Fitoterapia como coadyuvante en el tratamiento de la obesidad

La obesidad es uno de los problemas de salud más importantes a nivel mundial debido a su relación con numerosas patologías como la diabetes mellitus tipo 2, la hipertensión y el aumento importante en el riesgo cardiovascular. La base del tratamiento es la dieta y el ejercicio físico, pero en muchos casos no es sufi ciente y es necesario combinarlo con tratamiento farmacológico. Recientemente se ha retirado sibutramina del mercado por lo que sólo se dispone de orlistat, que no está exento de contraindicaciones y efectos secundarios. Ante esta situación, se ha vuelto a retomar el tratamiento fi toterápico, aunque, en muchas ocasiones, con numerosas dudas. Esta revisión pretende aportar la información necesaria sobre las principales plantas utilizadas en este tratamiento

Big data and machine learning to improve european grapevine moth (Lobesia botrana) predictions

Machine Learning (ML) techniques can be used to convert Big Data into valuable information for agri-environmental applications, such as predictive pest modeling. Lobesia botrana (Denis & Schiffermüller) 1775 (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae) is one of the main pests of grapevine, causing high productivity losses in some vineyards worldwide. This work focuses on the optimization of the Touzeau model, a classical correlation model between temperature and L. botrana development using data-driven models. Data collected from field observations were combined with 30 GB of registered weather data updated every 30 min to train the ML models and make predictions on this pest’s flights, as well as to assess the accuracy of both Touzeau and ML models. The results obtained highlight a much higher F1 score of the ML models in comparison with the Touzeau model. The best-performing model was an artificial neural network of four layers, which considered several variables together and not only the temperature, taking advantage of the ability of ML models to find relationships in nonlinear systems. Despite the room for improvement of artificial intelligence-based models, the process and results presented herein highlight the benefits of ML applied to agricultural pest management strategies

El principal objetivo que nos planteamos fue proporcionar a los alumnos, tanto de Grado cómo de Posgrado, un entorno de aprendizaje virtual adaptativo donde poner en práctica los conocimientos de toxicología adquiridos en las clases teóricas, complementando e incrementando así el conocimiento aplicado. Y que los alumnos adquieran experiencia práctica en el manejo de datos toxicológicos y herramientas virtuales que cada día están más presentes en la vida profesional, llevando a cabo procedimientos experimentales predictivos y evaluaciones toxicológicas in silico con herramientas reales. Para ello se planteó diseñar y elaborar una página web donde se engloben todos aquellos enlaces de herramientas validadas para realizar análisis toxicológicos on-line, y de esta manera, responder a la necesidad de crear un entorno de fácil acceso que incluya las numerosas herramientas a las que se puede acceder, con el valor añadido de los tutoriales o textos explicativos para su comprensión y utilización. Con todo ello, el principal objetivo es lograr que los alumnos aprendan, no solo a cómo usar e interpretar los datos, sino también a la aplicación potencial de dichos datos obtenidos a través de los sistemas in silico

A Method to Compare the Delivery of Psychiatric Care for People with Treatment-Resistant Schizophrenia

Abstract Introduction: Community services are gaining ground when it comes to attention to patients with psychiatric diseases. Regarding patients with treatment-resistant schizophrenia (TRS), the use of information and communication technology (ICT) could help to shift the focus from hospital-centered attention to community services. This study compares the differences in mental health services provided for patients with TRS in Budapest (Hungary), Tel-Aviv (Israel) and Catalonia (Spain) by means of a method for the quick appraisal of gaps among the three places, for a potential implementation of the same ICT tool in these regions. Methods: An adapted version of the Description and Standardised Evaluation of Services and Directories in Europe for Long Term Care (DESDE-LTC) instrument was made by researchers in Semmelweis University (Budapest, Hungary), Gertner Institute (Tel-Aviv, Israel) and Hospital de la Santa Creu I Sant Pau and Parc Sanitari Sant Joan de Déu (Catalonia, Spain). Results: Two types of outpatient care services were available in the three regions. Only one type of day-care facility was common in the whole study area. Two residential care services, one for acute and the other for non-acute patients were available in every region. Finally, two self-care and volunteer-care facilities were available in the three places.
