The abundance of carbon dioxide as greenhouse gas makes it potentially useful for chemical syntheses in order to recycling it into useful chemicals will become a more attractive alternative for industry. This study focuses on synthesize and characterize TNTs and CQDs via hydrothermal method. One of the common methods to achieve activation is via sample acts as photocatalyst to improve the conversion of carbon dioxide to methane through photocatalysis. TNTs is synthesis using a hydrothermal method meanwhile, for CQDs extracted from Watermelon Rinds is synthesis by facile hydrothermal m. Titanium dioxide nanoparticles are photocatalysts, which have the capability to use energy in light to catalyse reactions with other molecules at reduced temperatures. cylinders. As TNTs and CQDs were successfully synthesized and characterized by Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM). The image results indicate that TNTs structure has an average diameter of 10.55 nm and form into thick particles of nanotube. Meanwhile image of CQDs shows the morphology of CQDs is approximately spherical and the average particle size is 48.68 nm

Management strategies for gastrointestinal, erectile, bladder, and sudomotor dysfunction in patients with diabetes

There are substantial advances in understanding disordered gastrointestinal autonomic dysfunction in diabetes. It occurs frequently. The underlying pathogenesis is complex involving defects in multiple interacting cell types of the myenteric plexus as well. These defects may be irreversible or reversible. Gastrointestinal symptoms represent a major and generally underestimated source of morbidity for escalating health care costs in diabetes. Acute changes in glycaemia are both determinants and consequences of altered gastrointestinal motility. 35โ€“90% of diabetic men have moderateโ€toโ€severe erectile dysfunction (ED). ED shares common risk factors with CVD. Diagnosis is based on medical/sexual history, including validated questionnaires. Physical examination and laboratory testing must be tailored to patient's complaints and risk factors. Treatment is based on PDE5โ€inhibitors (PDE5โ€I). Other explorations may be useful in patients who do not respond to PDE5โ€I. Patients at high cardiovascular risk should be stabilized by their cardiologists before sexual activity is considered or ED treatment is recommended. Estimates on bladder dysfunction prevalence are 43โ€“87% of type 1 and 25% of type 2 diabetic patients, respectively. Common symptoms include dysuria, frequency, urgency, nocturia and incomplete bladder emptying. Diagnosis should use validated questionnaire for lower urinary tract symptoms. The type of bladder dysfunction is readily characterized with complete urodynamic testing. Sudomotor dysfunction is a cause of dry skin and is associated with foot ulcerations. Sudomotor function can be assessed by thermoregulatory sweat testing, quantitative sudomotor axon reflex test, sympathetic skin response, quantitative direct/indirect axon reflex testing and the indicator plaster. Novel formulation of bio-adhesive using natural rubber latex and starch for wood composite industry

    Get PDF
Adhesives play a very crucial role in determining the end product quality in wood composite industry. Strong adhesive joints resemble greater mechanical properties of the wood panels, and therefore, selection of adhesives in the manufacturing of particleboard, MDF and plywood really accounts for the rise or fall of the industry. Conventionally, formaldehyde based resins are widely used as adhesives in the manufacturing of wood panel, by which urea formaldehyde (UF), tops the preference among the wood composite manufacturers. UF based adhesive applications on the wood composites tend to endanger human lives through subsequent formaldehyde emission into the air. Due to that limitation, bio-adhesive which is renewable, cheaper, possess greater mechanical properties in terms of stronger adhesion properties as well as with zero formaldehyde emission is vital to be discovered in the upcoming years so that consumersโ€™ health will not be sacrificed at any extent. Hence, this project portrays the potential of bio-adhesive development from natural Rubber latex and rice starch. By the application of new adhesive, the mechanical properties were comparable to the market standard. It will also not emit any toxic emissions, thus no health problems

Development of hair treatment cream by using keratin protein

    Get PDF
This work presents the development of hair treatment cream by using keratin protein. Keratin derived from chicken feather is used as an active ingredient in the hair treatment cream. The extracted keratin protein will act as replacement for the damaged or missing keratin inside the hair since it has a huge advantage in repairing damaged hair. It can also add smoothness to the hair and reducing the brittle cuticle cells. The objectives of this experiment are to formulate a hair treatment cream by using keratin protein and to analyze and characterize the properties of the hair treatment cream and the treated hair. Hair damage can happen when the protective cuticle cell of the hair is weakened and vulnerable therefore a hair treatment cream is needed to overcome this problem. Furthermore, the cuticle cells would not be able to protect its inner layer from the brittleness of hair and this will lead to a dry hair and splits end occurrence. Therefore, the treatment cream developed will improve the surface layer of the damaged hair. The formulation is made by mixing both oil and water phase at desire temperature and finally mix the solution until it homogenize. Both oil and water phase are prepared separately at the desired temperature and then after both solution are stable, they are mixed together to form the complete hair treatment cream. There were six analysis perform to test the cream stability and it capability to repair the damaged hair. All the results show a positive result in the stability of the cream and improving the damaged hair especially in repairing the hair surface. As the conclusion, the development of hair treatment cream by using keratin protein as an active ingredient managed to develop a good cream to treat the damaged hair by repairing the protein linkage especially on the hair surfaces

What do X-ray images of the bladder during video urodynamics show us in patients with spinal cord injury?

STUDY DESIGN: Retrospective anonymized cohort study. OBJECTIVES: To study X-ray images of video urodynamics (VUD) in patients with spinal cord injury (SCI). SETTING: Single-center study. METHODS: X-ray images during VUD were categorized. Relation with the American Spinal Injury Association Impairment Scale (AIS), time since and level of SCI, cystometric data, method of bladder management, findings of flexible cystoscopy, and renal ultrasound were evaluated. Changes over time were studied. RESULTS: In 231 consecutive patients, VUD was done at a mean of 8.5 years after SCI. X3-ray bladder appearance was categorized as normal/standard, tonic, or flaccid. In 19 patients, specific findings were seen: diverticula, cystocele, vesicoureteral reflux. X-ray images differed by maximum cystometric capacity, presence of neurogenic detrusor overactivity, and maximum detrusor pressure during detrusor overactivity, but not by bladder compliance. There was no difference in the categories found in different levels and completeness of SCI. In the 23 patients able to void no pathology was seen on urethral images. Renal ultrasound was normal in >99%. In 86 patients, repeated testing after 72โ€‰ยฑโ€‰143 weeks showed changed findings in 30%. Cystoscopy showed significantly more local pathologies. CONCLUSION: Complications in the lower urinary tract were seen on imaging only in a limited number of our cohort. As our findings represent a real-life example of the actual yield of VUD in patients with neurogenic bladder due to SCI treated following the international guidelines, further multicentre evaluation is needed to determine when imaging should be used or not
