Constructos y variables del ambiente virtual de aprendizaje, desde la perspectiva del modelo de ecuaciones estructurales

    Get PDF

Biology, Systematics, Phylogenetic Analysis and DNA Character-Based Species Diagnosis of the False Root-Knot Nematode \u3ci\u3eNacobbus aberrans\u3c/i\u3e (Thorne, 1935) Thorne & Allen 1944 (Nemata:Pratylenchidae)

The False Root-Knot nematode Nacobbus aberrans is a plant parasitic nematode that causes yield losses in several crops and plant protection agencies have established regulations to prevent infestations from spreading to new agricultural areas. The taxonomic status of the nematode has been the subject of controversy due to wide degree of variation exhibited by the species. This variability has led to the suggestion that N. aberrans is actually a species complex rather than a single species. In order to test this hypothesis, we compared twelve N. aberrans populations, which include isolates from western Nebraska, two distinct regions of Mexico and the lowlands of Argentina. The specimens were obtained from different hosts and analyzed by physiological, morphological, phylogenetic approaches. The physiological response of the nematode cultured on a common host together with the variation detected in the multivariate morphometric analysis revealed a slight tendency to differentiate groups. This intraspecific variation was confirmed and clarified using phylogenetic inference of nuclear and mitochondrial markers. Analysis of these molecular markers resolved four groups that displayed a well-defined geographic pattern of distribution. The following discrete groupings were recognized: I. Nebraska, II. Mexican North region, III. Mexican Central region, IV. The Argentinean lowlands. The median-joining network analysis of mitochondrial marker was congruent with the four geographic and genetic lineages and separated from each other by a genetic distance of 63-92 mutational steps. AMOVA analysis of the four groups revealed significant differences among the hierarchical levels, with the vast majority of the genetic variation concentrated among the four geographic groups. A character-based barcode analysis allowed identification of “pure” diagnostic characters for each group that contributed further evidence that N. aberrans is a species complex composed of at least four species. The population from Nebraska meets the criteria for consideration as a separate species. We recommend that this isolate be reinstated to N. batatiformis Thorne and Schuster, 1956 as it was originally described. Advisor: Thomas O. Power

ADULT ADHD: An Explorative Inquiry into Assessment, Executive Function, QoL, Comorbid Psychopathy, and Practical Application

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by a pattern of behavior present in multiple settings that can result in performance issues in social, educational and work settings. Although ADHD is prevalent in children, research has proven that the disorder lasts into adulthood. The current body of literature has also suggested that ADHD symptoms are related to specific impairments with executive functions. This paper will introduce ADHD and provide background information on the disorder. It will also examine current literature on assessment, executive function (EF), feasibility of EF measures, quality of life (QoL) as it pertains to adults with ADHD and explore practical ways to use assessment data. Lastly, this paper will take a look at what future research can further investigate in order to provide a more robust body of literature that looks at the basic executive functions associated with ADHD, assessments that may be of utility outside of the lens for a diagnostician, and the implications that available treatment options have on the improvement of deficits and impairments related to ADHD

The Educational Experience of Native Americans at Iowa State: Past, Present, and Looking Into the Future

    Get PDF
Since its establishment in 1858, Iowa State University has played a significant role in the education of young Iowans. However, before the university even existed an education process was already in place by the various Native American tribes who originally called Iowa home. The purpose of this study is to inform the audience of the history of Native American education in the state of Iowa and at Iowa State University, what struggles Native Americans, including both students and staff, face at this university currently, and what we as fellow members of the Iowa State community can do to advocate for Native Americans on campus

The κ - μ shadowed fading model with arbitrary intercluster correlation

    Get PDF
In this paper, we propose a generalization of the well-known κ-μ shadowed fading model. Based on the clustering of multipath waves as the baseline model, the novelty of this new distribution is the addition of an arbitrary correlation for the scattered components within each cluster. It also inherits the random fluctuation of the dominant component, which is assumed to be the same for all clusters. Thus, it unifies a wide variety of models: Rayleigh, Rician, Rician shadowed, Nakagami- m, κ-μ and κ-μ shadowed as well as multivariate Rayleigh, Rician and Rician shadowed. The main statistics of the newly proposed model, i.e. moment generating function, probability density function and cumulative density function, are given in terms of exponentials and powers, and some numerical results are provided in order to analyze the impact of the arbitrary intercluster correlation.Universidad de Málaga. Development of Cal Poly’s Hybrid AC/DC House

The Hybrid House provides an example for what sustainable housing solutions could look like. It also functions as a potential solution to the current rural electrification issues many developing countries face. The use of a DC-DC MISO converter allows for combining multiple power sources into a single DC bus. The Hybrid House integrates the DC bus by employing the use of DC-DC converters for home use. This system may potentially improve the overall system efficiency by avoiding the losses associated with AC-DC converters. The use of the DC bus further leverages the Solar Panel renewable energy solution to become a more formidable power solution. This increased efficiency aligns with the overall goal of the Hybrid House which is to utilize mostly renewable energy in a home while still having the capability of integrating the grid power. Consequently, the Hybrid AC-DC House also offers an alternative solution for future sustainable house with improved reliabilit
