Wave-by-wave forecasts in directional seas using nonlinear dispersion corrections

We develop a new methodology for the deterministic forecasting of directional ocean surface waves, based on nonlinear frequency corrections. These frequency corrections can be pre-computed based on measured energy density spectra, and therefore come at no additional computational cost compared to linear theory. The nonlinear forecasting methodology is tested on highly-nonlinear, synthetically generated seas with a variety of values of average steepness and directional spreading, and shown to consistently outperform a linear forecast.Comment: 31 pages, 8 figures, 5 table

Estados Unidos e NAFTA: grupos domésticos na renegociação do acordo

The article analyzes the main arguments that permeated the renegotiation of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), from the point of view of the United States, coming from both the Executive, Legislative and North American internal coalitions. The objective was to demonstrate the hypothesis that the radicalization of the presidential speech was a strategy to guarantee both better conditions of negotiation, as well as the approval of the agreement. To this end, a mapping of statements by domestic groups, such as companies, associations and state governments, and official studies by the congressional research service on foreign policy issues and their hearings was made. This made it possible to identify the sectors of support and opposition to the negotiations, and how the president's radicalized behavior stimulated the constitution of a base to support the permanence of the U.S. in NAFTA after the modernization of the treaty, ensuring its approval in Congress.O artigo analisa os principais argumentos que permearam a renegociação do North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA, na sigla em inglês), do ponto de vista dos Estados Unidos, advindos tanto do Executivo quanto do Legislativo e de coalizões internas norte-americanas. O objetivo foi demonstrar a hipótese de que a radicalização do discurso presidencial foi uma estratégia para garantir tanto melhores condições de negociação, como a própria aprovação do acordo.  Para tanto, foi feito um mapeamento das declarações de grupos domésticos, como de empresas, associações e governos estaduais, e de estudos oficiais do serviço de pesquisa congressual sobre temas de política externa e de suas audiências. Isso possibilitou identificar os setores de apoio e oposição às negociações, e como o comportamento radicalizado do presidente estimulou a constituição de uma base de apoio à permanência dos EUA no NAFTA a partir da modernização do tratado, garantindo sua aprovação no Congresso

Developing software IVO for clinical, laboratory, therapeutic and cost data collection for Sickle Cell Anemia

The challenge to improve the treatment of Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) is to plan for managers and health professionals, as well as to estimate the necessary costs. To this end, research should be developed to support the health area, with emphasis on the development of software that complements data collection. For these reasons, the objective of this study is to describe the development of software for the collection of cost information and clinical, laboratory and therapeutic data of patients with SCD, which can be used in the future by other areas of health. This is an experimental and applied research focused on technological production. The applied process model was incremental and followed the steps of communication, planning, modeling and development.  The first version is in the testing phase and presents the record format, does not require internet connection, can interact with Windows®, Linux® or MacOS® operating systems and encrypt data for storage. In the next increments, the customization of the fields with a broad structure for data collection; data export in spreadsheet format for use in external tools; creation of customized reports and central database stands out
