Ethnomedicinal Observations Among the Kondareddis of Khammam District, Andhra Pradesh, India
Ethnomedicinal information of Kondareddis has been collected from Khammam district of Andhra Pradesh, India during 2006-2008. A total of 40 plant species belonging to 39 genera and 31 families were used in traditional medicine to heal different diseases. The present work is an attempt to identify and conserve the medicinal plants in Khammam district. The study shows a high degree of ethnobotanical novelty and the use of plants among the Kondareddis reflects the revival of interest in traditional folk culture
Trust Based Participant Driven Privacy Control in Participatory Sensing
Widespread use of sensors and multisensory personal devices generate a lot of
personal information. Sharing this information with others could help in
various ways. However, this information may be misused when shared with all.
Sharing of information between trusted parties overcomes this problem. This
paper describes a model to share information based on interactions and opinions
to build trust among peers. It also considers institutional and other controls,
which influence the behaviour of the peers. The trust and control build
confidence. The computed confidence bespeaks whether to reveal information or
not thereby increasing trusted cooperation among peers.Comment: 14 page
Bioefficacy and dissipation of ?-cyfluthrin against white fly Bemisia tabaci Genn.) in okra (Abelomoschus esculentus L.)
A field experiment was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of different insecticides viz., bifenthrin, flubendiamide, fipronil, quinalphos, pronofos and ?-cyfluthrin against white fly (Bemisia tabaci) of okra (Abelomoschus esculentus) by spraying twice. Among the insecticides evaluated, ? cyfluthrin at 18.75 g a.iha-1 was found to be the effective by registering 57.00 and 54.21 per cent reduction of whitefly (B. abaci) during first and second sprays, respectively. Further ?-cyfluthrin at 18.75 g a. i ha-1 was subjected to dissipation studies by collecting okra (A. esculentus) fruit samples at interval of zero, one, three, five, seven, 10 and 15 days after last spray. Results of the dissipation studies showed that the initial deposits of ?-cyfluthrin (18.75 g a.iha-1) in okra (A. esculentus) fruit sample was registered to be 0.11 mg kg-1 and dissipated to below detectable level (BDL) within five days after spray
The dynamics and control of large flexible space structures-V
A general survey of the progress made in the areas of mathematical modelling of the system dynamics, structural analysis, development of control algorithms, and simulation of environmental disturbances is presented. The use of graph theory techniques is employed to examine the effects of inherent damping associated with LSST systems on the number and locations of the required control actuators. A mathematical model of the forces and moments induced on a flexible orbiting beam due to solar radiation pressure is developed and typical steady state open loop responses obtained for the case when rotations and vibrations are limited to occur within the orbit plane. A preliminary controls analysis based on a truncated (13 mode) finite element model of the 122m. Hoop/Column antenna indicates that a minimum of six appropriately placed actuators is required for controllability. An algorithm to evaluate the coefficients which describe coupling between the rigid rotational and flexible modes and also intramodal coupling was developed and numerical evaluation based on the finite element model of Hoop/Column system is currently in progress
Magnetic properties of Al, V, Mn, and Ru impurities in Fe–Co alloys
Theoretical studies on the magnetic properties of impurities in Fe–Co alloys have been carried out using a molecular-orbital approach within a gradient corrected density functional formalism. The defected alloy is modeled by a large cluster and the calculations on the ordered alloy are used to show that a cluster containing 67 atoms can provide quantitative information on the local magnetic moment. It is found that although bulk Al, V, and Ru are nonmagnetic, all the impurities carry finite moments. While Al and V impurities couple antiferromagnetically, Ru impurities couple ferromagnetically to the host sites. It is shown that the observed composition dependence of the rate of increase of magnetic moment of FexCo1−x alloys upon addition of Mn impurities is due to the change in the magnetic moment of Mn impurities with composition. The reasons for this change and the possibility of stabilizing a higher Mn moment at all concentrations are discussed
Changes in the ducts of the glands of the hard palate in reverse smokers
Three hundred fifty-nine cases of stomatitis nicotina were studied in reverse smokers of home made chuttas. One hundred thirty-five biopsies of papular unbilicated lesions of stomatitis nicotina were studied histopathologically. The biopsies were chosen after toluidine blue staining. Mild dysplastic to severe dysplastic changes were seen around the openings of the ducts of the glands. There were three cases of microinvasive carcinoma in the one hundred thirty-five biopsies. Cystic dilatation of the ducts, due to obstruction of the ducts by keratotic plugging, was not seen in stomatitis nicotina lesions but was seen in elderly women who had smoked reverse for more than 4 to 5 decades. The ducts of the glands could probably form a portal of entry for the tobacco pyrolytic products which may act as carcinogenics
Superconductivity in Ru substituted BaFe2-xRuxAs2
The occurrence of bulk superconductivity at ~22 K is reported in
polycrystalline samples of BaFe2-xRuxAs2 for nominal Ru content in the range of
x=0.75 to 1.125. A systematic suppression of the spin density wave transition
temperature (TSDW) precedes the appearance of superconductivity in the system.
A phase diagram is proposed based on the measured TSDW and superconducting
transition temperature (TC) variations as a function of Ru composition. Band
structure calculations, indicate introduction of electron carriers in the
system upon Ru substitutiom. The calculated magnetic moment on Fe shows a
minimum at x=1.0, suggesting that the suppression of the magnetic moment is
associated with the emergence of superconductivity. Results of low temperature
and high field Mossbauer measurements are presented. These indicate weakening
of magnetic interaction with Ru substitutionComment: 20 pages 10 figure
Experimental Evidence of Time Delay Induced Death in Coupled Limit Cycle Oscillators
Experimental observations of time delay induced amplitude death in a pair of
coupled nonlinear electronic circuits that are individually capable of
exhibiting limit cycle oscillations are described. In particular, the existence
of multiply connected death islands in the parameter space of the coupling
strength and the time delay parameter for coupled identical oscillators is
established. The existence of such regions was predicted earlier on theoretical
grounds in [Phys. Rev. Lett. 80, 5109 (1998); Physica 129D, 15 (1999)]. The
experiments also reveal the occurrence of multiple frequency states, frequency
suppression of oscillations with increased time delay and the onset of both
in-phase and anti-phase collective oscillations.Comment: 4 aps formatted RevTeX pages; 6 figures; to appear in Phys. Rev. Let
Development of Slide Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay (SELISA) for Detection of Trypanosoma evansi Infection in Bovines
The slide enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (SELISA) was standardized for detection of antibodies specific to Trypanosoma evansi and subsequently used for the screening of naturally infected bovine sera. A novel SELISA, a modification of the standard ELISA technique was used for the detection of antibodies against Trypanosoma evansi in bovines using positive and negative control sera. The test is based on immunostaining of the fixed whole Trypanosoma evansi organisms on microscopic glass slide, incubation with sera, antibovine IgG-HRPO conjugate and substrate Diaminobenzidine tetrahydrochloride (DAB). Finally the reaction was read under oil immersion of microscope. A total of 702 sera samples from bovines in Rayalaseema region of Andhra Pradesh were examined by SELISA and 192 were found positive for Trypanosoma evansi antibodies
