    Performance of Some Soybean Genotypes (Glycine max L.) to Germination and Seedling Characters as Affected by Planting Dates and Phosphorus Fertilization

    To investigate the performance of some sunflower genotypes to phosphorus fertilizer rates and planting dates to germination characters and seedling parameters. A laboratory experiment accompanied in seed lab during April and May 2017.The experiments included six sowing dates at 1th May, 15th May and 31th May, three soybean cultivars namely Crawford, Giza 22 and Giza 111 and three rates of phosphorus fertilizer viz. 0, 37.2 and 74.4 kg P2O5/ha.The tallest shoot, great percentages of germination, the lowermostpercentagesof dead seedand the highestcoefficient of velocitypercentage from sown on mid-May. In addition, the lowest days of germination time was produced from sown on first May. Whereas, the tallest root, the highest weight of fresh shoot and root as well as shoot dry weight from sown on end-May.The results clearly revealed that the highest percentage of germination, soot length and root length obtained from sown cv. Giza 111. The uppermostenergy of germination, shoot and root dry weight were recorded from sown Giza 22 cultivar. In addition, sown Crawford cultivar produced the highestdead seedpercentage and the lowest mean germination time.The results indicated that the lowest mean germination time and maximum percentage of coefficient of velocity, tallest shoot and root, weight of fresh shoot, shoot and dry root were obtained fromfertilizationof phosphate at the rate of31 kgP2O5/fed. It summarized that seed Giza 111 cultivar recorded the best in seed viability when sown on first May and fertilized with phosphorus fertilizer at the rate of 74.4 kg P2O5/ha

    Behaviors of Some Soybean Cultivars (Glycine max L.) Yield to Planting Dates and Different Phosphorus Fertilizer Rates

    Soybean production components such as planting date, cultivars and phosphorus fertilizer rates affected soybean yield. Two field experiments conducted in extensive field at El-Gahrbia district, Egypt during 2015 and 2016 seasons. The goal of this research was aimed to investigate the influence of sowing date at 1th May, 15th May and 31th May and three phosphorus fertilization rates, i.e. 0, 37.2 and 74.4 kg P2O5/ha on the performance of three soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merrl) cultivars i.e. Crawford, Giza 22 and Giza 111 on growth, yield and seed quality. The tallest plants, the thick stem, highest branches number/plant, pods number/plant, seed number/pod, weight of 1000 seed and seed yield/ha were recorded from sown early on first May in the both seasons. The tallest plants, the thick stems and highest number of branches/plant were recorded from sown Crawford cultivar. Whereas maximum number of pods/plant and number of seed/pod were found from sown Giza 111 cultivar in the both seasons. Increasing phosphorous fertilizer rates significantly increased all studied cultivars of seed yield and yield components. Tallest plant, the thick stem, the highest branches number/plant, pods number/plant, seed number/pod, weight of1000 seed and seed yield/ha were produced from phosphorous fertilizer at a rate of 74.4 kg P2O5/ha in the first and second seasons, respectively

    Maternal and neonatal complications of fetal macrosomia: cohort study

    Objective: To estimate risks of maternal and neonatal complications in pregnancies with macrosomia. Method: This was a retrospective cohort study undertaken at a large maternity unit in United Kingdom between January 2009-December 2016. We compared the incidence of complications in pregnancies with macrosomia, defined by birthweight (BW)>4,000 g and severe macrosomia with BW>4,500 g, to those in pregnancies with normal BW 2,500-4,000 g. Regression analysis was undertaken to determine odds ratios (OR) [95% confidence interval (CI)] for pregnancy complications in macrosomic compared to normal BW group. Results: The study population of 35,548 pregnancies included 4,522 (12.7%) with macrosomia, 643 (1.8%) with severe macrosomia and 31,026 (87.3%) with normal BW. In macrosomia group, adjusted OR was 3.07 (95%CI:1.64,2.01) for cesarean section for failure to progress, 2.40 (95%CI:1.95,2.96) for post-partum haemorrhage, 2.29 (95%CI:1.86,2.82) for sphincter injury, 10.37 (95%CI:8.57,12.55) for shoulder dystocia, 28.48 (95%CI:8.94,90.67) for brachial plexus injury, 32.33 (95%CI:3.76,278.15) for birth fractures and 4.40 (95%CI:2.20,8.82) for hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy. The respective values for severe macrosomia were 4.32 (95%CI:3.05,6.13), 2.93 (95%CI:1.93,4.44), 3.12 (95%CI:1.92,5.08), 28.74 (95%CI:20.75,39.79), 73.92 (95%CI:15.05,363.16), 87.17 (95%CI:7.72,984.96) and 13.77 (95%CI: 5.16,36.75). Conclusion: Macrosomia is associated with serious adverse perinatal outcomes. This study provides accurate estimates of risks to aid in pregnancy management

