Chiral Perturbation Theory for Tensor Mesons

    Get PDF
Interactions of a2,K2,f2a_2, K^*_2, f_2 and f2f_2' tensor-mesons with low-energy π,K,η,η\pi, K, \eta, \eta' pseudo-scalar mesons are constrained by chiral symmetry. We derive a chiral Lagrangian of tensor mesons in which the tensor mesons are treated as heavy non-relativistic matter fields. Using 1/Nc1/N_c counting, we derive relations among unknown couplings of the chiral Lagrangian. Chiral perturbation theory is applied to the tensor-meson mass matrix. At one-loop there are large corrections to the individual tensor meson masses, but the singlet-octet mixing angle remains almost unchanged. We argue that all heavy mesons of spin 1\ge 1 share common feature of chiral dynamics.Comment: Latex, 9 pages, no figure

The author develops a more systematic theoretical articulation of the term ethnography related to the visual and, in particular, to some of the most outstanding features of the contemporary Chinese cinema. Specifcally, Chow argues that visuality can helpfully provide us with the subjective origins of ethnography as well as it was practised by the formerly ethnographized who actively worked on ethnographizing themselves and their cultures in the postcolonial age. Troughout this essay, Chow's discussion on ethnography intertwines with a detailed analysis of translation between cultures. Starting from the example of the contemporary Chinese cinema, Chow assumes that the critique that accuses Zhang Yimou and his contemporaries of pandering to the "foreign devil" can be rephrased through our traditional ideas on translation. In this case, "original" does not strictly refer to language, but to "China" as the total amount of one's country and history. "China" is conceived of as the content and the essential meaning which develops "before" the film. When the critics state that Zhang's flms lack of depth, they usually mean that the language into which "China" is translated is a betrayal since it doesn't tell the truth about "China"

Age and growth of redfish (Sebastes marinus, S. mentella, and S. fasciatus) on the Flemish Cap (Northwest Atlantic)

12 pages, 5 figures.-- Presented at the NAFO Deep-Sea Fisheries Symposium (Varadero, Cuba, Sep 12-14, 2001).Age determination of redfish is difficult. In this paper, the ages of Sebastes mentella on the Flemish Cap are validated by following year classes from 1991 to 2000. The criteria used for S. mentella are consistent and coherent. The growth of different year classes is described and compared, and density-dependence is demonstrated to influence the growth rate of the strong 1990 year class, growth of that year class being the slowest of those followed. The slow rate of growth prevented that year class from maturing at the anticipated age. Growth is also compared between sexes, of S. mentella, S. marinus, and S. fasciatus, revealing that females grow faster than males. Finally, growth rate is compared among species. S. marinus grows fastest and S. mentella slowest, although the influence of density-dependent growth in S. mentella needs to be taken into consideration. The study was supported by the European Commission through several research projects.Peer reviewe
