がんが宿主の臓器に及ぼす悪影響を捉えた --がんをもつ個体における「肝機能の空間的制御」の破綻--. 京都大学プレスリリース. 2023-02-01.The spatially organized gene expression program within the liver specifies hepatocyte functions according to their relative distances to the bloodstream (i.e., zonation), contributing to liver homeostasis. Despite the knowledge that solid cancers remotely disrupt liver homeostasis, it remains unexplored whether solid cancers affect liver zonation. Here, using spatial transcriptomics, we thoroughly investigate the abundance and zonation of hepatic genes in cancer-bearing mice. We find that breast cancers affect liver zonation in various distinct manners depending on biological pathways. Aspartate metabolism and triglyceride catabolic processes retain relatively intact zonation patterns, but the zonation of xenobiotic catabolic process genes exhibits a strong disruption. The acute phase response is induced in zonated manners. Furthermore, we demonstrate that breast cancers activate innate immune cells in particular neutrophils in distinct zonated manners, rather than in a uniform fashion within the liver. Collectively, breast cancers disorganize hepatic transcriptomes in zonated manners, thereby disrupting zonated functions of the liver

Evaluation of complications of kidney transplantation using artificial neural networks

The aim of this study was to develop an artificial neural network (ANN) to differentiate between rejection, acute tubular necrosis (ATN) and normally functioning kidneys in a group of patients with renal transplants. The performance of ANN was compared with that of an experienced observer using a database of 35 patients\u27 records, each of which included 12 quantitative parameters derived from renograms and clinical data as well as a clinical evaluation. These findings were encoded as features for a three-layered neural network to predict the outcome of biopsy or clinical diagnosis. The network was trained and tested using the jackknife method and its performance was then compared to that of a radiologist. The network was able to correctly classify 31 of the 35 original cases and gave a better diagnostic accuracy (88%) than the radiologist (83%), by showing an association between the quantitative data and the corresponding pathological results (r = 0.78, P < 0.001). We conclude that an ANN can be trained to differentiate rejection from acute tubular necrosis, as well as normally functioning transplants, with a reasonable degree of accuracy

CoBuilt 4.0 : investigating the potential of collaborative robotics for subject matter experts

Human-robot interactions can offer alternatives and new pathways for construction industries, industrial growth and skilled labour, particularly in a context of industry 4.0. This research investigates the potential of collaborative robots (CoBots) for the construction industry and subject matter experts; by surveying industry requirements and assessments of CoBot acceptance; by investing processes and sequences of work protocols for standard architecture robots; and by exploring motion capture and tracking systems for a collaborative framework between human and robot co-workers. The research investigates CoBots as a labour and collaborative resource for construction processes that require precision, adaptability and variability. Thus, this paper reports on a joint industry, government and academic research investigation in an Australian construction context. In section 1, we introduce background data to architecture robotics in the context of construction industries and reports on three sections. Section 2 reports on current industry applications and survey results from industry and trade feedback for the adoption of robots specifically to task complexity, perceived safety, and risk awareness. Section 3, as a result of research conducted in Section 2, introduces a pilot study for carpentry task sequences with capture of computable actions. Section 4 provides a discussion of results and preliminary findings. Section 5 concludes with an outlook on how the capture of computable actions provide the foundation to future research for capturing motion and machine learning
