Parallel Flow Graph Matching for Automated Program Recognition

    Get PDF
A flow graph matching algorithm has been implemented on the Connection Machine which employs parallel techniques to allow efficient subgraph matching. By constructing many different matchings in parallel, the algorithm is able to perform subgraph matching in polynomial time in the size of the graphs. The automated program recognition system can use this algorithm to help make a more efficient flow graph parser. The process of automated program recognition involves recognizing familiar data structures and algorithmic fragments (called clichés) in a program so that a hierarchical description of the program can be constructed. The recognition is done by representing the program as a flow graph and parsing it with a graph grammar which encodes the clichés. In order to find clichés in the midst of unfamiliar code, it is necessary to run the parser on all possible subgraphs of the graph, thus starting the parser an exponential number of times. This is too inefficient for practical use on large programs, so this algorithm has been implemented to allow the matchings to be performed in polynomial time.MIT Artificial Intelligence Laborator

Growing of biomorphic nanomaterials based on calcium carbonate

Calcium carbonate was produced by precipitation: oil bath and ultra-sounds, being studied several parameters such as: temperature, magnetic stir speed, concentration of the reagents, duration of the reaction and the medium of the reaction. Samples rested for a month before some of the precipitated was removed, washed and dried to get the powder characterized without any secondary product or the solvent of the reaction. Dip-coating technique was also used to produce calcium carbonate with an organic matrix (PVP - Polyvinylpyrrolidone) in an attempt to produce artificial nacre. Several parameters were also modified: number of coating cycles, temperature, dip and dry time; presence/absence of an in-between step and dipping speed. Two anhydrous polymorphs of calcium carbonate were produced from both methods: vaterite and calcite. Some samples were characterized by XRD (X-ray Diffraction), Raman Spectroscopy and were analysed by SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy). Spectrophotometry was also used to analyse the absorbance/transmittance and reflectance of some dip-coated samples. The samples with an organic matrix showed a very high transmittance in the infra-red region and a very low transmittance in the visible region unlike samples with just inorganic layers indicating the possibility of formation of an organic/inorganic complex

A Work Project, presented as part of the requirements for the Award of a Double Degree in Economics from NOVA School of Business and Economics and Maastricht School of Business and EconomicsIn this thesis a large panel of data on Portuguese workers is used to estimate the effect of the entry of the first graduate in a firm in his colleagues’ productivity. Propensity Score Matching is the methodology used and robustness tests are also presented to reinforce the credibility of the results. A spillover of approximately 5.10% is found, which means that the hiring of the first college graduate is an important stage in the development of a firm which benefits all workers. It is also shown that small firms benefit more from the entry of the first college graduate, specifically, firms with 5 or less employees had a spillover effect of around 9.63%.NSBE - UN

Traumatic Neuroma Following Sagittal Split Osteotomy of the Mandible

A 16-year-old male underwent bilateral sagittal split osteotomy of the mandible to correct a mandibular deficiency. Twenty-one years later, a routine panoramic radiograph revealed a radiolucent lesion on the left side of the mandible. The lesion was biopsied. As the patient did not have symptoms and the lesion was connected to the inferior alveolar nerve, the lesion was not totally excised in order to preserve nerve function. The histological features were consistent with traumatic neuroma, and no further surgical procedure was planned

The Santa Catarina#s Serra Geral and the Guarani Groundwater System are linked since its geological origin until the real disposition of water resources in that State. That connection figure today a variety of interactions between the physical, environmental, and legal aspects. The intent of this work is to clarify the relationships between the Serra Geral, the Guarani Aquifer and the protection of water resources. This theme proposed here comes from a range of previous research that have already been done within the transdisciplinary group of hydrologic studies GTHIDRO # UFSC, and are directly connected with the projects: Ecology and Mountain People that begins after the creation of International Mountain#s Day by the United Nations at the year of 2002, when they mark the importance of fragile and Mountain ecosystems, including in the agenda 21 a new chapter about significance and particularities of that kind of ecosystems. Also like the Guarani Aquifer Project which has several studies related to surface and groundwater protection in the State of Santa Catarina, Brazil. The main goal of this master thesis is to characterize the relationships between Santa Catarina#s Serra Geral and the Guarani Aquifer as a Subsidy for Water management. This work was developed trough lectures research, related bibliography, maps, charts, aerial photographs examination, hydrological characteristics analysis and a study of applicable legal aspects, and the confection of digital figures and maps. With this research we try to reach the following results: a) Develop the characterization of geologic and geomorphologic aspects of Serra Geral and the Guarani Aquifer also like its relationships with actual disposition of water resources in that State. b) Production of pedagogic resource to the comprehension about the origin and actuality of Guarani Aquifer, its relationship with water resources and the development of Geological aspects of the landscape
