A Mathematical Model Used In Conjunction With A Finite Element Analysis To Aid In The Design And Analysis Of Bourdon Tubes
A mathematical model that describes a variety of Bourdon tube geometries has been used for the three-dimensional analysis of Bourdon tubes. The variation of the stresses and tip deflections with respect to the variables used in the mathematical model are then presented as an aid in the design and analysis of the Bourdon tube. The finite element program represents a user-orientated package for calculation of tip deflections and stresses. Stresses and deflections are compared to both strain gage data and instrumented tip deflections as well as published data to establish the credibility of both the model and computer program. © 1982 ASME
Requirements for Auxiliary Stiffeners Attached to Panels Under Combined Compression and Shear
Panels of aluminum alloy sheets, framed by side and end stiffeners, were subjected to combined loading by means of offset knife edges applying loads to top and bottom end plates with reacting forces against the end plates supplied by laterally acting rollers. The test specimens were 17S-T aluminum alloy shoots 0.040 inch thick in panels of 10-inch width and three different lengths (approximately 10, 26, and 30 inch). Data were obtained for the bowing of transverse and longitudinal ribs of rectangular cross section and varying depths mounted on one side of the sheet only, for several ratios of compression to shear loads. Limiting values of the moments of inertia were calculated from these measurements. The experimental values exceed the theoretical values given by Timoshenko for the case of simply supported sheets with uniformly distributed boundary stresses. The work reported includes measurements of the effective shear moduli of the nine test panels with and without ribs. These data are compared with values published by Lahdo and Wagner

Missouri grain producers today rely upon a few traditional crops such as corn, grain sorghum, soybeans and wheat. Canola and other alternative crops can help reduce the income risk associated with market fluctuations or weather/pest production losses affecting these primary crops

Short Term Climatological Wind Data as a Tool for Wind Forecasting
Utilizing short-term climatological wind data can enhance wind speed and wind direction forecasts. An analysis of regional or tower-based wind rose summaries can be useful forecast guides especially when synoptic-scale pressure gradients are weak. Predictive data from multiple models can be plotted against short-term climatological wind data to assess deviations from expected norms and differences between forecast models. Site-specific comparisons between predicted data and observed climatological distributions can provide further insights to the forecaster. These methods can be applied to any location where sufficient climatological data (at least two years) is available
Prevalence of Hepatitis C Virus Antibody in Patients With Sexually Transmitted Diseases Attending a Harrisburg, PA, STD Clinic
Objective: The prevalence of hepatitis B and hepatitis C in a sexually
transmitted disease (STD) clinic population was studied, along with the prevalence of
various STD agents, in an attempt to identify possible STD markers for the hepatitis C
virus and help delineate the role of hepatitis C as an STD. The hepatitis C antibody rates
found in the STD clinic were also compared with those found among patients attending a
local OB/GYN clinic and those enrolled in a blood donor program, all from the same
geographical area
Constraints on the Universal CIV Mass Density at z~6 from Early IR Spectra Obtained with the Magellan FIRE Spectrograph
We present a new determination of the intergalactic CIV mass density at 4.3 <
z < 6.3. Our constraints are derived from high signal-to-noise spectra of seven
quasars at z > 5.8 obtained with the newly commissioned FIRE spectrograph on
the Magellan Baade telescope, coupled with six observations of northern objects
taken from the literature. We confirm the presence of a downturn in the CIV
abundance at =5.66 by a factor of 4.1 relative to its value at =4.96, as
measured in the same sightlines. In the FIRE sample, a strong system previously
reported in the literature as CIV at z=5.82 is re-identified as MgII at z=2.78,
leading to a substantial downward revision in for these prior
studies. Additionally we confirm the presence of at least two systems with
low-ionization CII, SiII, and OI absorption but relatively weak signal from
CIV. The latter systems systems may be of interest if the downward trend in
