Metodologia científica: cultivo in vitro de unha-de-gato.
Ultralight boson cloud depletion in binary systems
Ultralight scalars can extract rotational energy from astrophysical black
holes through superradiant instabilities, forming macroscopic boson clouds.
This process is most efficient when the Compton wavelength of the boson is
comparable to the size of the black hole horizon, i.e. when the "gravitational
fine structure constant" . If the black
hole/cloud system is in a binary, tidal perturbations from the companion can
produce resonant transitions between the energy levels of the cloud, depleting
it by an amount that depends on the nature of the transition and on the
parameters of the binary. Previous cloud depletion estimates considered
binaries in circular orbit and made the approximation . Here we
use black hole perturbation theory to compute instability rates and decay
widths for generic values of , and we show that this leads to much
larger cloud depletion estimates when . We also study
eccentric binary orbits. We show that in this case resonances can occur at all
harmonics of the orbital frequency, significantly extending the range of
frequencies where cloud depletion may be observable with gravitational wave
interferometers.Comment: 12 pages, 6 figures. v2: references added, matches published versio
Draw, project: helping to grow talent in a university context
The main objective of this article is to establish the parallelism between the learning processes of artistic creation related to the act of projecting architecture and the discovery of talent to develop it. The dynamics of spatial configuration as a series of open processes based on graphical actions are devised. Imagination is established as the origin and act of
volition of projection, meanwhile the images are defined as schemas of contents' configuration of imagination. It is discussed to convert that first mental image, as imaginary trigger, in an architecturally productive image. The experience developed in the subjects of Drawing, Analysis and Ideation 1 and 2 the teaching at the beginning of the projection, highlighting the work of graphics in the processes of architectural creation. Dynamics of teamwork between teachers
and students which allow for talent discovery in all the phases of learning.
Orthodontic camouflage versus orthodontic-orthognathic surgical treatment in class II malocclusion: a systematic review and meta-analysis
This systematic review was performed to compare dental, skeletal, and aesthetic outcomes between orthodontic camouflage and surgical-orthodontic treatment, in patients with a skeletal class II malocclusion and a retrognathic mandible who have already finished their growth period. A literature search was conducted, and a modified Downs and Black checklist was used to assess methodological quality. The meta-analysis was conducted using the DerSimonian–Laird random-effects method to obtain summary estimates of the standardized mean differences and corresponding 95% confidence intervals. Nine articles were included in the qualitative synthesis and seven in the meta-analysis. The difference between treatments was not statistically significant regarding SNA angle, linear measurement of the lower lip to Ricketts’ aesthetic line, convexity of the skeletal profile, or the soft tissue profile excluding the nose. In contrast, surgical-orthodontic treatment was more effective with regard to ANB, SNB, and ML/NSL angles and the soft tissue profile including the nose. Different treatment effects on overjet and overbite were found according to the severity of the initial values. These results should be interpreted with caution, due to the limited number of studies included and because they were non-randomized clinical trials. Further studies with larger sample sizes and similar pre-treatment conditions are needed
The performance of an aerated stirred tank reactor on VHG batch fermentations
The quest for new and renewable energy sources has greatly increased due to
the depletion of fossil fuels reserves. Agro-food wastes appear as a cheap and
renewable energy source that can contain great amounts of carbon to be
transformed in bioethanol that can be used as additive to gasoline

Human lectins, their carbohydrate affinities and where to find them
POCI-01-0145-FEDER-007265Lectins are a class of proteins responsible for several biological roles such as cell-cell interactions, signaling pathways, and several innate immune responses against pathogens. Since lectins are able to bind to carbohydrates, they can be a viable target for targeted drug delivery systems. In fact, several lectins were approved by Food and Drug Administration for that purpose. Information about specific carbohydrate recognition by lectin receptors was gathered herein, plus the specific organs where those lectins can be found within the human body.publishersversionpublishe
