ\phi \to \eta \gamma, ηπ+ππ0\eta \to \pi^+\pi^-\pi^0 has been studied. The obtained branching ratio is B(ϕηγ)=(1.18±0.03±0.06)\phi \to \eta \gamma) = (1.18 \pm 0.03 \pm 0.06) %.Comment: 13 pages, 5 figures, LaTex2e, to be published in Phys. Lett.

    The process e+eKL0KS0e^+e^- \to K^0_L K^0_S has been studied with the CMD-2 detector using about 950 events detected in the center-of-mass energy range from 1.05 to 1.38 GeV.     HI in the Outskirts of Nearby Galaxies

    The HI in disk galaxies frequently extends beyond the optical image, and can trace the dark matter there. I briefly highlight the history of high spatial resolution HI imaging, the contribution it made to the dark matter problem, and the current tension between several dynamical methods to break the disk-halo degeneracy. I then turn to the flaring problem, which could in principle probe the shape of the dark halo. Instead, however, a lot of attention is now devoted to understanding the role of gas accretion via galactic fountains. The current Λ\rm \Lambda cold dark matter theory has problems on galactic scales, such as the core-cusp problem, which can be addressed with HI observations of dwarf galaxies. For a similar range in rotation velocities, galaxies of type Sd have thin disks, while those of type Im are much thicker.     Study of KS KL Coupled Decays and KL -Be Interactions with the CMD-2 Detector at VEPP-2M Collider

    The integrated luminosity about 4000 inverse nanobarn of around phi meson mass ( 5 millions of phi mesons) has been collected with the CMD-2 detector at the VEPP-2M collider. A latest analysis of the KS KL coupled decays based on 30 % of available data is presented in this paper. The KS KL pairs from phi meson decays were reconstructed in the drift chamber when both kaons decayed into two charged particles. From a sample of 1423 coupled decays a selection of candidates to the CP violating KL into pi+ pi- decay was performed. CP violating decays were not identified because of the domination of events with a KL regenerating at the Be beam pipe into KS and a background from KL semileptonic decays. The regeneration cross section of 110 MeV/c KL mesons was found to be 53 +- 17 mb in agreement with theoretical expectations. The angular distribution of KS mesons after regeneration and the total cross section of KL for Be have been measured.Comment: 14 pages, 8 figure

    The cross section of the process e+ e- --> omega pi0 --> pi0 pi0 gamma has been measured in the c.m. energy range 920-1380 MeV with the CMD-2 detector. Its energy dependence is well described by the interference of the rho(770) and rho'(1450) mesons decaying to omega pi0. Upper limits for the cross sections of the direct processes e+ e- --> pi0 pi0 gamma, eta pi0 gamma have been set.Comment: Accepted for publication in PL
