Weight and see: Line bisection in neglect reliably measures the allocation of attention, but not the perception of length
Line bisection has long been a routine test for unilateral neglect, along with a range of tests requiring cancellation, copying or drawing. However, several studies have reported that line bisection, as classically administered, correlates relatively poorly with the other tests of neglect, to the extent that some authors have questioned its status as a valid test of neglect. In this article, we re-examine this issue, employing a novel method for administering and analysing line bisection proposed by McIntosh et al. (2005). We report that the measure of attentional bias yielded by this new method (EWB) correlates significantly more highly with cancellation, copying and drawing measures than the classical line bisection error measure in a sample of 50 right-brain damaged patients. Furthermore when EWB was combined with a second measure that emerges from the new analysis (EWS), even higher correlations were obtained. A Principal Components Analysis found that EWB loaded highly on a major factor representing neglect asymmetry, while EWS loaded on a second factor which we propose may measure overall attentional investment. Finally, we found that tests of horizontal length and size perception were related poorly to other measures of neglect in our group. We conclude that this novel approach to interpreting line bisection behaviour provides a promising way forward for understanding the nature of neglect
Analyzing Morton's Typology of Service Paradigms and Integrity
Research on college students found limited support for Mortonâs (1995) hypothesis that students have a preference for one distinct type of service orientation (i.e., charity, project, social change). The findings did replicate previous findings that college students prefer the charity paradigm. A measure of integrity was developed and two dimensions were identified that possessed distinct correlates. As Morton predicted, as the degree of integrity increased the preference for a distinct type of service became blurred, suggesting that developing integrity should be an intentional educational goal and it might be aided by exposing students to all three approaches to community service. Implications for service-learning educators are discussed

The Impact of New EUV Diagnostics on CME-Related Kinematics
We present the application of novel diagnostics to the spectroscopic
observation of a Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) on disk by the Extreme Ultraviolet
Imaging Spectrometer (EIS) on the Hinode spacecraft. We apply a recently
developed line profile asymmetry analysis to the spectroscopic observation of
NOAA AR 10930 on 14-15 December 2006 to three raster observations before and
during the eruption of a 1000km/s CME. We see the impact that the observer's
line-of-sight and magnetic field geometry have on the diagnostics used.
Further, and more importantly, we identify the on-disk signature of a
high-speed outflow behind the CME in the dimming region arising as a result of
the eruption. Supported by recent coronal observations of the STEREO
spacecraft, we speculate about the momentum flux resulting from this outflow as
a secondary momentum source to the CME. The results presented highlight the
importance of spectroscopic measurements in relation to CME kinematics, and the
need for full-disk synoptic spectroscopic observations of the coronal and
chromospheric plasmas to capture the signature of such explosive energy release
as a way of providing better constraints of CME propagation times to L1, or any

Phylogenetic Relationships of Southern African West Nile Virus Isolates
Phylogenetic relationships were examined for 29 southern African West Nile virus (formal name West Nile virus [WNV]) isolates from various sources in four countries from 1958 to 2001. In addition sequence data were retrieved from GenBank for another 23 WNV isolates and Kunjin and Japanese encephalitis viruses. All isolates belonged to two lineages. Lineage 1 isolates were from central and North Africa, Europe, Israel, and North America; lineage 2 isolates were from central and southern Africa and Madagascar. No strict correlation existed between grouping and source of virus isolate, pathogenicity, geographic distribution, or year of isolation. Some southern African isolates have been associated with encephalitis in a human, a horse, and a dog and with fatal hepatitis in a human and death of an ostrich chick
The Post-Eruptive Evolution of a Coronal Dimming
We discuss the post-eruptive evolution of a "coronal dimming" based on
observations of the EUV corona from the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory and
the Transition Region and Coronal Explorer. This discussion highlights the
roles played by magnetoconvection-driven magnetic reconnection and the global
magnetic environment of the plasma in the "filling" and apparent motion of the
region following the eruption of a coronal mass ejection (CME). A crucial
element in our understanding of the dimming region evolution is developed by
monitoring the disappearance and reappearance of bright TRACE "moss" around the
active region giving rise to the CME. We interpret the change in the TRACE moss
as a proxy of the changing coronal magnetic field topology behind the CME
front. We infer that the change in global magnetic topology also results in a
shift of energy balance in the process responsible for the production of the
moss emission while the coronal magnetic topology evolves from closed, to open
and back to closed again because, following the eruption, the moss reforms
around the active region in almost exactly its pre-event configuration. As a
result of the moss evolution, combining our discussion with recent
spectroscopic results of an equatorial coronal hole, we suggest that the
interchangeable use of the term "transient coronal hole" to describe a coronal

Summary of second annual MCBK public meeting: Mobilizing Computable Biomedical KnowledgeâA movement to accelerate translation of knowledge into action
The volume of biomedical knowledge is growing exponentially and much of this knowledge is represented in computer executable formats, such as models, algorithms and programmatic code. There is a growing need to apply this knowledge to improve health in Learning Health Systems, health delivery organizations, and other settings. However, most organizations do not yet have the infrastructure required to consume and apply computable knowledge, and national policies and standards adoption are not sufficient to ensure that it is discoverable and used safely and fairly, nor is there widespread experience in the process of knowledge implementation as clinical decision support. The Mobilizing Computable Biomedical Knowledge (MCBK) community formed in 2016 to address these needs.
