Extended edge silhouette detection algorithm to create real-time shadow volume

    Get PDF
A new algorithm to recognize occluder silhouette to generate shadow volume with some improvement of the traditional shadow volume algorithm is proposed. We named the new algorithm as Extended Edge Silhouette Detection (EESD). Silhouette detection is one of the expensive processes of shadow volumes. The triangular algorithm and visible-non-visible algorithm that are famous algorithms to detect the outline of occluder are renewed. An accurate comparison between these algorithms and a new algorithm has been done. The algorithm is to detect silhouette and decreases the cost of implementation of shadow volume. The obtained results confirm superiority of the proposed algorithm in terms of processing time compared to the previously used traditional algorithms. The last shadow volume algorithm using stencil buffer is rewritten and an algorithm for shadow volume with silhouette detection together is proposed

The final publication is available at IOS Press through http://dx.doi.org/10.3233/978-1-61499-902-7-523.Lean implementation and its sustainability are strongly coupled with organizational culture and consequently the culture defines success. Organizational culture is strongly linked with organizational dynamics. Work standardization is one of the lean tools whose role in terms of organizational performance improvement has been claimed in the literature; however, its implications in terms of employee's perceptions are still controversial. This study aims at investigating the effect of position on employee's perception about the standardized work. Four textile manufacturing companies in Pakistan were selected for the purpose of data collection, where the implementation level of the tool and organizational maturity towards lean adoption were initially measured. A questionnaire was administered to 326 employees from these organizations. The overall data sample was divided into two categories (white-collar and blue-collar). Data analysis was by F-tests (for identifying significance levels) and separate regression analyses (for identifying variables associated with negative perceptions of employees). A significant difference was found between white-collar employees, who were generally positive about the standardization of work, and the blue-collar employees that had negative perceptions. Moreover, the study concluded that positive perceptions about standardized work are directly linked with job satisfaction and inversely linked with job stress

© 2018 IEEE. This paper presents the implementation of a variant of the famous particle swarm optimization, known as Accelerated Particle Swarm Optimization (APSO), on a non-cascaded or a two-unit hydro-thermal system with consideration of hydal pumping in light loading intervals of hydro-thermal scheduling period. APSO is an easy to program and easy to implement variant of Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) that has the ability to converge to a good approximate to global optimum within a few iterations. A standard pumped-storage hydrothermal scheduling problem, discussed in existing literature, is considered for the implementation of APSO. A comparison of this implementation is also given with the previously existing implementations of other algorithms

Comprehensive enlightenment is one of the fundamental components that virtualize the real environment. Accordingly, sky shading is one of the important components considered in the virtualization process. This research introduces the Dobashi method of sky luminance; additionally, Radiosity Caster Culling is applied to the virtual objects as the second thought for outside illumination. Pre-Computed Radiance Transfer is connected to ascertain the division of patches. Moreover, for real sky shading, the Perez model is utilized. By pre-ascertaining sky shading vitality and outside light, the vitality of the entire open air is figured ahead of time. The open air vitality is shared on virtual articles to make the situations more practical. Commercial videos and cartoon creators could utilize the strategy to produce real outside situations. © 2017

    Get PDF
The study was undertaken to enhance the production of b-galactosidase using five organic nitrogen sources with wheat bran as a substrate under solid state fermentation. The microbial source Aspergillus niger and its DG-resistant mutant that were grown in medium with initial pH of 5.5 in 250 ml flasks at 30°C for 144 h and sample was harvested after every 24 h and analysed for substrate consumption, cell mass formation and enzyme production. All the nitrogen sources, ammonium sulphate, corn steep liquor, diammonium phosphate, fish meal and urea showed significant results. However, higher values of enzyme activity of 168.0 and 371.15 IU/l/h, parent and mutant, respectively, was obtained from sample in which corn steep liquor was used as a nitrogen source as compared tocontrol (73.1 and 176.3 IU/l/h in parent and mutant, respectively). The effect of nitrogen sources was also found significant in both the organisms but higher in mutant organism (2.2 fold). It is concluded that enzyme production enhanced 2.7 fold by use of suitable production medium under optimum cultural conditions and that the mutant derivative of A. niger can be exploited for hyper production of this enzyme

Marker hiding methods: Applications in augmented reality

    Get PDF
© 2015 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.In augmented reality, the markers are noticeable by their simple design of a rectangular image with black and white areas that disturb the reality of the overall view. As the markerless techniques are not usually robust enough, hiding the markers has a valuable usage, which many researchers have focused on. Categorizing the marker hiding methods is the main motivation of this study, which explains each of them in detail and discusses the advantages and shortcomings of each. The main ideas, enhancements, and future works of the well-known techniques are also comprehensively summarized and analyzed in depth. The main goal of this study is to provide researchers who are interested in markerless or hiding-marker methods an easier approach for choosing the method that is best suited to their aims. This work reviews the different methods that hide the augmented reality marker by using information from its surrounding area. These methods have considerable differences in their smooth continuation of the textures that hide the marker area as well as their performance to hide the augmented reality marker in real time. It is also hoped that our analysis helps researchers find solutions to the drawbacks of each method. © 201

Motorcycle three-wheelers in Pakistan: Low-cost rural transport services, crucial for women’s mobility

    Get PDF
Rural women and men without their own means of transport depend on transport services. In low- and middle-income countries these are mainly provided by informal sector entrepreneurs. In Pakistan, motorcycle three-wheelers (designed as six-seater, route-based vehicles) provide most rural transport services. Research was undertaken in three districts of Punjab Province, with traffic counts and surveys of transport users. Motorcycles are increasing rapidly, and men’s use of transport services is declining. The traffic counts showed motorcycles for personal and family use carry almost half of the people travelling. Women are increasingly passengers on motorcycles driven by male relatives, but these are seldom available for women’s multipurpose trips during the daytime. On village-to-town roads, motorcycle three-wheelers are the only low-cost (two cents USD per passenger-km) public transport throughout the day. Point-to-point taxis are more costly. Most (55%) of women’s public transport journeys are in three-wheelers. Women and men rate motorcycle three-wheelers highly, particularly their fares and frequency. Women have a greater willingness to pay more for less crowded, safer vehicles than men. It is concluded that the informal sector motorcycle three-wheeler services are optimising village-to-town transport connections, providing the only low-cost travel option for many rural women. Policies should avoid disrupting their vital services. With motorcycle growth undermining transport services, gender-aware strategies should be developed to facilitate frequent, uncrowded three-wheeler operations
