Sub-arcsecond Morphology of Planetary Nebulae
Planetary nebulae (PNe) can be roughly categorized into several broad
morphological classes. The high quality images of PNe acquired in recent years,
however, have revealed a wealth of fine structures that preclude simplistic
models for their formation. Here we present narrow-band, sub-arcsecond images
of a sample of relatively large PNe that illustrate the complexity and variety
of small-scale structures. This is especially true for bipolar PNe, for which
the images reveal multi-polar ejections and, in some cases, suggest turbulent
gas motions. Our images also reveal the presence or signs of jet-like outflows
in several objects in which this kind of component has not been previously
reported.Comment: 7 pages, 7 figures, Accepted for publication in PAS
Effect of shrinkage measurement method of conventional and bulk fill resin composites on residual stress in endodontic treated molars
Volumetric shrinkage is an inherent characteristic of resin-based materials, but not all polymerization shrinkage causes shrinkage stresses. So, it is important to distinguish between total shrinkage and the shrinkage that really causes stresses. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to analyze the mechanical properties and the way to calculate the total and post-gel polymerization shrinkage and how it may influence the generation of polymerization shrinkage stress. Methods: Four composite, 2 conventional (Filtek Supreme – FS and TPH3) and 2 bulk fill (FiltekBulkFill Posterior – FBP) were tested for the compression strength test (n = 10) where the samples were made with 6 mm high and 3 mm in diameter and diametraltensilen strength 4mm in diameter and 2mm thick. Assays were performed with a speed of 0.5 mm / min at a universal machine test. The post-gel shrinkage (Shr) was evaluated by the extensometer technique (n = 10) and the total shrinkage (TShr) was measured by optical method (n = 10). The residual shrinkage stress was evaluated by finite element analysis with 4 restorative techniques.Data were analyzed by ANOVA and Tukey's test (α = 0.05).Results:FS (255a) had higher CS than TPH3 (164b), FBP (169b) and SDR (121c). TPH3 (49a) and FS (47ab) had higher DTS than FBP (42bc) and SDR (39c). The highest post-gel and total shrinkage was showed by SDR, 0.45% and 3.93%, respectively. Bulk-filling method accumulated lower residual shrinkage stress than incremental and total shrinkage resulted in higher values than post-gel shrinkage. Conclusion: Shrinkage stress was strongly dependent on the measuring method, type of resin and mechanical properties.
A comparison of two methods for the definition of Regional Metropolitan Areas through an application in the North of Portugal
The objective of this paper is to present a comparison of two methods for the definition of regional metropolitan areas, in a perspective of identification of urban territories with similar characteristics. In this study it is assumed that population density is, in the absence of another measure that describe daily or weekly individual movements, a variable that can be used to evaluate, although indirectly, the activity level and dynamics of the territory. The first method explored here uses ESDA (Exploratory Spatial Data Analyses) techniques for the definition of regional metropolitan areas. The second method is based on an index value that results from a rank of the variable under analysis in a spatial context, both at the local and national (or regional) levels. The methods are implemented in a case study in the north of Portugal, where this is a very opportune issue.
Kn 26, a New Quadrupolar Planetary Nebula
Once classified as an emission line source, the planetary nebula (PN) nature
of the source Kn 26 has been only recently recognized in digital sky surveys.
To investigate the spectral properties and spatio-kinematical structure of Kn
26, we have obtained high spatial-resolution optical and near-IR narrow-band
images, high-dispersion long-slit echelle spectra, and intermediate-resolution
spectroscopic observations. The new data reveal an hourglass morphology typical
of bipolar PNe. A detailed analysis of its morphology and kinematics discloses
the presence of a second pair of bipolar lobes, making Kn 26 a new member of
the subclass of quadrupolar PNe. The time-lap between the ejection of the two
pairs of bipolar lobes is much smaller than their dynamical ages, implying a
rapid change of the preferential direction of the central engine. The chemical
composition of Kn 26 is particularly unusual among PNe, with a low N/O ratio
(as of type II PNe) and a high helium abundance (as of type I PNe), although
not atypical among symbiotic stars. Such an anomalous chemical composition may
have resulted from the curtail of the time in the Asymptotic Giant Branch by
the evolution of the progenitor star through a common envelope phase.Comment: 9 pages, 5 figures, accepted for publication in A&
Digital contact tracing and data protection: assessing the French and Portuguese applications
The rapid outbreak of COVID-19 has necessitated a global response to manage the transmission, spread, and impact of the virus. Many countries started developing digital contact tracing applications to contribute to the process of lifting the restrictions imposed on its citizens. Generally, the protection of personal data is a right that appears in constitutional and legal provisions, and its processing can only be performed under very restricted circumstances, the protection of health being a valid justification. This article focusses on the systems developed as digital contact tracing tools in France (StopCovid) and in Portugal (STAYAWAY COVID), presenting their characteristics and the most relevant aspects concerning the processing of personal data. The most relevant positive characteristics of these systems are their voluntary adoption, their developers’ concern with the people’s security and privacy, and the transparency of their functioning. With the negative characteristics, the most relevant are the restricted interoperability with the systems from other EU countries, and the permanent risk to people’s privacy of collecting lists of contacts and the circumstances of their interactions with other users of the systems

a diferentes resultados.
NUTS III do Minho-Lima, do Cávado e do Ave, é pertinente.
(Comunidade Urbana) e Vale do Minho (Comunidade Intermunicipal)
