    Software-based Implementation of Secure AES Frame Encryption (SAFE) for CAN FD in Multicore Environment

    The SAFE kernel software implementation was born as an inexpensive alternative from the original implementation which uses a field programmable gate array (FPGA). This paper proposes to replace the FPGA with a microprocessor, which will drastically reduce the cost of the implementation. The new implementation includes the MIMXRT1170 EVK that integrates two microprocessors, a Cortex M4 running at 400 MHz and a Cortex M7 running at 1 GHz. After the software implementation, the multicore environment met the required time deadlines and achieved the desire performance, keeping the CAN FD bus occupation at 100% and the encryption and decryption time less than 50 microseconds, which represents 25% of the microprocessor overhead. In future works the implementation could be adjusted to one microprocessor, such as the cortex M7 due to it is powerful capability to process data which also reduces the cost and the complexity of the implementation.ITESO, A.     Background Plasminogen activator inhibitor 1 (PAI-1) and resistin are associated with dysfunctional adipose tissue (AT)-related metabolic complications. The role of dietary eicosapentaenoic (EPA) and docosahexaenoic (DHA) fatty acids in this relationship is unknown. Aim To investigate the association of EPA and DHA with PAI-1 and resistin, as well as the role of this association on the glucose metabolism of apparently healthy subjects. Subjects and methods Thirty-six healthy individuals were included. Validated food frequency questionnaires were used to analyse dietary habits. Inflammatory and glucose metabolism markers were quantified. Subcutaneous AT samples were obtained, and adipocyte number, area, and macrophage content were assessed. Results In 36 subjects aged 56 ± 8 years and with a body mass index of 26 ± 4 kg/m2, logEPA, and logDHA showed significant association with logresistin and a marginal association with PAI-1. Adipocyte number, area, and lognumber of macrophages per adipocyte significantly correlated with PAI-1 but not with logresistin. Although logEPA and logDHA were independently associated with loginsulin, loginsulin resistance, and C-Peptide, the addition of logresistin, but not of PAI-1, into the multivariable model, abolished the associations. Conclusions EPA and DHA could modulate glucose metabolism across AT functional states. Our data indicate that this association is independent of other metabolic risk factors

    Treatment patterns in anticoagulant therapy in patients with newly diagnosed atrial fibrillation in Belgium: results from the GARFIELD-AF registry

    Background: AF, anticoagulation, NOACs, changing patterns of prescription. Methods: We describe baseline data and treatment patterns of patients recruited in Belgium in the Global Anticoagulant Registry in the FIELD-Atrial Fibrillation (GARFIELD-AF). Recruitment began when novel oral anticoagulants (NOACs) were introduced and provides a unique picture of changing treatment patterns over time. 1713 patients with a new (= 2), anticoagulants were used in 84.3%, leaving 15.7% unprotected. In low risk patients (CHA(2)DS(2)-VASc 0-1) anticoagulants were overused (58.7%). Factor Xa inhibitors were used more frequently than direct thrombin inhibitors. Conclusion: Guideline adherence on stroke prevention was higher in Belgium than in the rest of Europe, and increased over time. NOAC use in Belgium was the highest of Europe at the study start, with many countries catching up later. Possible reasons are discussed
