XVI International Congress of Control Electronics and Telecommunications: "Techno-scientific considerations for a post-pandemic world intensive in knowledge, innovation and sustainable local development"

This title, suggestive of the impacts during the Covid 19 situation in the world, and which have unfortunately been very critical in Colombia, allows us to assume the obligatory overcoming of social, political, and economic tensions; but above all scientific and technological. Initially, this supposes the existence of a capacity of Colombian society to recover its initial state after the disturbance to which it was subjected by the catastrophic pandemic has ceased, and to overcome that previous state of affairs since it was found -and still is find - many local problems poorly resolved, moderately resolved, and many unresolved: that is, an existing social resilience test will have to be redesigned and strengthened - product of the prolonged Colombian social conflict partially overcome by a successful peace process - from local technoscience; As Markus Brunnermeier - German economist and professor of economics at Princeton University - indicates in his book The Resilient Society...The question is not to foresee everything but to be able to react...learn to recover quickly.Bogot

A comprehensive reputation assessment framework for volunteered geographic information in crowdsensing applications

    No full text
Volunteered geographic information (VGI) is the result of activities where individuals, supported by enabling technologies, behave like physical sensors by harvesting and organizing georeferenced content, usually in their surroundings. Both researchers and organizations have recognized the value of VGI content, however this content is typically heterogeneous in quality and spatial coverage. As a consequence, in order for applications to benefit from it, its quality and reliability need to be assessed in advance. This may not be easy since, typically, it is unknown how the process of collecting and organizing the VGI content has been conducted and by whom. In the literature, various proposals focus on an indirect process of quality assessment based on reputation scores. Following this perspective, the present paper provides as main contributions: (i) a multi-layer architecture for VGI which supports a process of reputation evaluation; (ii) a new comprehensive model for computing reputation scores for both VGI data and contributors, based on direct and indirect evaluations expressed by users, and including the concept of data aging; (iii) a variety of experiments evaluating the accuracy of the model. Finally, the relevance of adopting this framework is discussed via an applicative scenario for recommending tourist itineraries

Towards Semantic Interpretation of Movement Behavior

    No full text
In this paper we aim at providing a model for the conceptual representation and deductive reasoning of trajectory patterns obtained from mining raw trajectories. This has been achieved by means of a semantic enrichment process, where raw trajectories are enhanced with semantic information and integrated with geographical knowledge encoded in an ontology. The reasoning mechanisms provided by the chosen ontology formalism are exploited to accomplish a further semantic enrichment step that gives a possible interpretation of discovered patterns in terms of movement behaviour. A sketch of the realised system, called Athena, is given, along with some examples to demonstrate the feasibility of the approach

Application of the taboo search in solving the qualified problem of lotification in multilevel production systems: a state of the art

    No full text
In this work, a study of the application of the taboo search for the resolution of the problem of production planning in multilevel systems with capacity restrictions is approached from the literature. This family of problems is classified in the literature as Np-Hard. Relaxation and search strategies, especially Taboo Search, have played a decisive role in the development of alternative solutions for this type of problem, allowing to obtain solutions close to the optimal minimum cost value, in operationally acceptable times. The purpose of this article is to collect, describe and analyze the use and application of taboo search in the solution of the problem of lotification in multilevel production systems. Contemplating the large number of variations of the problem and emphasizing the methodology used and the configuration of the search, it is intended to establish the baseline for the development of new solution algorithms for the lotification problem.

Fractal Complexity of a New Biparametric Family of Fourth Optimal Order Based on the Ermakov–Kalitkin Scheme

    No full text
In this paper, we generalize the scheme proposed by Ermakov and Kalitkin and present a class of two-parameter fourth-order optimal methods, which we call Ermakov’s Hyperfamily. It is a substantial improvement of the classical Newton’s method because it optimizes one that extends the regions of convergence and is very stable. Another novelty is that it is a class containing as particular cases some classical methods, such as King’s family. From this class, we generate a new uniparametric family, which we call the KLAM, containing the classical Ostrowski and Chun, whose efficiency, stability, and optimality has been proven but also new methods that in many cases outperform these mentioned, as we prove. We demonstrate that it is of a fourth order of convergence, as well as being computationally efficienct. A dynamical study is performed allowing us to choose methods with good stability properties and to avoid chaotic behavior, implicit in the fractal structure defined by the Julia set in the related dynamic planes. Some numerical tests are presented to confirm the theoretical results and to compare the proposed methods with other known methods

Creation and Use of Lexicons and Ontologies for Natural Language Interface to Databases

    No full text
In this paper we present an original approach to natural language query interpretation which has been implemented within the FuLL (Fuzzy Logic and Language) Italian project of BC S.r.l. In particular, we discuss here the creation of linguistic and ontological resources, together with the exploitation of existing ones, for natural language-driven database access and retrieval. Both the database and the queries we experiment with are Italian, but the methodology we broach naturally extends to other languages
