Preposition Stranding and que-deletion in Varieties of North American French.

Comparative studies of the differences between North-American varieties of French (NAF) and Standard French (SF) reveal that most variation is found in the lexical and phonological systems. This type of variation is well-documented. However, this is not the case for the syntactic component, which could lead one to believe that there are very few syntactic differences between NAF and SF. This article deals with some differences between NAF and SF in the prepositional and complementizer systems. More precisely, we argue that the fact that stranded prepositions appear more freely in NAF than in SF is related to facts regarding variation in the complementizer system

Cet article constitue un examen critique de la contribution à l'explication qu'une théorie grammaticale qui intègre le concept de 'paramètre' peut apporter. Il est démontré que le concept de paramètre est utile et nécessaire mais que le recours à celui-ci doit se faire de façon circonspecte pour qu'il puisse être considéré comme explicatif et devenir davantage qu'un simple mécanisme descriptif. A cette fin, nous proposons qu'il existe deux types de paramètres: ceux de haut niveau (réductibles) et ceux de bas niveau (irréductibles). La place des disciplines dans le décrochage

Didacticien du français et professeur émérite à l’Université de Lille en France, Yves REUTER s’intéresse à la didactique de l’écriture, à la didactique comparée et aux pédagogies alternatives. Pédagogie collégiale l’a rencontré, à distance en ces temps de confinement international, pour discuter des moyens de comprendre le décrochage scolaire, y compris au postsecondaire.Comprend des références bibliographiques.Au Québec, avec raison, on s’inquiète du décrochage scolaire au secondaire puisque l’obtention du diplôme d’études secondaires est essentielle pour bon nombre d’emplois. Toutefois, on s’inquiète moins du décrochage scolaire au collégial sur la place publique bien que, bon an mal an, autour de 63 % des étudiants inscrits dans le réseau collégial obtiennent leur diplôme et que ce taux n’a pas changé depuis 20 ans (Chaput, 2019). Le chantier sur la réussite, mis sur pied à l’automne 2019 par le ministère de l’Enseignement supérieur (MES) et de nombreux partenaires, souligne à grand trait qu’on devrait s’y intéresser, même si la « réussite » est un concept avec des contours flous, parce que le milieu n’a jamais vraiment pris le temps de définir ce qu’est la réussite éducative. Dans toutes ces réflexions, on parle peu de l’importance des disciplines scolaires lorsqu’il est question du décrochage aux études supérieures. Même s’il est impossible de se comparer, le réseau collégial étant un modèle unique, il est pertinent de s’intéresser à ce qui se dit ailleurs dans le monde sur la place des disciplines dans le décrochage scolaire et de s’inspirer des réflexions transférables au réseau collégial