    Antifungal synergic activity of essential olive oil and alcoholic turmeric extracts against isolates from the dried grapes raisins

    Fungi are responsible for a wide variety of harm to humans, including food spoilage and infections. Using chemicals to restrict fungal development or infections has negative repercussions, such as human health dangers from the chemical applications and rising antifungal-drug resistance, so this study aimed to use medicinal plants and their extracts as an alternative method to restrict fungal growth. Ten isolates of the genus Aspergillus were identified from the fruits of dried grapes (raisins) of all kinds (Iraqi black raisins, Iranian yellow raisins, and brown raisins) at the species level using three – differential media: Czapek Yeast Extract Agar( CYA), Malt Extract Agar( MEA), and 25% Glycerol nitrate agar (G25N) incubated in 5, 25 and 37 ºC. Aspergillus niger was the most common isolated species. The number of A. niger isolates reached seven from all types of dried grapes, while A. flavus recorded three isolates from black raisins and brown raisins. Aspergillus Flavus Parasiticus Agar (AFPA) was used to detect the ability of A. flavus isolates to produce aflatoxin at 25-30 ºC for one week. Alcoholic extract of turmeric showed a significant inhibitory effect on the colony diameter of both A. flavus and A. niger isolated from the fruit of Iraqi black raisins with an inhibition rate of 86.6% and 68.8 %, respectively, at 4 mg/ ml concentration. The mixture of turmeric and essential olive oil gave a distinct inhibitory effect, reaching a 100% inhibition rate from the lowest to highest concentration for both A. niger and A. flavus

    Sistem monitoring penggunaan listrik baik secara prabayar maupun pascabayar masih memiliki beberapa masalah, salah satu permasalahan yang terjadi adalah masih kurangnya pengawasan untuk mengetahui seberapa besar penggunaan listrik di suatu rumah atau suatu daerah. Untuk mengatasi permasalahan tersebut, diperlukan sebuah perangkat yang mampu mengukur parameter-parameter pada listrik arus AC (Alternating Current) satu fasa, dan menampilkannya hasilnya dalam suatu sistem informasi, sehingga penggunaan daya listrik dari setiap rumah atau daerah dapat diketahui jumlahnya.Dengan menggunakan papan mikrokontroler Arduino Uno sebagai pengolah datanya, parameter yang dapat diukur oleh perangkat terdiri dari arus, tegangan dan daya, data pengukuran tersebut kemudian dikirim melalui jaringan wireless ke sebuah komputer server, komputer server berfungsi sebagai penyimpanan data hasil monitoring dan mengolah data tersebut menjadi sebuah informasi yang ditampilkan dalam sebuah website.Berdasarkan hasil pengujian pada pengukuran arus didapatkan nilai kesalahan rata-rata sebesar 3,28%, kesalahan rata-rata pengukuran tegangan sebesar 0,39%, pada pengukuran nilai daya didapatkan nilai kesalahan rata-rata sebesar 8,82%. Sedangkan pada proses pengiriman data diperoleh nilai presentase error sebesar 0.1%, dan akurasi data mencapai 100%

    COVID-19 associated pulmonary aspergillosis in patients on extracorporeal membrane oxygenation treatment-a retrospective study

    BACKGROUND: The incidence and outcome of pulmonary aspergillosis in coronavirus disease (COVID-19) patients on extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) are unknown and have not been fully addressed. We investigated the incidence, risk factors and outcome of pulmonary aspergillosis in COVID-19 ECMO patients. In addition, the diagnostic utility of bronchoalveolar lavage fluid and CT scans in this setting were assessed. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective study on incidence and outcome of pulmonary aspergillosis in COVID-19 ECMO patients by reviewing clinical, radiological, and mycological evidence. These patients were admitted to a tertiary cardiothoracic centre during the early COVID-19 surge between March 2020 and January 2021. Results and measurements: The study included 88 predominantly male COVID-19 ECMO patients with a median age and a BMI of 48 years and 32 kg/m2, respectively. Pulmonary aspergillosis incidence was 10% and was associated with very high mortality. Patients with an Aspergillus infection were almost eight times more likely to die compared with those without infection in multivariate analysis (OR 7.81, 95% CI: 1.20-50.68). BALF GM correlated well with culture results, with a Kappa value of 0.8 (95% CI: 0.6, 1.0). However, serum galactomannan (GM) and serum (1-3)-β-D-glucan (BDG) lacked sensitivity. Thoracic computed tomography (CT) diagnostic utility was also inconclusive, showing nonspecific ground glass opacities in almost all patients. CONCLUSIONS: In COVID-19 ECMO patients, pulmonary aspergillosis incidence was 10% and associated with very high mortality. Our results support the role of BALF in the diagnosis of pulmonary aspergillosis in COVID-19 ECMO patients. However, the diagnostic utility of BDG, serum GM, and CT scans is unclear

