The proposed antenna is designed to notch a particular band of frequencies in UWB range. The designed model is notching the first band from 2 to 5 GHz & the second band from 7 to 11 GHz. The proposed antenna has been fabricated on FR4 substrate with di electric constant 4.4 & tested for its reliability on ZNB20 vector network analyzer. The operating bands will come under WLAN, KU band, satellite communication applications. A peak realized gain of 4.3 dB with radiation efficiency 90% is attained at the operating bands of the designed antenna. At notch band significant gain reduction is observed from the current design. The antenna is showing omnidirectional radiation pattern in the pass band & disturbed radiation pattern in the notch band. Antenna is fabricated with dimensions of 40x68x1.6 mm & simulation works are carried with finite element method based HFSS tool

    Get PDF
This paper presents the experimental studies of different passive cooling techniques to analyze the electrical power improvement and temperature reduction of a 50 W polycrystalline PV module. Plant cooling, greenhouse cooling, greenhouse + plant cooling, coir pith, and phase change material cooling are the various approaches are used in the analysis. The percentage of electrical power improvement and temperature of various passive cooling techniques are compared with solar modules without cooling. The maximum percentage power improvement (11.34%) was found to be in coir pith cooling with an average maximum power of 36.38 W. The maximum temperature reduction was observed to be 14 °C in case of plant cooling with a greenhouse. Considering the electrical power improvement and temperature reduction, coir cooling and plant cooling were found to be best suited for the given climatic conditions amongst all cooling techniques. The results also showed that the reduction in temperature does not always give rise to the increase in power as it was depicted in the case of greenhouse net cooling and plant cooling with greenhouse. This kind of cooling technique is best suited for agro-based countries in tropical regions

A survey of practices for the use of electronic health records to support research recruitment

Electronic health records (EHRs) provide great promise for identifying cohorts and enhancing research recruitment. Such approaches are sorely needed, but there are few descriptions in the literature of prevailing practices to guide their use. A multidisciplinary workgroup was formed to examine current practices in the use of EHRs in recruitment and to propose future directions. The group surveyed consortium members regarding current practices. Over 98% of the Clinical and Translational Science Award Consortium responded to the survey. Brokered and self-service data warehouse access are in early or full operation at 94% and 92% of institutions, respectively, whereas, EHR alerts to providers and to research teams are at 45% and 48%, respectively, and use of patient portals for research is at 20%. However, these percentages increase significantly to 88% and above if planning and exploratory work were considered cumulatively. For most approaches, implementation reflected perceived demand. Regulatory and workflow processes were similarly varied, and many respondents described substantive restrictions arising from logistical constraints and limitations on collaboration and data sharing. Survey results reflect wide variation in implementation and approach, and point to strong need for comparative research and development of best practices to protect patients and facilitate interinstitutional collaboration and multisite research

Enhancing neuroimaging genetics through meta-analysis for Tourette syndrome (ENIGMA-TS): A worldwide platform for collaboration

    Get PDF
Tourette syndrome (TS) is characterized by multiple motor and vocal tics, and high-comorbidity rates with other neuropsychiatric disorders. Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), autism spectrum disorders (ASDs), major depressive disorder (MDD), and anxiety disorders (AXDs) are among the most prevalent TS comorbidities. To date, studies on TS brain structure and function have been limited in size with efforts mostly fragmented. This leads to low-statistical power, discordant results due to differences in approaches, and hinders the ability to stratify patients according to clinical parameters and investigate comorbidity patterns. Here, we present the scientific premise, perspectives, and key goals that have motivated the establishment of the Enhancing Neuroimaging Genetics through Meta-Analysis for TS (ENIGMA-TS) working group. The ENIGMA-TS working group is an international collaborative effort bringing together a large network of investigators who aim to understand brain structure and function in TS and dissect the underlying neurobiology that leads to observed comorbidity patterns and clinical heterogeneity. Previously collected TS neuroimaging data will be analyzed jointly and integrated with TS genomic data, as well as equivalently large and already existing studies of highly comorbid OCD, ADHD, ASD, MDD, and AXD. Our work highlights the power of collaborative efforts and transdiagnostic approaches, and points to the existence of different TS subtypes. ENIGMA-TS will offer large-scale, high-powered studies that will lead to important insights toward understanding brain structure and function and genetic effects in TS and related disorders, and the identification of biomarkers that could help inform improved clinical practice

Energy is the current need of the hour. Energy shortage in every part of the world has lead to the need for exploration of renewable sources of energy. Solar energy is the most prominently used renewable form of energy. Solar photovoltaic system efficiency depends on the wavelength of the solar radiation it is exposed to. In the present study, extensive research has been carried using different colour filter papers to evaluate the electrical performance of the solar photovoltaic module. Five different filters were used from magenta to red so that the relationship of frequency or wavelength and photonic energy can be determined. The efficiency and power of the solar photovoltaic module were measured with and without filters, and their performance was compared. From the study, it has been concluded that among all the colour filters used, magenta colour in the visible spectrum of solar radiation gave the maximum efficiency. The results also show that blue and magenta have maximum scope for producing more change in temperature when compared to other filters. The standard deviation is more in the case of these two filters, and all the filters have better standard deviation when compared without a filter

Increased Incidence of Pseudotumor Cerebri Syndrome Among Users of Tetracycline Antibiotics

Background: To determine whether the use of a tetracycline-class antibiotic is associated with an increased risk of developing pseudotumor cerebri syndrome (PTCS). Methods: We identified patients in the University of Utah Health system who were prescribed a tetracycline-class antibiotic and determined what percentage of those individuals were subsequently diagnosed with PTCS secondary to tetracycline use. We compared this calculation to the number of patients with PTCS unrelated to tetracycline use. Results: Between 2007 and 2014, a total of 960 patients in the University system between the ages of 12 and 50 were prescribed a tetracycline antibiotic. Among those, 45 were diagnosed with tetracycline-induced PTCS. We estimate the incidence of tetracycline-induced PTCS to be 63.9 per 100,000 person-years. By comparison, the incidence of idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH) is estimated to be less than one per 100,000 person-years (Calculated Risk Ratio = 178). Conclusions: Although a causative link between tetracycline use and pseudotumor cerebri has yet to be firmly established, our study suggests that the incidence of pseudotumor cerebri among tetracycline users is significantly higher than the incidence of IIH in the general population

Simultaneous PET-MR-EEG: Technology, Challenges and Application in Clinical Neuroscience

    No full text
Due to technological developments in positron emission tomography (PET) detectors and PET-MR integration, the simultaneous measurement of PET-MR-EEG has become feasible, offering the possibility of exploring the complementary information provided by each modality. Studies have already shown the benefits of simultaneous measurement using PET-MR, however, such achievements come with different technical and practical challenges. In this context, we aim to give an overview of the technical challenges involved in integrating electroencephalography with hybrid PET-MR scanners and demonstrate possible solutions. When acquiring simultaneous data from multiple modalities, the data acquisition protocol should be optimized in order to utilize time and complementary information most effectively. Thus, practical considerations with regard to protocol optimization are also discussed, alongside relevant examples. In addition to simultaneous data acquisition, another major challenge is the integration of the multimodal data, which is also addressed. Finally, a clinical application with a strong focus on neuro-psychiatry is shown. This clinical application is discussed with relevant examples from an ongoing clinical study. Finally, the possibility of utilizing the PET-MR-EEG data in search for new biomarkers for individualized medicine in clinical neuroscience is briefly explored
