Gene duplication, modularity and adaptation in the evolution of the aflatoxin gene cluster

<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>The biosynthesis of aflatoxin (AF) involves over 20 enzymatic reactions in a complex polyketide pathway that converts acetate and malonate to the intermediates sterigmatocystin (ST) and <it>O</it>-methylsterigmatocystin (OMST), the respective penultimate and ultimate precursors of AF. Although these precursors are chemically and structurally very similar, their accumulation differs at the species level for Aspergilli. Notable examples are <it>A</it>. <it>nidulans </it>that synthesizes only ST, <it>A</it>. <it>flavus </it>that makes predominantly AF, and <it>A</it>. <it>parasiticus </it>that generally produces either AF or OMST. Whether these differences are important in the evolutionary/ecological processes of species adaptation and diversification is unknown. Equally unknown are the specific genomic mechanisms responsible for ordering and clustering of genes in the AF pathway of <it>Aspergillus</it>.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>To elucidate the mechanisms that have driven formation of these clusters, we performed systematic searches of aflatoxin cluster homologs across five <it>Aspergillus </it>genomes. We found a high level of gene duplication and identified seven modules consisting of highly correlated gene pairs (<it>aflA/aflB, aflR/aflS, aflX/aflY</it>, <it>aflF/aflE, aflT/aflQ</it>, <it>aflC/aflW</it>, and <it>aflG/aflL</it>). With the exception of <it>A. nomius</it>, contrasts of mean <it>Ka/Ks </it>values across all cluster genes showed significant differences in selective pressure between section <it>Flavi </it>and non-section <it>Flavi </it>species. <it>A. nomius </it>mean <it>Ka/Ks </it>values were more similar to partial clusters in <it>A. fumigatus </it>and <it>A. terreus</it>. Overall, mean <it>Ka/Ks </it>values were significantly higher for section <it>Flavi </it>than for non-section <it>Flavi </it>species.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>Our results implicate several genomic mechanisms in the evolution of ST, OMST and AF cluster genes. Gene modules may arise from duplications of a single gene, whereby the function of the pre-duplication gene is retained in the copy (<it>aflF</it>/<it>aflE</it>) or the copies may partition the ancestral function (<it>aflA/aflB</it>). In some gene modules, the duplicated copy may simply augment/supplement a specific pathway function (<it>aflR/aflS </it>and <it>aflX/aflY</it>) or the duplicated copy may evolve a completely new function (<it>aflT/aflQ </it>and <it>aflC/aflW</it>). Gene modules that are contiguous in one species and noncontiguous in others point to possible rearrangements of cluster genes in the evolution of these species. Significantly higher mean <it>Ka/Ks </it>values in section <it>Flavi </it>compared to non-section <it>Flavi </it>species indicate increased positive selection acting in the evolution of genes in OMST and AF gene clusters.</p

Estilos de vida y autocuidado en los estudiantes de la carrera de farmacia en el Instituto “Santiago Antúnez de Mayolo” Palián 2021

La investigación realizada tuvo como objetivo determinar la relación entre los estilos de vida y el autocuidado en los estudiantes de la carrera de Farmacia del instituto “Santiago Antúnez de Mayolo”- Palián en el 2021, se procedió mediante el método científico, el tipo de estudio fue relacional de corte transversal, se consideró una población de 110 estudiantes de la carrera de Farmacia del instituto superior tecnológico público “Santiago Antúnez de Mayolo”, Palián, de donde se extrajo una muestra de 70 estudiantes, se empleó el Cuestionario de estilos de vida en adultos jóvenes y el Cuestionario de autocuidado en adultos jóvenes; como resultados más destacados se tienen que el 45.7 % de los estudiantes de Farmacia tienen mal o muy mal estilo de vida y el 37.2 % de los estudiantes de Farmacia tienen bajo o muy bajo autocuidado; asimismo, ante una mejora del estilo de vida se da un acrecentamiento del autocuidado (coeficiente de correlación de Pearson moderado positivo; 0,528)

Análisis de la legítima defensa de la mujer víctima de violencia familiar en el entorno de lesiones recíprocas Piura – 2020

La presente investigación tiene su génesis en la realidad actual que se manifiesta cuando las mujeres al ser víctimas de una agresión ilegítima en el ámbito familiar, han provocado lesiones a sus agresores, dando como resultado que afronten procesos penales por el delito de lesiones, ello a pesar de haber actuado en defensa de un bien jurídico propio o de un tercero. Es por ello que se tiene como objetivo general valorar los presupuestos jurídicos para aplicar la legítima defensa en el delito de agresiones contra la mujer en el contexto de violencia familiar. El tipo de investigación es mixta con predominio en lo cuantitativo de diseño no experimental, la técnica empleada fue la entrevista y su instrumento la guía de entrevista, aplicada a una muestra de 15 funcionarios que laboran en las Fiscalías Provinciales Corporativas Especializadas en delitos de violencia en contra de la mujer y los integrantes de grupo familiar de Piura. Obteniendo como principal resultado que el 93.33 por ciento de los entrevistados señalan que al valorarse e interpretarse de manera correcta, se podría aplicar la figura de la legitima defensa y esto constituiría una causal de justificación de responsabilidad penal

