Secondary, security threat, and sage: Eulogy effect and the framing of female politicians as political martyrs in the Elite press of South Asia

How do newspapers frame female politicians, and does this framing change after a female politician\u27s death during an election campaign? Benazir Bhutto, who served two terms as prime minister of Pakistan, was assassinated in 2007 by a terrorist group. South Asian newspapers framed her as corrupt, inefficient, and a threat to national security before her death; however, the elite press characterized her as a martyr and sage posthumously. Using qualitative content analysis, this study examines the editorial coverage of two newspapers ( The Hindu and The Times of India) in India and two newspapers ( The News and The Dawn) in Pakistan to examine how these elite newspapers framed Benazir Bhutto before and after her tragic death. We found that the framing of the slain leader changed from negative to positive after her assassination. The study concludes that her assassination influenced the media coverage and produced a eulogy effect that helped her party stay in power after her assassination

PEMBELAJARAN LAGU YA MAULANA DALAM FORMAT VOCAL GROUP PADA SISWA SMAN 2 PADANGPANJANG

Pembelajaran vocal group lagu Ya Maulana  dilatar belakangi oleh keinginan penulis untuk menghadirkan suatu pembelajaran yang baru bagi siswa SMAN 2 Padangpanjang untuk meningkatkan kreatifitas siswa di bidang musik. Selain itu, dilatar belakangi kemampuan siswa dalam bernyanyi vocal group belum memperhatikan kriteria-kriteria yang sesungguhnya dalam vocal group. Pembelajaran menggunakan metode ceramah, metode demonstrasi dan metode latihan dengan teknik pengumpulan data yaitu observasi, wawancara, tes dan dokumentasi. Pelaksanaan pembelajaran dilakukan dengan memakai siklus yaitu pra siklus, siklus I dan siklus II. Dalam pra siklus penulis melakukan tes sebelum memberi tindakan. Dalam siklus I dan siklus II penulis mempersiapkan perencanaan, pelaksanaan, observasi dan refleksi. Pembelajaran pada siklus I dilaksanakan selama 11 kali pertemuan dan pembelajaran pada siklus II dilaksanakan selama 6 kali pertemuan. Nilai rata-rata anggota vocal group mengalami peningkatan  dari pra siklus ke siklus I sebesar 50%. Kemudian dari siklus I ke siklus II nilai rata-rata kembali meningkat sebesar 76,6%. Dengan demikian hasil menunjukkan bahwa pembelajaran vocal group pada siswa SMAN 2 Padangpanjang telah mencapai ktriteria yang baik

Identification and political advertising: Exploring the role of ethnic identification in political advertising campaigns

Issues of race and ethnic diversity have emerged as important consideration in campaigning and developing political advertising. This study examines the moderating effect of the strength of ethnic identity for Hispanic and non-Hispanic White voters. The results of the between-subject factorial design indicate that non-Hispanic White individuals with strong ethnic identities hold more favorable attitudes toward a political candidate that advocates against same-sex marriage than non-Hispanic Whites with weak ethnic identities. Non-Hispanic White individuals with strong ethnic identities also expressed greater intentions to vote for and perceptions of similarity to the anti-same-sex marriage candidate. Conversely, Hispanic individuals with strong ethnic identities hold more favorable attitudes toward a political candidate that supports same-sex marriage than Hispanic individuals with weak ethnic identities. Findings show that the degree to which racial/ethnic members affirm their racial/ethnic affiliations influence their voting proclivities when facing a religiously controversial and morally framed social issue such as same-sex marriage

Mercury accumulation in bats near hydroelectric reservoirs in Peninsular Malaysia

In large man-made reservoirs such as those resulting from hydroelectric dam construction, bacteria transform the relatively harmless inorganic mercury naturally present in soil and the submerged plant matter into toxic methylmercury. Methylmercury then enters food webs and can accumulate in organisms at higher trophic levels. Bats feeding on insects emerging from aquatic systems can show accumulation of mercury consumed through their insect prey. In this study, we investigated whether the concentration of mercury in the fur of insectivorous bat species was significantly higher than that in the fur of frugivorous bat species, sampled near hydroelectric reservoirs in Peninsular Malaysia. Bats were sampled at Temenggor Lake and Kenyir Lake and fur samples from the most abundant genera of the two feeding guilds—insectivorous (Hipposideros and Rhinolophus) and frugivorous (Cynopterus and Megaerops) were collected for mercury analysis. We found significantly higher concentrations of total mercury in the fur of insectivorous bats. Mercury concentrations also differed significantly between insectivorous bats sampled at the two sites, with bats from Kenyir Lake, the younger reservoir, showing higher mercury concentrations, and between the insectivorous genera, with Hipposideros bats showing higher mercury concentrations. Ten bats (H. cf. larvatus) sampled at Kenyir Lake had mercury concentrations approaching or exceeding 10 mg/kg, which is the threshold at which detrimental effects occur in humans, bats and mice

Development of employability skills assessment tool for manufacturing industry

Mastering employability skills is one of the global problems which employers are facing with graduates or their future employees. Various research on employability skills have been conducted nationally and internationally and it was found that many technical graduates nowadays are lack of employability skills rather than technical skills. The main goal of this research is to develop an employability skill assessment tool using the Kepner-Tregoe (K-T) method in which weight factor is set. Samples for this research consisted of 107 employers from five types of Malaysian manufacturing industry. The results showed that employers in all five categories of manufacturing industry are in consensus on the importance for all seven of the employability skills. These skills were ranked as follows; interpersonal skills, thinking skills, personal qualities/values, resource skills, system and technology skills, basic skills and informational skills. Assessment of vertical transportation system in oldest shopping mall / Muhammad Rasul Ahmad Nasir

Vertical transportation system in oldest shopping mall is very important to make sure the system such as elevator are functional and can transport occupants efficiently. Besides, assessment work or activities cannot separate with"the involvement of cost which sometimes high depends to type of damages occur. Maintenance work of vertical transportation system is more focus to inspection, repairing, security, and others aspect such as the satisfaction of elevator user. Meanwhile, there are four objectives to achieve above aims are to understand the management of the vertical transportation system in oldest shopping mall, to know the level of satisfaction of the users regarding the maintenance for vertical transportation system in oldest shopping mall, to identify the problem and effectiveness of vertical transportation system maintenance in oldest shopping mall and to analyze and recommend a comprehensive maintenance approach for vertical transportation system. Scope of study is focus on assessment of vertical transportation system in oldest shopping mall. Interviews session and observation was conducted by the author to achieve aim and objectives. Interviews session was also involved the parties from elevator contractor. Based on data analysis, vertical transportation system in oldest shopping mall mostly using out-source practice of elevator contractor. Usually, out-source contractor will quote for the highest maintenance cost, not produce the best quality of maintenance work, and take time for process find out-source contractor. Overall, the most of user are unsatisfied of vertical transportation system in oldest shopping mall. This is may be done to required performance of the elevator is up to expectation standard
