Classical supravalvar aortic stenosis and peripheral pulmonary stenosis
Supravalvar aortic stenosis as well as peripheral pulmonary stenosis are rare forms of congenital
heart disease, which occur, however, relatively frequently in association. This article reports and
discusses the classical findings of SVAS and PPS upon clinical examination and imaging in a sixyear-old

Some new mathematical features in cascade theory
AbstractThe fluctuation problem in cascade theory is viewed from the standpoint of the invariant imbedding method of Bellman et al. [1]. The correlation functions that are used in the description of the electromagnetic cascades are shown to obey a simple system of two component vector differential equations. The advantage of the present method over the conventional approach of writing down Kolmogorov forward equations for these functions lies in that we encounter 2 × 2 matrices of a particular type only. In view of the simplicity of the structure it is possible to generalize the equations to correlation functions of arbitrary order. The reduction in dimension from 2n × 2n matrices to only 2 × 2 matrices which may, at first sight, appear perplexing is due to the fact that each of the 2n elements that appear in the single system of differential equations, corresponding to the two different initial conditions, can be obtained by considering 2n disjoint systems of two component vector equations. The imbedding technique is also used to arrive at the independent differential equations satisfied by sequent product densities that are encountered in more comprehensive description of electromagnetic cascades
Magnetic Phases of Electron-Doped Manganites
We study the anisotropic magnetic structures exhibited by electron-doped
manganites using a model which incorporates the double-exchange between orbital
ly degenerate electrons and the super-exchange between
electrons with realistic values of the Hund's coupling(), the
super-exchange coupling(), and the bandwidth(). We look at the
relative stabilities of the G, C and A type antiferromagnetic ph ases. In
particular we find that the G-phase is stable for low electron doping as seen
in experiments. We find good agreement with the experimentally observed
magnetic phase diagrams of electron-doped manganites
() such as NdSrMnO, PrSrMnO,
and SmCaMnO. We can also explain the experimentally
observed orbital structures of the C a nd A phases.
We also extend our calculation for electron-doped bilayer manganites of the
form RAMnO and predict that the C-phase will be

Model for Glass Transition in a Binary fluid from a Mode Coupling approach
We consider the Mode Coupling Theory (MCT) of Glass transition for a Binary
fluid. The Equations of Nonlinear Fluctuating Hydrodynamics are obtained with a
proper choice of the slow variables corresponding to the conservation laws. The
resulting model equations are solved in the long time limit to locate the
dynamic transition. The transition point from our model is considerably higher
than predicted in existing MCT models for binary systems. This is in agreement
with what is seen in Computer Simulation of binary fluids. fluids.Comment: 9 Pages, 3 Figure

Magnetic, orbital and charge ordering in the electron-doped manganites
The three dimensional perovskite manganites in the range of hole-doping are studied in detail using a double exchange model with degenerate
orbitals including intra- and inter-orbital correlations and near-neighbour
Coulomb repulsion. We show that such a model captures the observed phase
diagram and orbital-ordering in the intermediate to large band-width regime. It
is argued that the Jahn-Teller effect, considered to be crucial for the region
, does not play a major role in this region, particularly for systems
with moderate to large band-width. The anisotropic hopping across the
degenerate orbitals are crucial in understanding the ground state phases
of this region, an observation emphasized earlier by Brink and Khomskii. Based
on calculations using a realistic limit of finite Hund's coupling, we show that
the inclusion of interactions stabilizes th e C-phase, the antiferromagnetic
metallic A-phase moves closer to while th e ferromagnetic phase shrinks
in agreement with recent observations. The charge ordering close to and
the effect of reduction of band-width are also outlined. The effect of disorder
and the possibility of inhomogeneous mixture of competing states have been

Genome-Wide Association Study for Type 2 Diabetes in Indians Identifies a New Susceptibility Locus at 2q21
Indians undergoing socioeconomic and lifestyle transitions will
be maximally affected by epidemic of type 2 diabetes (T2D). We
conducted a two-stage genome-wide association study of T2D in
12,535 Indians, a less explored but high-risk group. We identified
a new type 2 diabetes–associated locus at 2q21, with the lead
signal being rs6723108 (odds ratio 1.31; P = 3.32 3 1029
). Imputation
analysis refined the signal to rs998451 (odds ratio 1.56;
P = 6.3 3 10212) within TMEM163 that encodes a probable vesicular
transporter in nerve terminals. TMEM163 variants also
showed association with decreased fasting plasma insulin and
homeostatic model assessment of insulin resistance, indicating
a plausible effect through impaired insulin secretion. The 2q21
region also harbors RAB3GAP1 and ACMSD; those are involved
in neurologic disorders. Forty-nine of 56 previously reported signals
showed consistency in direction with similar effect sizes in
Indians and previous studies, and 25 of them were also associated
(P , 0.05). Known loci and the newly identified 2q21 locus altogether
explained 7.65% variance in the risk of T2D in Indians. Our
study suggests that common susceptibility variants for T2D are
largely the same across populations, but also reveals a population-specific
locus and provides further insights into genetic architecture
and etiology of T2D
