This article discusses the rich relation between Judaism and Christianity, one of the issues addressed by Stein in her intellectual explorations, as well as a matter pivotal in her life. By referring to Stein’s texts, her letters and other documents, as well as a claim made by commentators of her work and life, the author tries to expose numerous falsities and myths that arouse about Stein’s life. Beginning with an overview of Judaic tradition in which Stein grew up, the author then depicts the socio-political situation of Breslau as well as Stein’s family history. Next, C. Rastoin emphasises the moment when Stein recognised the power of Cross and joined the Catholic Church, yet at the same time did not cease to love the Jewish nation or feel a member of it. The last part of the text outlines Israel’s theology as well as a request for Judeo-Christian reconciliation and reciprocal respect

Le système alimentaire mondial est-il soluble dans le développement durable ?

In a process of world economic domination by an agro-industrial and agro-tertiary food system, the author wonders about the feasibility of an alternative model. The intensive agro-industrial model (financiarized, concentrated, specialized and globalized), allows remarkable results in terms of products prices and safety, but generates negative externalities. In the long term, this model could threat the food equilibrium of the populations and ecological balance of our planet. The concept of sustainable development provides some orientations on which the researchers are invited to work: definition of new food basis, design of shorter and more diversified productive and marketing systems, discussion of governance models, on a regional, national and international scale. These prospects imply the definition of voluntarist public policies. ...French Abstract : Dans un monde en voie de domination par un système alimentaire agro-industriel et agro-tertiaire, l'auteur s'interroge sur la faisabilité d'un modèle alternatif. En effet, le modèle agro-industriel intensif, spécialisé, concentré, financiarisé et mondialisé, s'il a permis de remarquables avancées en termes de prix et de sûreté des produits, génère des externalités négatives qui, à terme, menace l'équilibre alimentaire des populations et de la planète. Le concept de développement durable fournit quelques orientations sur lesquelles les chercheurs sont invités à travailler : définition de nouvelles bases alimentaires, conception de système productifs et de commercialisation plus courts et plus diversifiés, discussion des modes de gouvernance à l'échelle régionale, nationale et internationale. Spatial and Temporal Variation of Reef Fish Assemblages in the Galapagos Archipelago: The Influence of Biogeography, Management and ENSO

I investigated the spatial and temporal distribution of Galapagos fish assemblages using diversity, abundance, and length data from baited remote underwater stereo-video systems. I generated information describing the ecology and status of finfish populations in relation to key natural and anthropogenic pressures. This information has local and global implications, including highlighting the unique values of the Galapagos archipelago for biogeography research. I suggest possible management actions to improve the status of local fish populations

Concepts et méthodes de l'analyse de filières agroalimentaires : application par la chaîne globale de valeur au cas des blés en Algérie

After a survey of the main agribusiness global value chain analysis methods, the authors propose a larger pattern from the global value chain concept developed by Gereffi. They focus on the necessity of a quantified economic characterization and a diachronic study of the global value chain. This theoretical and methodological framework is then applied to the case of Algerian wheat global value chain from the 1960's to the early 2000's. This analysis highlights the disintegration of this global value chain as the State, who used to be a monopolist for 3 decades, slowly declines in production and distribution sector. Albeit a consumer gain regarding product diversity, the economic performance of this sector seems unsure because of information and management deficit and the global value chain seems highly vulnerable due to a strong external dependency. ...French Abstract : Après une recension des principales méthodes utilisées pour l'analyse de filières agroalimentaires, les auteurs proposent un cadre élargi déduit du concept de chaîne globale de valeur proposé par Gereffi, en insistant sur la nécessité de procéder à une caractérisation économique quantifiée et à une étude diachronique de la filière. Ce cadre théorique et méthodologique est ensuite appliqué au cas de la filière des blés en Algérie sur la période qui va du début des années 1960 au début des années 2000. L'analyse permet de montrer la désintégration de cette filière dès lors que l'Etat, omniprésent pendant plus de 3 décennies (configuration de monopole public), s'efface lentement du secteur productif et distributif. The purpose of this work is to draw a panorama of the evolution of the restructuring strategies of the transnational firms in the world wine industry across the period 1980-2005. The main forms of development of these firms - mergers, acquisitions, and joint ventures - are identified based on an ad-hoc database (W2D-World Wine Data). The strategies of the firms are explained based on three key elements: production facilities (vineyard and winery), corporate brands portfolio, and distribution networks. Vulnerabilty of euro-mediterranean regions producing fresh and processed fruits & vegetables, in a context of international liberalization = Vulnérabilité des régions euroméditerranéennes productrices de fruits & légumes frais et transformés, dans un contexte de libéralisation internationale

This paper dealts with the economic impact of agricultural trade liberalization on the fruit and vegetable marketing chains of five EU mediterranean countries. The theoretical tools of this research are based on industrial organization (Scherer, 1973), strategic analysis (Wernerfelt, 1983) and global commodity chain concept (Gereffi, 1995). A "regional vulnerability index" (RVI) is built through an inter-regional benchmarking. The RVI itself is calculated from a range of indicators taking into account the following aspects: concentration and production specialization, differents forms of organization and public incentives, average period dynamics, economic and firm performances, sector-based and macroeconomic environmental constraints. An impact simulation, combining RVI and penetration of european markets, suggests a reasonable competition with regard to the commercial risk: 4% of the present production acounting to 2 billion (i.e. 30 000 specialized farms and 80 000 corresponding jobs located within fifty regions) are threatened. ...French Abstract : Ce document propose une estimation de l'impact économique de la libéralisation des échanges commerciaux euro-méditerranéens sur les filières fruits et légumes dans 5 pays méditerranéens de l'Union européenne. Les fondements théoriques de la recherche sont empruntés à l'organisation industrielle (Scherer, 1973), à l'analyse stratégique (notamment Wernerfelt, 1983) et au concept de chaîne globale de valeur (Gereffi, 1995). Un " indice de vulnérabilité régionale " (IVR) est mobilisé pour un benchmarking inter-régional.
