Tapered Roller Bearing Accelerated Life Test Rig Design and Fabrication

L10 bearing fatigue life testing is a costly and prolonged process, as the bearing is characteristically designed for durability and reliability. Within the current testing methods, faulty materials still have the potential of passing the test. However, with this life test rig, the bearing will be tested to failure, thus providing an indicator for its predicted life span. The purpose of this project is to optimize and construct a L10 life test rig for accelerated fatigue testing of the Association of American Railroad Class K, 6 ½ x 9-inch double-row tapered roller bearing to their maximum fatigue life as quickly as possible with the use of an axial load. This Senior Design team has developed and improved upon a proposed design for an accelerated life test rig capable of testing tapered roller bearings to failure. The past design allowed for 4 bearings, but due to time restrictions, financial limitations, and other factors its construction was not feasible. Therefore, the team has designed and revised a test rig for 1 bearing. The current, radially loaded testing method takes 1.57 years to test a bearing to failure, whereas with the axially loaded method will take about 73 days. Additionally, the team will construct the single bearing test rig to verify that axial loading is an effective means of reducing the applied load in addition to reducing the normal test run time while still achieving the same single roller fatigue results across all of the rollers. The development of this test rig will allow Brenco to perform more testing of roller materials in a shorter amount of time, which will result in a higher capacity of research to determine higher quality materials.https://scholarscompass.vcu.edu/capstone/1129/thumbnail.jp

Understanding the Success of Government Portals: The Role of Political Leadership, Standards, and a Powerful Centralized IT Agency

Information technologies have become an essential component of government administrative reforms and governance strategies around the world. Although Internet portals are now some of the most mature technologies, they continue to be the most important channel for governments to provide information and services to citizens and other stakeholders. However, studies about government portals still lack the level of detail necessary to better understand the specific variables that affect their success and, more prominently, how these variables intertwine. Based on institutional theory, particularly the technology enactment framework, and one in-depth case study in Mexico, this paper shows how leadership from the governor, the establishment of government-wide rules and standards, and the existence of a powerful centralized IT agency collectively affect the process of enacting a state government website and its potential results. The paper also identifies other variables and discusses some of their interactions and mechanisms of influence

Clonagem terapêutica e o direito

Resumo: O presente trabalho acadêmico versa sobre a análise da clonagem terapêutica sob o ponto de vista jurídico. Buscou-se verificar a viabilidade jurídica da utilização dessa técnica, no Brasil, para o tratamento de doenças. Partindo-se de conceitos a respeito das características dos direitos da personalidade, objetivou-se averiguar a compatibilidade da utilização desse tipo de técnica com o ordenamento jurídico brasileiro. A seguir, foram analisados os conceitos técnico-biológicos referente à clonagem, seus tipos, e suas técnicas. Em seguida, fez-se uma reflexão sobre o direito à vida e o momento do seu início, a fim de verificar se a clonagem revela-se como prática atentatória a esse direito. Finalmente, debruçou-se sobre o direito positivo vigente, visando verificar como é disciplinado o tema nas legislações pátria e estrangeira, a fim de realizar uma análise comparativa das disciplinas jurídicas diversas existentes, bem como conjecturar a possibilidade de essa técnica vir a ser posta em prática no paí