Construction of a literature map on collaborative virtual white boards

The aim of higher education is to make the student the protagonist of their learning. In this context, the researchers&nbsp;must create appropriate scenarios that enable students to explore and develop critical thinking both independently and cooperatively while making use of information technology.&nbsp; &nbsp;This paper presents a model of pedagogical practice in the subject of Introduction to Research Methodology (IRM) based on the construction of literature maps applying John W. Creswell's research design theory through the use of virtual whiteboards. 120 students from the seventh cycle of the study plan of the School of Architecture of the National University of San Agustín participated. As a result, the model used in this paper enabled students to collect and organize the data necessary to formulate their research and develop critical thinking based on scientific knowledge. In this &nbsp;process, it was possible to reflect on the importance of emphasizing the development of critical and creative thinking skills in order to create literary maps that contribute to the comprehensive education of students. It should be noted that students are obliged to be protagonists in the construction of their knowledge especially in subjects that develop competencies related to scientific research

Plan estratégico de comunicación externa para Repsol

Repsol ha estado envuelto en una crisis de reputación, debido al derrame de petróleo que ocurrió en la refinería La Pampilla. Dicho derrame contaminó gran parte del ecosistema marino del litoral peruano, más de 21 playas fueron declaradas insalubres por lo que pescadores y comerciantes de la zona no pueden realizar sus actividades. En consecuencia, la sociedad y los líderes de opinión levantaron su voz de protesta y la empresa fue duramente criticada. El presente trabajo propone un plan de comunicación externa que busca revertir la percepción negativa hacia Repsol mediante acciones que generen confianza en la empresa. Para lograr ello, las actividades estarán enfocadas en favorecer de manera inmediata y a largo plazo a la comunidad afectada y el cuidado del medio ambiente. La manera de relacionarnos con ellos será cercana y empática, transmitiendo optimismo y seguridad de que los acompañaremos, incluso después del plan de acción vigente. Asimismo, la manera en la que buscaremos llegar al público será a través de piezas gráficas y audiovisuales que evidencien la intención e impacto de nuestras acciones. Estos serán difundidos en redes sociales con publicidad y medios masivos, principalmente a través de las relaciones públicas.Repsol has been involved in a reputational crisis due to the oil spill that occurred at the La Pampilla refinery. This spill contaminated a large part of the marine ecosystem of the Peruvian coast, more than 21 beaches were declared unhealthy, so fishermen and merchants in the area cannot carry out their activities. Consequently, society and opinion leaders raised their voices in protest and the company was harshly criticized. This paper proposes an external communication plan that seeks to reverse the negative perception towards Repsol through actions that generate trust in the company. To achieve this, the activities will be focused on immediately and in the long term favoring the affected community and caring for the environment. The way we relate to them will be close and empathic, transmitting optimism and the certainty that we will accompany them, even after the current action plan. Likewise, the way in which we will seek to reach the public will be through graphic and audiovisual pieces that demonstrate the intention and impact of our actions. These will be disseminated on social networks with advertising and mass media, mainly through public relations

Information, knowledge and innovation: contemporary Brazilian production and the United Nations sustainable development goals

This work aims to analyze recent Brazilian literature on innovation in the search for studies related to the United Nations’ ninth Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure: "build resilient infrastructure, promote sustainable industrialization and foster innovation’. The theoretical framework on innovation is based on classic authors from the field such as Freeman (1995); Lundvall (1985, 1996, 2009); Hippel (2007); Nelson and Winter (2002); Srivas and Sutz (2008). The paper is developed as a literature review with acomparative study to analyze data collected from a Brazilian journal on business and innovation: Revista de Administração e Inovação (RAI). Due to the topicality of the subject, the period between 2014 -2015 was chosen for the sample. During this time, 73 articles were published in five numbers of RAI. Among them, 48 articles were selected according to the established criteria to determine the identification with the theme of SDG9 Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure. These 48 articles were stratified and analyzed. The results indicate the need to stimulate research in the area of innovation in line with SDG9 approach

This article discusses the Spanish translation of Derrida’s conference: “Signature événement contexte”. The analysis aims at taking some distance from the hermeneutic tradition considered as the interpretation and the construction of sense, to adopt the poetics perspective of translation. In the first part, I consider the place of philosophical texts within the horizon of Translation Studies. In the second, I analyze the Spanish translation of Derrida’s conference. To conclude, I point out the difficulties for classifying philosophical texts, especially those by Derrida, and I argue that it is necessary to translate philosophy beyond the conceptual sense of its texts. Translating philosophy implies deferring it, building it, making it.En estas líneas, muestro algunas de las particularidades de la traducción de “Signature événement contexte” al español. El análisis propuesto se aleja de los enfoques hermenéuticos (la interpretación y construcción del sentido de un texto) y se acerca a la propuesta de una poética de la traducción. En una primera parte, a manera de introducción, sitúo el estudio de los textos filosóficos en el horizonte de la traductología.&nbsp; En la segunda, analizo la traducción al español de la conferencia. En las conclusiones, señalo las dificultades de clasificación de los textos filosóficos, en particular, los de Jacques Derrida y muestro la necesidad de traducir filosofía más allá del sentido conceptual de sus textos.