    Cellular Transplantation-Based Therapeutic Strategies for Spinal Cord Injuries: Preclinical and Clinical Updates

    Spinal cord injury (SCI) is a distressing neurological condition that causes loss of neural tissue, with subsequent damages to neural circuitry, and loss of sensorimotor function. The SCIs have an estimated incidence rate of ~80 cases per million populations. Till date, no ratified effective therapeutic strategy for SCIs exist; however, recent advancements in regenerative medicines to protect and regenerate damaged/lost neural tissues following SCIs have shown promising results in preclinical and clinical trials. Moreover, there is a greater need to fully understand underlying mechanisms following cellular transplantation that can be achieved through proper differentiation of desired cell type, and their in-vivo tracking of migration, proliferation and integration into the host system. Furthermore, techniques that can prevent teratomas formation following cellular transplantation have been reported. In addition to the ongoing comprehensive neuroregenerative and neuroprotective therapeutic strategies for SCIs, novel technologies are emerging including neuroscience-based computational and robotic rehabilitational therapies. These improved strategies in combination with cell-based therapeutic approaches are opening new avenues for future research to completely cure SCIs. Herein, we intended to review pathophysiological mechanisms following SCI, preclinical and clinical updates of cellular transplantation, the extent of success from these transplantations, associated controversies and other emerging technologies

    Toward fabrication of devices based on graphene/oxide multilayers

    Owing to its high electrical conductivity, low density, and flexibility, graphene has great potential for use as a building block in a wide range of applications from nanoelectronics to biosensing and high-frequency devices. For many device applications, it is required to deposit dielectric materials on graphene at high temperatures and in ambient oxygen. This has been proven to be highly challenging because these conditions cause significant degradation in graphene. In this work, we investigate the degradation of graphene at elevated temperatures in an oxygen atmosphere and possible protection mechanisms to enable the growth of oxide thin films on graphene at higher temperatures. We show that coating graphene with self-assembled monolayers of hexamethyldisilazane (HMDS) prior to a high-temperature deposition can significantly reduce the damage induced. Furthermore, a graphene sample treated with HMDS displayed a weaker doping effect due to weak interaction with oxygen species than bare graphene, and a much slower rate of electrical resistance degradation was exhibited during annealing. Thus, it is a promising approach that could enable the deposition of metal oxide materials on graphene at high temperatures without significant degradation in graphene quality, which is critical for a wide range of applications

    Synthesis of quinone-based heterocycles of broad-spectrum anticancer activity

    A synthesis of benzo[e][1,2,4]triazines and 1,2,4-triazolospiro[4,5]deca-2,6,9-trien-8-ones has been developed from reactions of amidrazones with 2-chloro-1,4-benzoquinone in EtOAc containing 0.5 mL of piperidine. This highly regioselective and one-pot process provided rapid access to 1,2,4-triazolospiro[4,5]deca-2,6,9-trien-8-ones (60%–70%) and benzo[e][1,2,4]triazines (11%–18%). On reacting amidrazones with 5-hydroxy-1,4-naphthoquinone in an EtOAc/piperidine mixture, the reaction proceeded to give 5-hydroxy-2-(piperidin-1-yl)naphthalene-1,4-dione. The structures of the isolated products were proved by infrared, NMR (2D-NMR), mass spectra, and elemental analyses in addition to X-ray structure analysis. The reaction mechanisms are discussed. The anticancer screening of selected compounds showed broad-spectrum anticancer activity against most melanoma cancer cell lines, ovarian cancer OVCAR-3, central nervous system cancer SF-295 and U251, non-small cell lung cancer NCI-H23, renal cancer SN12C, and colon cancer HCT-15 and HCT-116. The selected compounds exhibited moderate to weak anticancer activity to other cell lines
